New for 2015-16

PLTW Pre-Engineering and PLTW Biomedical courses can count for academic credit on the ACE College Prep/Work Ready curriculum and can count for OKPromise. • March 26, 2015 approved by State BOE• June 8, 2015 approved by OSRHE

Guidelines:

• Tech Centers must submit these courses to their partner schools’ BOE for approval to count these courses as academic credit for graduation purposes.

• Instructors must be certified in the designated subject in order to count for math or science.

• Schools have been notified which teachers are certified to offer academic credit

Page 6: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Math

• PLTW Digital Electronics is the only course counting for math credit.

• In order for student to receive math credit, this course must be taught by a highly qualified, Advanced/Secondary Math (5550) certified teacher.

• Additional qualified certifications include ALL of these: Math Analysis (5503); Trigonometry (5517); Calculus (5505); and Statistics (5515)

Page 7: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Science• PLTW Biotechnical Engineering and PLTW Aerospace

Engineering can count for science credit if the teacher is highly qualified and certified in Physics (6015) or Chemistry (6006)

Page 8: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Science• PLTW Principles of BioMedical Science, PLTW

Human Body Systems, PLTW Biomedical Innovations, PLTW Medical Interventions courses can count for science credit if the teacher is highly qualified and certified in Biology (6003), Biological Sciences (6050) or Chemistry (6006)

Page 9: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Computer Education

• PLTW Computer Integrated Manufacturing can count as a computer technology credit and for OKPromise if taught by a certified teacher.

• PLTW Principals of Engineering and PLTW Introduction to Engineering Design currently count as a computer technology credit for OKPromise if taught by a certified teacher.

Page 10: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Computer Education

• PLTW Computer Science and Software Engineering counts as a computer technology credit if taught by a teacher certified in Advanced/Secondary Math (5550), Physics (6015), Computer Science, Intermediate Mathematics (5552), or Business Education (7513) with AP Computer Science teaching experience

Page 11: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Electives• PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture and PLTW

Engineering by Design and Development count as an elective credit and must be taught by a teacher certified in Advanced/Secondary Math (5550), Physics (6015), Chemistry (6006) or Trade & Industrial Education (7509)

Page 12: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

Electives• Survey of Biotechnology, Biotechnology I,

Biotechnology II, Advanced Biotechnology I, Advanced Biotechnology II and Biotechnology Capstone count as a science on the ACE CORE curriculum only; count as an elective on the ACE CollegePrep/WorkReady curriculum. Teachers must be certified in Biology (6003), Biological Sciences (6050), or Chemistry (6006)

Use Correct OCAS Codes

• It is very important that the technology centers send their partner schools the correct OCAS code when listing courses receiving academic credit. (Just as we have been doing for Human Anatomy/Physiology in Health and for courses already on the OKPromise list of approved courses.)

Use Correct OCAS Codes• New Instructional Framework is set to roll out in

2016-17• Program codes will be identified with OCAS

numbers ( SOC codes, CIP codes, etc.)• Certifications will be connected• Statewide student information system will use

OCAS codes to pull information• Please make sure your programs have the correct

OCAS codes when grades are sent to partner schools

Page 16: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

NCAA• Partner schools will need to submit to NCAA course

syllabi’s for the courses approved by the local BOEs that meet the requirements for math or science credit. Technology Centers will need to work with their partner schools to supply the information needed by NCAA. Technology Centers DO NOT submit information to NCAA.

Updated Documents

• Handouts– Updated OKPromise list– Updated Critical Information for CTE Academic

Credits/Transcripting– OCAS Subject Code 2015-16 list

• Online– Oklahoma CTE Guidelines for Academics– ACE Alternative Test List– ACE Test Exemption List

New in Assessments• New rubric for assessments beginning 2015-16• No longer 1s through 7s• Different assessments meet different requirements in

rubric• Then those assessments are pulled according to the

guidelines of the request (A-F, transcripts, etc.)

Page 20: CTE Academic Credit and Using OCAS Codes Tommi Leach and Kelly Arrington, ODCTE.

New with WorkKeys

Students who are designated ELL and have accommodations for EOI testing can take the Spanish version of WorkKeys in Applied Math and use that score as an alternative test score in Algebra I, Algebra II and Geometry.

*The Spanish version of Applied Math will NOT count toward a CRC certificate.

New with the A-F Report Card

• The A-F School Report Card was addressed in House Bill 1823 in 2015. It directs the State Board of Education to study the A-F Report Card system and make recommendations to the Legislature on how it can be improved.
