Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto 2001- 2010 (National Historic Site) addition, renovation, restoration (prime: kpmb) • see: http://www.kpmb.com/index.asp?navid=30&fid1=&fid2=13&fid3=&minyearx=&maxyearx= • project honoured by RAIC- Governer General’s, RAIC- Urban Design, OAA, Heritage Toronto, Chicago Athenaeum, Canadian Interiors, Canadian Architect, and others; • helped prepare and directed implementation of Conservation Plan (in Heritage Easement Agreement); • worked closely with skilled trades, provided supplementary details, specifications, coordination, and reviewed implementation of masonry repairs/repointing, new insulated slate roof, lead-coated copper gutters/flashing, repair of dormer window woodwork and iron finials, and restoration/reconstruction of east bay and spire of former McMaster Hall (c.1881), currently named ‘Ihnatowycz’; • proposed using capacity of existing masonry, timber, passive systems; e.g.: localized stitching of existing masonry avoided a costly/invasive steel structure to support new atrium roof beams; • worked to identify, value, repair, & restore a lively tapestry of historic masonry patterns & pointing. Guelph Civic Administration Complex & POA Courts (National Historic Site)2005-2010 adaptive re-use, renovation, addition (prime: MTA in assoc. with GBCA)• identified evidence of original historic pointing and worked with the Owner, trades, and authorities to implement/restore local traditional masonry pointing on newly exposed exterior walls of the former City Hall, Winter Fair Building, Fire Hall, and Gate House; the north wall of the Gate House provides the most accurate sample of the ‘raised, ruled, white lime pointing’, the locally significant durable masonry finish that was removed from the Former City Hall and Annex during 1980’s ‘restoration’ work. • provided detailed help to Moriyama & Teshima and the Owner to stabilize, repair, upgrade, and restore historic masonry structures, wood windows, and traditional building envelopes that comprise key parts of the New Civic Administration Building opened in 2009.
