INTRODUCTION

• COMPRESSED EARTH BLOCKS ARE DEFINED AS EARTHEN BRICKS CREATED BY MEANS OF COMPRESSION IN HAND-OPERATED OR HYDRAULIC MACHINES.

• COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE MACHINES MAKE BLOCKS UP TO APPROXIMATELY 10 X 14 X 4 INCHES WHICH ARE STACKED TO FORM A WALL, AND STABILIZERS SUCH AS PORTLAND CEMENT, LIME, GYPSUM, AND OTHER CHEMICAL STABILIZERS CAN BE USED ALONG WITH THE SOIL IN THE BRICKS. STABILIZATION CAN ALSO BE ACHIEVED PHYSICALLY WITHOUT CHEMICAL ADDITIVES BY USING COMPACTION AND GRANULAR STABILIZATION.

C.S.E.B CONSTRUCTION

IT IS DIVIDED INTO 4 PHASES

1. DIGGING THE SOIL THE SOIL IS DUG OUT FROM THE TOP LAYER OF EARTH.

2. MIXING OF STABILIZER(CEMENT) AND SOIL.

THE SOIL IS MIXED PROPERLY WITH CEMENT IN PROPORTIONATE RATIOS.

3. ADDING WATER AND PREPARING THE SOIL FOR COMPRESSION.

THE SOIL - CEMENT MIX ALONG WITH WATER IS AGAIN MIXED AND WORKABLE MIX FOR COMPRESSION IS PREPARED.

4. COMPRESSION OF THE MIX.

THE PREPARED MIX IS THEN COMPRESSED IN COMPRESSING MACHINE, AND KEPT FOR DRYING AND FURTHER USE.

MIX PROPORTIONS

• CEMENT : SOIL (1 : 6)

• WATER CONTENT = 25 LITERS FOR ONE BAG OF CEMENT

• VARYING THE RATIO ESP. THE CEMENT HAS THE PROPORTIONATE COST INVOLVED

• THE RATIO CAN GO UP TO 1 CEMENT TO 10 SOIL.

FORMED DUE TO WHICH TERMITE/AIR CURRENT CAN PASS.• REQUIRES MINIMUM MORTAR BETWEEN THE BLOCKS TO MAINTAIN

• TOO MUCH MORTAR BETWEEN THE BLOCKS JEOPARDIZES THE INTERLOCKING FEATURE

• FOR FRAME STRUCTURES, HI-CSEB CAN BE USED AS FILLER MATERIALS BUT THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS SIZES INCREASES DUE TO INCREASE IN THE BLOCK WEIGHT
