$20,000 COVID‐19 Special Education Stipend


Use of Funds:The stipend was intended to assist school districts with addressing delayed, interrupted, suspended or inaccessible IEP supports and services for students with IEPs in Connecticut school districts



Use of Funds:These funds were also able to be used to provide students with IEP supports and services to remediate skills and/or address lack of progress due to the COVID‐19 pandemic



119 School Districts were able to take advantage of this funding opportunity

Districts were Creative, Innovative and Passionate in Their Efforts Toward Special Education Recovery and Renewal



Districts used stipend funds for the following activities to address needs caused by the impact of COVID‐19 on school environments:



Conduct Special Education Evaluations that were Delayed

Provide Special Education Recovery Summer Programming (not ESY)



Enhance Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Services

Provide Special Education and Related Services, including Transition Services, which were not Provided Due to COVID‐19



Provide Mental Health and Social Skills Supports to Students Requiring them Due to the Impact of COVID‐19

Obtain Special Education and Related Services Staff to Conduct Evaluations or Address Areas of Deficit Caused By the Impact of COVID‐19



Provide Staff With Professional Learning Opportunities Related to Social/Emotional Learning, Mental Health, Reading ‐ Literacy ‐Mathematics and the Development and Provision of Recovery Services to Address Student Deficits Caused by the Impact of COVID‐19



Provide Social/Emotional Supports and Staffing to Student’s that Now Required those Supports Due to the Impact of COVID‐19

Provide Re‐Engagement Activities for Students Who Became Disengaged During Remote Learning Caused by the Impact of COVID‐19 on School Environments



Obtain Educational Materials, Specialized Equipment, Transportation, and Assistive Technology for Students Requiring Them in Order to Address Deficits Caused By the Impact of COVID‐19



The Stipend Funds Continue to Have Impact

Stipend Activities Were Employed During the Summer of 2021 and Continue During the 2021‐2022 School Year.
