ECOLE DES MINES DE PARISCenter for Energy and Processes (CEP)The site at Sophia Antipolis works on renewableenergy, plasma conversion procedures, remote sensors, and modeling. The Institute has actually developed researchand graduate school programs, in liaison withindustry leaders. Many innovative developmentsin the field of energy have occurred by perfectingappropriate materials, often nanostructures, aswell as related production processes. The fuelcells or the superinsulation of tomorrow will bethe result of cutting-edge research in the energysector, materials, and process engineering.• Contact: Didier MAYER

Center for Material Forming (CEMEF)UMR7635 (ENSM PARIS - CNRS)Eight research groups are developing differentapproaches to material forming: continuummechanics, material microstructure, and surfacescience. They are known and recognizedaround the world for their work on numericalsimulations. In material forming, simulationsdepend on developments and controls in themost advanced numerical methods. Theresearch group has developed software platforms, including FORGES 3, which may beused by ITER.• Contact: Alain LEFLOC, Technical Director, or

The international project ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is bringing togetherthe world’s best researchers in plasma physics. The ITER project depends on upstream computer science solutions. Mathematicians, computer scientists, and physicists are working together on a joint Plasma project that has grown from different STIC projectsat the CEA in Cadarache. The goal is to develop the most pertinent and realistic models for plasma behavior inside tokamaks, where the plasma will be exposed to extremely high temperatures.
