Considering the emphasis on technological self-reliance and development and adaptation of suitable technologies for local needs to make an impact on the lives of ordinary citizens, NRDMS division of DST has taken up this mega project of capacity building by supporting trainings on “Geospatial Technologies and Applications” In this series, a 21 days Summer Training Programme on “Geospatial Technologies and applications” under Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS) Division of Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi has been sanctioned to our University which is being organized from 25 th June to 14 th July, 2012 at Centre for Geo Informatics Research & Training, College of Basic Sciences, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur (HP). The programme is designed with objectives a) To sensitize and orient the participants in the field of geoinformatics, and its applications in various fields of expertise; b) To enable the participants to evaluate the land resource base using the latest technologies of RS, GIS and GPS to use in their research/application activities ; and c) To create expert manpower to cater the needs of state and district development agencies for better utilization of natural resources and quick decision making. I request you kindly to nominate one or two Assistant Scientists/Asstt. Professors/Associate Professors or equivalent/officers from your University/Institute/department who can harness these geospatial technologies in their fields of research/applications after training. The nominated participants may be advised to make their travel arrangements only after receiving confirmation of the nomination. A Training Brochure along with application form for nomination (download: www.hillagric.ac.in/edu/cobs/gis/training.doc) is enclosed herewith. The application proforma duly recommended should reach Dr. (Mrs.) Sharda Singh, Professor-cum-Course Coordinator, Centre for Geo Informatics Research & Training, College of Basic Sciences, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur- 176062 (HP) (Phone: 01894-232245(o), 094180 10737 (m) Fax: 01894- 232245/230311 Email: [email protected]) by 20 th May, 2012. (CSK HP Agricultural University) COLLEGE OF BASIC SCIENCES
satellite remote sensing, Geographical Information System
(GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS). These
technologies play a vital role in providing comprehensive
information on various natural resources for management,
monitoring and sustainable development in the new
millennium. Remotely sensed data provide a wealth of
information in land resources characterization, mapping,
monitoring, modeling and management at different scales. GIS
is a set of tools for collecting, storing, retrieving, analyzing and
displaying natural resources information in a spatial
domain.GPS emerged as an important surveying tool in
land resource mapping activities. The information
generated through these technologies can be evaluated for
their capability, irrigability and productivity potentials to arrive
at optimal solution/action plan for developmental planning.
The Centre for GeoInformatics Research &Training(CGRT)
was established after the 80th meeting of the Board of
Management of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University
held on November 8, 2003. The Centre was created with the
mission to integrate the issues of Research, Teaching,
Training and Consultancy in natural resource management,
pollution, natural hazards, systems simulation, decision
support systems and global climate change using geo-
information technology. The Geo-centre has a multidisciplinary
faculty trained at national and international level to carry out
research and development activities in the field of Geo-
Informatics. A state of the art research laboratory is currently
catering to the needs of the research and development work
that is being carried out at the centre. This facility provides
capacity for higher end computing applications such as remote
sensing, geo-information technology, software development
and systems simulation to the faculty, and students involved in
these applications
The training programme on “Geospatial Technologies
and Applications” is sponsored by Natural resource Data
Management System(NRDMS), Dept. of Science and
Technology, Govt. of India and being organized by Centre for
GeoInformatics Research & Training at CSK HPKV, Palampur.
Objectives
1. To sensitize and orient the participants in the fields of
GeoInformatics, RS, and GIS application regarding natural
resource management towards land use planning.
2. To enable the participants to evaluate the land
Resource base using the latest technologies of RS, GIS
and GPS to use in their research activities.
3. To create expert manpower to cater the needs of
state and district development agencies for better
utilization of natural resources
