    Religiousknowledg

e Religious knowledge meansknowledge which has direct links withreligious beliefs, rituals, etiquette andconducts.

Islam enjoins acquiring bothknowledge. However Islam regardsreligious knowledge more important

because it is the knowledge thatdirectly leads man to know hisCreator and how to worship Himcorrectly.

Provide guidance and purification ofthe soul.

Therefore, it is obligatory for every

Muslim to seek and acquireknowledge of his religion.

    Worldlyknowledg

e Worldly knowledge means the aspect ofknowledge which acquaint man with thisuniverse and with the skills, expertise andprofessionalism in relation to his wordly living.

As for worldly knowledge, acquiring any aspectof it is not obligatory upon every Muslim onindividual basis like religious knowledge. But,it is obligatory on all Muslim on a collectivebasis.

It is a communal obligatory, every particularMuslim community must make sure that asection of it necessarily acquires each andevery aspect of it.

This necessity according to Al-Ghazali becomeseven more serious if such a discipline hascertain indispensable importance and benefitto societal existence.

    Examples: Medicine, Mathematics,Engineering.

Al-Qaradawi said, ..it is obligatory uponMuslim community to get some of its citizen tospecialize in all various fields of humanendeavours (worldly knowledge)psychology, education, economics etc.

Al-Ghazalis viewKnowledge is broadly classified in Islam into two categories:->

    Praiseworthy knowledge

=>Any type of knowledge that leads and guides toAllah, righteousness and service to humanity.

=>Knowledge that is beneficial to self and other

    Blameworthy knowledge

=> Any form of knowledge that is opposed to therevelation, misguides and dissuades from the path

of Allah, does not benefit humanity in anyway

=>Knowledge that is harmful to self and others e.g.how to steal, black magic and how to produce drug.

There is knowledge which is inherently and intrinsically beneficial

and profitable, and there is also the type which is harmful and

    blameworthy
