1 CULTIVATED AGARWOOD INTRODUCTION TO FEI (FUNGAL ENDOPHYTE INDUCER) Endophytic fungi are micro-fungal endosymbionts that live within plant tissues over their entire life. Endophytic fungi may in some ways offer significant benefits to their host plant (Aquilaria tree) by improving and promoting plant growth, helping to reduce disease symptoms caused by pathogens or environmental stress, host plants use endophytic fungi in defense. While, as known, Agarwood is pathological product formed as defense symptom against harmful infection. In other words, the Aquilaria tree produces agarwood as a valuable self-defense material to suppress damages and infections. So, to stimulate the formation of Agarwood we can inoculate Aquilaria tree with endophytic fungi.
