What is the YMCA Childrenrsquos Safety Village
The YMCA Childrenrsquos Safety Village is a child-sized village located in the Thames
Valley District within the Fanshawe Conservation Area
The outdoor portion of the village features 26 small buildings surrounded with
streets operational traffic signals authentic traffic signs an operational railway
crossing and a life size school bus In the main building there are two classroomsone for fire safety lessons and the other for police safety lessons There is a full-
sized functional kitchen used for safety programming and Sparky the Fire Dogrsquos
very own apartment equipped with a smoke machine and escape window
used for real life lessons
The YMCA Childrenrsquos Safety Village is operated by the YMCA under
contract with the Childrenrsquos Safety Village Board of Directors The YMCA
Childrenrsquos Safety Village programming is supported by London PoliceService London Fire Department the London District Catholic School
Board and Thames Valley District School Board
What does the YMCA Childrenrsquos Safety Village Do
Through hands on safety lessons the Childrenrsquos Safety Village helps
reduce injuries by teaching children from kindergarten to grade 4 about
individual responsibility and awareness while travelling in cars ridingbikes walking down the street being in the kitchen and encountering
a fire in the home The lessons are taught by educators from the police
and fire departments and link directly to the Healthy Living Strand
under Personal Safety and Injury Prevention Expectations

available for school bookings Monday ndash Friday throughout the school year We
offer two programs daily one in the morning and one in the afternoon There is
a maximum occupancy of 60students per visit and teachervolunteer chaperons
are required to accompany students at a 110 ratio Availability is limited and
programs fill To ensure availability for your class be sure to book early
Arranging Your Booking bull Call us at 519-455-5437 (have your total number of students
and two possible booking dates ready)
bull Email us at infosafetyvillageca (include your class grade number
of students amp two possible booking dates)
bull Upon reservation of booking teachers will receive a booking
agreement form which must be signed amp returned within two
business days to firm up booking
bull Booking conrmations will be sent upon receipt of signed agreement
Booking Fee
As of September 2013 the standard booking fee for all Safety Village bookings
is $100class (maximum of 60students) Admittance to the conservation area
is free Payment of booking fee is due within 15days from date of reservation
For smaller groups andor fundraised visits special day of visit payment can be
arranged by contacting our administrator directly The YMCA of Western Ontariois a multi-service charity that provides opportunities for personal growth in
spirit mind and body for people of all backgrounds beliefs and abilities We are

the students will get a real life lesson on how to be safe when on and around roads

Students will listen to an exciting adventure story about fire safety After they will learn the
importance of knowing that firefighters are our friends and will be shown the different fire

will learn and practice what to do if their cloths catch fire To finish students will play the
Smoke Detector game where they will learn and practice crawling low under smoke
