#2. Adecco India PVT. LTD.

Business activities: Contingency staffing, Permanent Recruitment Services, Career services, Trainings

Stakeholders engaged: Employees

CSR initiatives:

Win4Youth

Providing and guiding people towards gaining the skills that improve their employability is a core competence of Adecco

Group. The range of our activities is vast and is dictated by local market situations and needs. We took our commitment

to support skills development to a new level in 2010 with the launch of our Win4Youth programme. Win4Youth iniatiative

is to bring to life our four core values: team spirit, customer focus, responsibility, entrepreneurship.

In 2010, Adecco colleagues from around the world joined together locally and in global teams to complete a total of

228,002 km through running as a movement (which is more than five times around the world) for six selected

foundations. The Adecco Group funded every kilo meter completed and the money raised was donated to India, Haiti,

Chile, France, Spain and the USA. All foundations have a clear focus on educating and finally integrating young people into

the labor market. One of the highlights of the Win4Youth 2010 initiative was the participation of 62 colleagues from all

continents in the New York City Marathon on 7 November 2010.

After the enthusiastic response to our first initiative, we have found an exciting new challenge to again raise money for

three foundations and live our core values actively. In 2011, we will join together again – this time on wheels.

CSR initiatives:

Trainings

Training in ethics and in particular in anti-corruption was also continued in 2012. This module is planned first for sales,

procurement and legal teams as well as for the Executive Committees and Senior Managers in the Group’s units. Nearly

1,000 employees have already been trained in the Group’s different geographies, mostly in Asia (China, India, South

Korea, etc.), Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Bulgaria, etc.), the Middle East and Africa (United Arab Emirates, North

Africa, South Africa) and South America (Brazil, Argentina, etc.). It was reinforced in 2012 by the creation of e-learning

modules on employee Codes of Conduct and the Anti-corruption Code.

Women empowerment

Air Liquide’s teams are very committed to taking part in the local economic life near the Group’s sites. This participation

includes hiring employees in the area and developing close relations with training organizations and universities that can

prepare people for the Group’s core businesses. In India, the Cryolor Asia subsidiary has set up training in welding

specifically for women from local communities.

Reducing carbon emissions

Professional travel by car, train or plane is one of the main sources of Scope 3’s CO2 emissions. These were estimated at

50,000 tons of CO2 in 2012 for all the subsidiaries, which represents less than 1% of the Group’s total emissions.

Since 2012, two telepresence rooms have been operational in Hyderabad and New Delhi.

the sense that it operates with the philosophy that different parties should work together to improve community lives.

Through such a partnership, a window of opportunity for employee volunteering within companies is created in support

of the objectives of the Naandi Foundation.

Welcome to WeKare

WeKare is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for the associates of Capgemini India. The focus of this

initiative is to make a difference in the lives of the people who are less privileged.

WeKare was started at Pune in 2004, when a group of associates from the Business Analyst’s training batch wanted to take up a social initiative. Since then, WeKare has grown in leaps and bounds. The sole intent of this initiative—giving back to the society—is not guided by any business motive. WeKare is driven by the senior leadership in the organization and executed by committed group of associates. All activities under this project are subjected to seamless communication, annual audit, and total transparency with all associates in the organization.

Under the WeKare banner we have a partnership with 30+ organizations working in the areas of Education,

Environment and Employment. We help these organizations in many ways – funding, volunteering, marketing,

creating websites, articles, blogs, newsletters etc. We carry out these activities in all the seven locations across India

– Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata.

Business activities: Food manufacturing

Stakeholders engaged: Customers, Employees, Community

CSR initiatives:

Since 2009, Groupe Danone, the $18-billion French dairy company, has been developing strategies for India by leveraging

on its experience, involving easily affordable dairy products, in Bangladesh.

Danone launched a new Indian business unit dedicated to developing dairy products for lower income. As part of its

mission to bring ‘health through food’ to as many people as possible, Danone is setting its sights on India’s ‘base of the

pyramid’ consumers – an underserved demographic containing more than half a billion people. The new unit, Danone

BOP (Base Of Pyramid) India is charged with developing and marketing products to lower income consumers in smaller

towns such as Gurgaon, Faridabad, Panipat, Sonepat and Ambala, before gradually moving to other parts of the country.

In 2011, the launch of Danone BOP was marked by the launch of two new dairy products under the ‘Fundooz’ brand.

Fundooz, described as ‘a tasty, healthy and affordable food brand for school-going children’, is being manufactured at

Danone’s first manufacturing facility in India at Sonepat, Haryana. To amplify the buzz, Danone India has rolled out

innovative branded coolers and branded carts, which will go around the cities to retail out ‘Fundooz’. In 2012, Danone

launched Lassi, another dairy product locally adaptated for the Indian market. Priced at Rs 15 for a 165 ml pack, the

company has introduced Lassi in sweet, mango and masala variants across Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.

#15. Essilor

Business activities: Manufactures and markets prescription eyewear and equipment of ophthalmic optics

Stakeholders engaged: Employees, Community

CSR initiatives:

Refraction Mobile Van Project”

This project aims to make rural communities more sensitise about the problems of view. Indeed, in the remotest regions

of the Indian subcontinent, many people are still unaware that the view can be altered over time and that means can

effectively address the short comings eye. In many cases, impaired vision represents a major handicap and is directly

responsible for unemployment, social isolation and a larger scale have a direct impact on the economy.

“Refraction Mobile Van Project” is aimed primarily for poor rural areas where medical knowledge and care access are

limited. It is done for all residents of the villages visited without exceptions. The medical team thanks to their Van

provides a comprehensive eye diagnosis and provides tools for correction and treatment if necessary.

From its creation in 2005 till January 31st, 2012, the project conducted by Essilor allowed to control the vision of more

than 271,000 people in rural areas and to provide means of vision correction more than 60,000 people through visits

conducted in 2473 villages.

Essilor for this project has invested more than `2.5 million in five years. This budget includes the establishment of Van

conditioned and equipped to care, the stock of lenses and frames but also the staff of Van, consisting of a driver, two

ophthalmologists, an optician and a person in charge of schedules. The important point of this project is that investments

involved are not only monetary but also material providing new products adapted to the population.

The originality of this project is really appreciated, we can say that they allow the under privileged people to benefit from

Essilor’s knowledge and experience. It is a huge know-how they provide to the rural population and all this is free of cost.

It is also a sustainable and durable action because it helps the people concerned in the long run in spite of providing

punctual help. Gurubari Baske, mother of a Maoist leader who is on the hit list of the West Bengal Police

force. This lady was diagnosed for cataract and was taken to Sankara Nethralaya, Kolkata for free cataract surgery.

To take it to the next stage they would like to follow the “Narrow & Deep Approach”; identify a single state , thereafter

cover the complete state over a period of time , create a better impact in terms of correcting the refractive error situation

and a better visibility of the intervention.

#17. LOREAL India

Business activities: Manufacturer and Marketing of Hair Color & Cosmetics

Stakeholders engaged: Customers, Community, Employees

CSR initiatives:

Beautiful Beginnings

The L’Oréal’s success starts with their people who are the most precious asset for the company. They embrace

responsibility to their employees, their consumers, their environment and the communities in which they operate.

L’Oréal supports underprivileged young women thanks to a certified training center in beauty care. The target is

mostly girls dropouts of school from slum areas.

The training covers Hair Cuts, Color, Care, Styling, Skin Care Facials, Threading, Waxing, Manicures and Pedicures.

The aim of this training is to give them their first job but also provide them an economic security thanks to the knowledge

they acquire with these formations. ‘Beautiful Beginnings’ is conducted in partnership with the NGO Action Aid.

As a result these girls either become employable in existing beauty salons or become able to set up their own small

beauty salons. They become economically secure and get more freedom to balance their family duties. In addition

to that, as a proof to the sustainability of this project, the Beauty industry has been identified by Aide et Action as a

high growth sector requiring new employment.

What we appreciated in this project in terms of corporate social responsibility is that it is a long-term project that

brings real skills and revenues to this target.

L’Oréal India has created a comprehensive education and employment project starting with the curriculum for the

4-month course at Beautiful Beginnings and providing the equipment. They have extensively trained the trainers for

the course and also co-certify the course and help the girls in getting employment afterwards. The training centers

have been created in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Nasik (newly opened) and 429 girls have been trained to date.

L’Oréal India’s manufacture is based in Chakan on the outskirts of Pune, Maharashtra amidst thriving industrial and

agricultural communities.

Upon interaction over a period of time with these surrounding villages, they came to realise that although they had

big cities like Mumbai and Pune in their vicinity the awareness levels about social issues in these villages was quite

low. With this in mind, L’Oréal India Pune’s Factory initiated ‘Project Care’ in the year 2008. ‘Project Care’ has been

developed to increase the awareness levels of the society on four basic fronts that are Health / Safety, Environment,

Education, Childcare and Women’s empowerment. L’Oréal India have diligently targeted to complete one task every

quarter and cover all the above-mentioned fields by either involving top notch experts of the respective fields or by

using in house talent.

CSR initiatives:

Promoting education

Facilitating children’s access to education in stricken regions. After a natural disaster, most of the aid and emergency

supplies are directed toward the most urgent, basic needs. Among these basic needs is children’s education, which is a

special case in itself because it requires an infrastructure that is difficult to re-establish.

Providing access to education for their children is also a difficulty experienced by the most disadvantaged populations.

Moët Hennessy in India is supporting the work of Aseema, a non-profit organization that promotes education for

underprivileged children in Mumbai, by sponsoring a class of 27 pupils.

Encouraging awareness of our interdependence on biodiversity

In the research field, LVMH is Vice-Chair of the Strategic Orientation Committee of the Foundation for

Research in Biodiversity (FRB) and also a member of the non-profit organization Orée, which covers businesses, regions

and the environment. The Group is heavily involved in Orée’s “Biodiversity & Economics” working group. In addition to

the initiatives presented above and those being carried out in the context of sustainable viticulture, ethnobotany and the

supply of precious leathers, the Maisons are involved in a number of reforestation and plant conservation projects.

The Maison has also launched an initiative for the responsible cultivation of vetiver on the Coimbatore high plateaux in

#19. Michelin India

Business activities: Tyres producer

Stakeholders engaged: Employees, Community, Customers

CSR initiatives:

http://michelinindiaforum.blogspot.in/

We have created this blog to share our learnings, observations, and personal insights and to provide a new open space for

discussion and debate. We welcome contributions of best practices and opinions from any other individual or entity, or

any other constructive inputs and insights to help us progress on our journey of sustainable development.

Rebuilding Cheenai’s Green Cover

At Michelin, there is a strong sense of responsibility towards deforestation due to industrial development. The focus

towards responsible growth and initiatives based on this focus results in careful audit of the environmental impact. At

Thervoy, Kandigai, Michelin has started planting saplings at its industrial site. The saplings are planted inside the

manufacturing facility as part of the groups ‘Green Factory’ concept. 1800 saplings have been planted inside the Industrial

site till date. Also Michelin has pledged that the plant will not draw any water from the industrial zone’s water tables.

Instead water will be taken from the Redhills reservoir, an artificial storage lake 20 kilometers from the site.

School Health and Hygiene Promotion Program:

Michelin Supported Indian Red Cross Society for implementing “School Health and Hygiene Promotion Program” in 27

Schools including - primary (19), middle schools (4) and high schools (4) around our factory in Thiruvallur district. These

institutions are either run by the Government or aided by the Government.

Peer Education training to Students

There are many reasons cited in literatures to justify the use of peer education model to promote safety, health and

hygiene behavior among students especially during adolescent stage. Moreover Red Cross has adopted peer education

model in their other ongoing health and hygiene promotion programs and found it successful and beneficial to the

students than other conventional methods.

Talent Exhibition show for students

To create awareness on clean environment, safety, personal hygiene and adolescent health, a week long elocution, essay

writing and Poster competition was organized for students.

Hiring local talent

The purpose of the recruitment drive was to provide employment opportunity to the eligible youths residing in the

vicinity of Michelin site.

Business activities: Manufacturer and exporter of alcoholic beverages

CSR initiatives:

India: helping to improve health conditions

Pernod Ricard India has many locations and production sites in India. In some regions where the Group is present,

medical institutions are few and far between. Thus Pernod Ricard India set up dispensaries and undertakes prevention

campaigns. As such, the dispensaries in Nasik (set up in 2004), Gurgaon (2006) and Behror (2007), located close to the

Pernod Ricard India distilleries, have already welcomed 37,000, 92,000 and 55,000 patients respectively. Qualified doctors

also visit the neighbouring villages to make consultations easier and to provide medicine free of charge.

In addition, Pernod Ricard undertakes prevention campaigns for health, designed to raise awareness among the local

population, and to identify potentially dangerous illnesses. For example, in Behror, truck drivers seldom see an

ophthalmologist, and do not wear glasses because of the price. This causes health and safety problems that affect the

community as a whole. In 2012, Pernod Ricard India set up an awareness-raising and sight test programme for drivers and

their families. The subsidiary also provided glasses free of charge.

Lastly, Pernod Ricard India helps to train the partially-sighted to read Braille, and helps those with a disability to improve

their employability.

Accidentology in india: understanding prevents accidents

Each year 120,000 Indians die in traffic accidents. This huge number has increased six-fold in the past thirty years. Located

in India, Renault has decided to contribute to reducing this curve. As opposed to France and Europe, in India, Renault

does not have any studies on accidentology to contribute to road safety. The Group has decided to join an Indian

accidentology consortium, RASSI, in a joint effort with Nissan, Daimler and Bosch for a three-year time frame. The

objective: studying what triggers accidents and their consequences in and around cars (80% of accidents in India involve

pedestrians) in the outskirts of the city of Coimbatore, near the Chennai plant. This scientific data will allow targeted

actions on Renault and Nissan vehicles (in a partnership with the RNTBCI Chennai Research & Development Centre), on

infrastructures and behaviour to be rolled out. These will be used as data to discuss with the local government to define

and set up targeted and efficient societal actions.

CSR initiatives:

CSR initiatives having environmental impact

SESI contributes to the betterment of environment by adopting the concept of REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE.

Elimination of paper cup usage: SESI has eliminated paper cup usage by introducing eco friendly water bottles for drinking

water purpose. By implementing this we could save 360000 units of paper per year and contribute to mother earth by bringing

down our carbon foot print.

Wealth out of waste: In this program we dispose our dry waste to a reputed recycler for recycling at their environment friendly

plant. In return SESI receives note pads which are made out of recycled paper.

Conservation of natural resources

The following actions were implemented as part of Go Green Initiatives at SESI:

• An awareness campaign among employees to optimize electricity usage.

• Set default printer option to print 2-sided to avoid the paper wastages.

• De-lamping was done where excess lighting was seen.

• Adjusted the thermostats to optimize energy usage in the HVAC system. A one-degree change can save 10 percent of

HVAC running cost.

All the above actions were supported by an active campaign in the organization through posters, stickers and screen savers

having environmental sustenance messages.

These best practices resulted in SESI winning the “Environment Award” in 2012 at the First Edition of the CSR Impact Prize

organized by Conseillers du Commerce Extérieur de la France (CCEF) in collaboration with the French Trade Commission in India

#25. Schneider Electric

Business activities: Power: Installation System Control/ Buildings/ Industry/ Energy Management

Stakeholders engaged: Community, Employees, Customrs

CSR initiatives:

Schneider Electric wants to be a key partner to provide clean energy for people and the planet.

This strategy builds upon a profitable and responsible vision and is called BipBop – an acronym standing for Business,

Innovation & People at the Base Of the Pyramid.

The context 1.6 billion people, or 300 million households, have no access to electricity. They earn less than 2 dollars per day:

- 500 million live in India; - 100 million live in Indonesia, and a similar number in Bangladesh; - 70 million live in Nigeria; More than 220 million live in Sub-Saharan Africa. - These poor families spend more than 15 dollars per month on energy.

The BipBop programme Schneider Electric has developed a sustainable programme to bring safe, clean electricity to the people who need it most worldwide. With the strong willingness to involve local communities and local stakeholders in each country, the BipBop programme addresses three key issues to provide sustainable access to electricity:

- the lack of appropriate equipment through the development of an adequate offer; - the lack of financial resources available for innovative energy entrepreneurs through funding; - and the skills and expertise shortage through technical and business training.

BipBop objectives by the end of 2011

- 1,000,000 households at the base of the pyramid have access to energy thanks to Schneider Electric solutions. - 10,000 young people at the base of the pyramid are trained in the electricity field. - 500 contractors at the base of the pyramid set up their activities in the electricity sector.

There is severe employability skill gap in many countries and hence, companies have begun luring talent through different

initiatives including CSR activities.

SG GSC, a subsidiary of the France based Societe Generale Group, has launched a unique scholarship program - 'SG GSC

India Talent Scholarship', as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to promote professional education for

students with financial constraints.

Students with financial difficulties have been selected to renowned Indian professional institutes/ universities. For This

academic year, SG GSC has offered scholarships to 11 students from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore; Indian

Institute of Management, Kozhikode; and International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore.

Nippi Kochhar, CEO of SG GSC said "India has tremendous intellectual capital which doesn't surface in view of lack of the

CSR initiatives:

Digital Unify

The Digital Unify is STMicroelectronics Foundation’s major program. It aims at spreading the benefits of digital

Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, Malta, Nepal, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda. The Digital Unify

program has reached 176’443 beneficiaries as of Q4 2012.

#29. Veolia Water India

Business activities: Water services

Stakeholders engaged: Community, Employees

CSR initiatives:

Nagpur, India. Water for the slums

To make the city of Nagpur a model for access to water, Veolia Water India and its local partner took charge of building a

new water treatment plant, upgrading five existing plants and restoring the entire existing water distribution system.

Solution

It is a sizeable project. Managed by Veolia Water India and its local partner (whose joint subsidiary will manage the water

service for the next 25 years), it consists of building a water treatment plant and rehabilitating or optimizing five existing

treatment plants. It will also be necessary to restore and develop the whole of the existing supply network, consisting of

2,500 km of pipelines.

The benefit

The benefits are multiple and decisive. Having clean drinking water on tap 24/7 is quite simply life-changing. Within five

years, the amount of water available per capita will be approximately 130 liters per day as opposed to around 90 liters

now - sometimes barely 10 liters in the slums.

Moreover, renovating the entire system will optimize production and conserve a finite resource in a country where it is

already scarce.

At present, more than 50% of the water produced is lost due to leaks in the poor infrastructure. Finally and most

importantly, there is an obvious public health benefit. It is estimated that 21% of infectious diseases in India are linked to

unclean water.
