Dear Parents/Guardians,
The year has flown by and it’s hard to believe this is our last newsletter of the year!
On behalf of the staff, I’d like to thank the PTA volunteers who treated us to a
wonderful Staff Appreciation week at NRMS The events were coordinated by
Maria Rowlette and Kathy Lineweaver and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the
generosity of the families. Additionally, I’d like to give a special thank you to Lynn
Dorman for doing an amazing job of leading the Middle School PTA over the past
two years. Her heart has always been focused in the direction of collaborating for the
benefit of the student environment and it’s been a pleasure to have been her partner
during my time as principal.
Spring benchmark assessments are taking place by team in the areas of reading and
math to evaluate student growth this year. With the addition of the PARCC and New
Generation assessments next year, we will continue to utilize benchmark assessments
as a diagnostic tool, but in the fall and winter periods only. As always, if you would
like more information about your student’s progress, please don’t hesitate to reach
out to his/her teacher for clarification.
This month our teachers participated in a full day of professional development on
May 6th that focused on two specific areas - safety and security and classroom
technology implementation. Teachers signed up for technology sessions facilitated
by fellow colleagues and administrators and were able to fine-tune skills to
incorporate more 21st century skills into the classroom experience for students.
Collaboration time for professional educators is a critical component to moving
student achievement forward. We are appreciative of opportunities like this to
coordinate curriculum with one another.
Our NRMS students have been shining in many different ways that I’d like to
recognize:

North Royalton Middle School PTA Meeting Minutes May 20, 2014
Call to Order: Lynn Dorman, President 9:40 a.m.
Pledge and Welcome Lynn thanks the teachers and staff for providing breakfast for us.
SECRETARY’S REPORT – Mary Ellen Watrobski – April minutes were posted online, no changes or additions.
CORRESPONDING SECRETARY’S REPORT – Jen Porter – several notes to be passed around.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Sandy Mraz - Balance on hand: $25,829.57
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mrs. Vojta – Thank you to everyone, especially Kathy Lineweaver & Maria Rowlett for the Staff Appreciation week. Everything was
great. The candy bar was very popular. The staff loved the signs from the students.
We just returned from Washington, D.C. and it was a great trip. The students were great; we received compliments on
their behavior. We laid a wreath at Arlington. Several of the staff who have gone on the trip many times have said that
this was one of the best trips ever. We were able to have a Holocaust survivor speak to the 8th graders prior to the trip.
I’m so pleased with all of the opportunities we were able to offer the students.
We have two 5th grade teams at the CVEEC this week. We had the Bear and Cub Awards ceremony for the 7
th graders last
night, which was nice. It’s for the students who earn the award for three quarters in a row.
We finished OAA testing and next year we start the new PARCC assessments. Next year’s assessments will be mid Feb –
mid March. We have a building leadership team that helps work on setting up the testing process. Hopefully the new
testing will allow the rest of the school to maintain the normal schedule, because we’re not able to have all students
testing on computers at the same time.
The 8th grade promotion ceremony will be June 5
th at 6:30 p.m. I talked to Lynn and we’d like to have an ice cream social
on that day for the students, and I’ve asked PTA for some assistance with that. We also have Field Days, the Track awards
are today, and we have 5th and 6th grade Bear and Cub Awards ceremonies coming up.
Thank you for all of your help and support of me as Principal. I’m excited for my new position and look forward to still
working with parent and students.
Jeff Cicerchi will be the new Principal of NRMS; he is very passionate about middle learning.
Mr. Cicerchi: People are amazed by the help we get from our PTA, I’m looking forward to working with all of you next
year. I went to BW for middle level certification. I truly am middle level through & through. I am involved with the
Ohio Middle Level Association.
TEACHERS REPORT – Mrs. Haberkorn – Not much of a report, but I started out as a PTA rep my first year at NRMS
and today is my last meeting. Thank you for who you are and how much you help the school and the students succeed.

NEW BUSINESS: Mrs. Vojta requested a donation for the Eighth grade ice cream social, their social had to be cancelled.
The Shake Shoppe will provide ice cream in individual portions. May I have a motion to spend $350 from the Socials
fund on ice cream? Lori Krzywicki made a motion, Tawny Zajc seconded, there was not further discussion, the motion
carried.
Classroom Supplements, which is our Goals needs to be voted on. We’ve spent $179.99 on Beats for the Jump-a-Thon,
and made a $100 donation to Joseph Krzywicki for his Nature Center project for Eagle Scout. Lynn asked if we can move
$279.99 from postage to bring Curriculum Supplements to $8,500. Jodi Heffke made a motion to move $279.99 from
Postage fund to Curriculum Supplements fund, Stephanie Kostyack seconded the motion, and there was no further
discussion, the motion carried. We have $1000 to be used for technology for a total of $9,500 to be donated for Classroom
Supplements. The school wishes to replace Epsom boards with new Smartboards, as the old Epsom boards are breaking
and cannot be shared. Mr. Nickel is working on getting a quote, but Lynn asks if we can make a motion to spend up to
$9,500 on Smartboards. Sue Werner made a motion to spend up to $9,500 on Smartboards, Kathy Lineweaver seconded
