Objective
1. To let us experience how an environment of a construction site going to be like and
learn to face hot condition of the weather when we start working.
2. To let us know the importance of taking care of our safety at site, to follow all safety
precaution that is been mentioned so that accident or injury happen during the
building construction can be avoided. The top priority before going in a site is safety
helmet must be wore at all time during the site visit.
3. To increase our knowledge about construction that we didnt learn in class
4. To let us identify various types of building materials that is used in construction like
concrete, timber, metal and etc. Not only had that, knowing the technology and the
method used to build the building and to talk to the superior to know more about the
construction of the building.
5. To collect more information for this project and to observe the usage of the
machinery plant at the construction site like the bar bending machine can be seen at
the site
6. To be able to identify the items measurable for sub-structure and superstructure
works.

CONTENT/TECHNICAL OBSERVATION
On the 29thNovember 2013, we had a site visit to a construction site near the UEM
Sunrise Berhad, Symphony Hills Clubhouse, Persiaran Simfoni Cyber9, 6300 Cyberjaya,
Selangor. The Senior Project Manager and engineer that welcomed us is call Mr Umar
Sabtu and Mr Zul Repectively. At 9.30a.m., we have been brought to the office first to give a
slight briefing and information about the site before we entered. The site that we are visiting
is constructing a 46 unit Terrace house. At 10 a.m., we have been brought into the site and
ongoing our tour around the site.
First, Mr Umar and Mr Zul brought us to a place to show us the foundation that is
used in these Terrace house. The foundation that are used for these Terrace house is quite
unique because is a combination of pad footing and raft foundation. Based on Mr Umar, the
purpose of doing that is because the load cant take it if raft foundation is been fixed only
because it the load will be too concentrated on a spot only. So with a combination pad
footing the load will be separated evenly and it will make the building firm and stable.
After that, we have been brought to the bar bending yard where all the cutting and
bending of bars happen at that area. There are many different types of bars and different
diameter of it too. Not only that, we saw few men bending bars and cutting bars using a bar
bending and bar cutting machine which is not a easy job to do because the bars are thick
and a lot of strength is needed to do it.
After that, we have been brought to a 1stfloor area that will be building a beautiful
elevated garden there which is similar with the one at Desa Park City that is mentioned by
Mr Umar. Lastly, after the tour around the site is done, we are been given chances to ask Mr
Umar and Mr Zul more information about the site project so that we can compile all the
information to put into our site report.

LEARNING OUTCOMES/CONCLUSION
After the site visit, I had gain a lot of knowledge and experiences from the real
working environment on the site. Working at the contruction site is not an essay job as the
weather is usually hot. I was very tired and exhausted after the tour around the site visit is
done but It was worth it. As a quantity surveyor, I have to get suit of this hot environment
working place because this is what I am going to face in the future.
Not only that, I have also gain more knowledge about construction that I didntlearn it
in class. Through this site visit, I am able to recognise various types of building materials
used at the construction site. But the most important thing that I learn throughout the site
visit is safety always come first. Ive learn to always wear my safety helmet to prevent
injuries happen. It is also important to follow the safety guidelines that is mentioned by the
supervisor.
Besides that, I have also gain a better understanding and clearer picture on the
basic construction process like we saw how bar-bending works and production of spacer
blocks are carried out, how orderly the reinforcement bars are stacked and kept at site. I also
have a better understanding on the sequence of work. Not only that, I am also able to
communicate with the construction team member during the site visit.
Lastly. I am honor to have this opportunity to go to the site to experience things that I
cant learn in class. The most important thing is that, this visit had enhanced my knowledge
about construction and with that I will understand more and clearer on how to do taking off.
Will hope that we can have the chance to visit more site.
