Congratulations to those students who qualified to represent our
school in the Grade
School Spelling Competition. Special congratulations to Nadia
Alejandro for her First Place among all 1st graders and to
Kinston
Knueppel for his Fifth Place among all 2nd graders.
Congratulations also to our Crusader wrestlers who brought home
the 2nd Place trophy from the Wisco Wrestling Tournament this
past
Saturday. St. John’s Junior Choir will be performing at the
Junior Choir Festival which takes place at
6:30pm tomorrow at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. They will
also be joining Wisco’s A capella Choir at both of our church
services
this Sunday. It is the time of the year when the weather gets
nice enough to drop students off early
outside our school doors. Please observe the 7:40 time for the
start of dropping students off. We cannot supervise students while
faculty is in
our morning devotion. We want the parking lot to be as safe as
possible and a large group of students in front of the doors and
into the
roadway is not safe. Do you know anyone interested in K3 and K4
for next year? We have places left. Please let
us know to whom we might send information. Tomorrow is the last
day of the 3rd Quarter. Please look for report cards next
Thursday.
Are you able to help with Discovery Day? Please see the link in
the article below if you can help.
Yesterday lower grades watched “Rumpelstiltskin” as performed by
the Children’s Theater of Wauwatosa. Great performance! We
were treated to the production that included Emma Bondow and
Emma Close as part of the cast. Cecilia Brown and Morgan
Festerling
perform with a different troup. “Break a leg”

Second Semester Mission Project St. John's Lends a Hand!
Aquaponics in Africa is our student mission focus this quarter.
Offerings given in the children's envelopes will all go to support
this mission. We are working with Wisconsin Lutheran High School to
help set up Aquaponic systems in Africa to help aide the people
there in growing crops using water rather than soil. Watch for a
special envelope to come home next week giving our families a
chance to "buy" a welcome back note and treat for their kids to be
delivered to them the first week back from spring break. The
proceeds will go directly to our mission.
Parents’ Preview The Parents’ Preview highlights an aspect of
next week’s service: a liturgical song, a Psalm refrain, or a hymn
stanza. Our hope and prayer is that parents will teach this portion
of the service to their children at home during the week so that
children can participate more fully in the worship service.

April Food Pantry Donation Don't forget that St. John's kids are
also supporting local mission work through non-perishable food
donations to our food pantry. Mrs. Festerling’s and Mrs. Campbell’s
1st and 2nd grades are the featured classrooms this month. Please
send your donation to school. Thank you! Thank you to all who
contributed in March.

Art Fair at Tosa Library Have you seen the Art Fair at the Tosa
library? Our students in grades 1-4 have some work displayed
through the month of March. Stop in and take a look.
Junior Choir Festival Friday, March 17, at 6:30 p.m. will be the
Junior Choir Festival at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Junior
Choirs from area WELS congregations (including St. John's), along
with WLHS's A cappella Choir, will perform a sacred choral concert.
All are invited to attend!
WLHS A cappella Choir Sunday, March 19th We are pleased to
announce that the A Cappella Choir from Wisconsin Lutheran High
School will be part of our worship services at 8:00 and 10:30 on
Sunday, March 19th. Our Junior Choir will also join them in song.
We will be hosting a brunch for the students of both choirs in
between services in the school commons. Thank you to everyone who
signed up to bring food donations. All items can be dropped off on
the school lunch counter beginning the afternoon of Friday March
17th through the morning of Sunday, March 19th. Please write the
label “Choir Brunch” on the items. Any serving dishes you would
like returned should be labeled with your name and look for them on
the hot lunch counter on Monday morning. Thank you in advance for
helping to show our appreciation to these talented musicians who
strive to use their gifts to serve their Lord.
Volunteers Needed Come Spend a Great Day with Your Child at
Discovery Day! Friday, March 24, 2017 is St. John's Annual
Discovery Day. All parents are invited to come and participate in
this amazing experience with their children. The Discovery Day
Committee is putting together a diverse group of presentations for
our students. In order to make this day an even bigger success, we
are looking for individuals to volunteer during the sessions,
lunch, opening and closing assemblies and more. Whether you are
able to assist for part of or all of Discovery Day, your time will
be well spent. We provide lunch for the presenters, volunteers, and
teachers. You may also sign-up to provide a food item. Please go to
this link to sign-up: http://signup.com/go/zSDG8D If you have any
questions, please contact Mary Gaub (414) 312-3801 or
[email protected].

Crusader Wrestling: St. John's Tosa Crusaders brought it to the
mat with 24 wrestlers vying against nine other schools in last
week’s wrestling tournament at WISCO. The Crusaders showcased their
wrestling skills and took 2nd place as a team in the tournament.
Many of the boys came home with a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place overall.
Some of our boys wrestled hard in considerably tough brackets to
take 4th. The kids were pleased with the extra support from St.
John's parents and students that had snuck over from the piano
recital to watch them wrestle. This photo does not represent our
entire team, as several wrestlers had already left before the
trophies were announced. This Saturday our boys will wrestle at St.
Paul's Cudahy. On Sunday St. John's will be hosting our “Little Man
Tournament” in the school gym starting at 3pm. This tournament is
for our 1st and 2nd graders to demonstrate the skills they have
learned this season.

JA Volunteers Needed 3rd & 7th Grade Thank you to all who
have volunteered! We are still in need of volunteers to teach five
mini business lessons to the 3rd & 7th grade students. The
lessons are scripted and all materials will be provided for you by
our Junior Achievement representative. Teaching the JA curriculum
is a very rewarding experience and is not much of a time
commitment. Here is the link if you would like more information
about the program, http://wisconsin.ja.org/metro-milwaukee. Please
email Dan Peterson at [email protected] if you are willing to
help, or give him a call at 414-719-4873 if you would like to
discuss what it entails. He needs to get the volunteer list to our
JA representative as soon as possible. Thank you!

K3 News We read a book called “One Tiny Turtle” which tells
about the amazing life of a Loggerhead sea turtle. The children
also made their own books to take home. This activity begins our
study of animals that hatch from eggs. This week we will have a
special presentation from Nature in the Parks entitled “Frog
Mystery”. Thanks Mrs. Gaub! The children are excited about all the
new books about reptiles and amphibians during library time. The
desert habitat has had dinosaurs, but this week it has alligators,
crocodiles, turtles, and lizards. We’d like to congratulate the
Hobler family on their new baby girl, Clara. Evelyn is a big
sister! We pray for God’s richest blessings to Clara and the rest
of the family. We are missing a Red Wooden Car with the number 1 on
it. Please take a look at home to see if it ended up at your house
by mistake. It belongs to a set of rainbow colored cars and
matching garages that stack from biggest to smallest helping the
children learn about size. Our Bible lesson was about how Jesus
came to save all people, no matter how they have sinned. Jesus
helped Zacchaeus by loving him when others didn’t and forgiving his
sins. Zacchaeus showed his faith in Jesus and his thankfulness to
Jesus by giving back what he had taken from the people of Jericho.
How comforting it is to know that Jesus loves and forgives sinners!
Because we believe in Jesus we will want to show it to others by
freely serving him out of thankfulness for all he has done for
us.

St. John’s 2017 SportService Volunteer Opportunity During the
past sixteen years, St. John’s has had the opportunity to earn
funds by staffing concession stands at Miller Park events and
events at State Fair Park (Races, Sports Shows, World of Wheels,
concerts, etc.). Without question, the most rewarding aspect of
this
opportunity has been the Christian fellowship that is shared as
we worked together for a common goal. Of course, the additional
funds
have been a wonderful bonus! Since the 2001 season, this
volunteer group has earned over $380,000! (Flip this page to see
how the
volunteers voted to distribute the proceeds.) WOW! An extra
special thank you goes out to all the dedicated volunteers who
have
continued to make this a fun and worthwhile opportunity.
This opportunity will once again be made available to St.
John’s. For those of you who are interested in helping, a schedule
is
listed below. If you are interested in helping with one event –
Great! If you are interested in helping with 5 or more events,
that’s
great, too! Remember that this is a group effort and every
helping hand is greatly appreciated! For those of you who have
friends or family members who might be interested in helping,
volunteers must be 18 or older to work at Miller Park.
We know how busy everyone is and in an effort to run this
program as efficiently
as possible, we ask that everyone complete and return the
attached form as soon as
possible stating whether you are interested in participating
during the 2017 season
or not. If you are able to participate, please check the
training date that works for you. (A few additional dates are
available throughout the season, but they have greatly limited
the number of training dates compared to previous seasons.)
As soon as you are signed up for training, we also ask that you
choose a game or two and put it on your schedule. Selecting
which games you would like to work upfront is important for
several reasons (we can always switch people around as the
season progresses): If there are days that we are unable to
cover, we need to adjust our contract immediately to avoid any
penalties.
Over the course of the season, it can save hours of
organizational time and phone calls --- it’s a lot easier to fill
in a person or two than to start from scratch each time, guessing
which “6” people might be interested in working each game!
If we have enough volunteers to work a larger stand we need to
make that request ahead of time.
You can also get your first choice of games and/or choose to
work with a group of friends.
Thank you for your help making this work efficiently! We are
once again looking forward to a successful opportunity for St.
John’s to earn additional funds. If you have any questions, please
contact JoAnn (office: 414-258-4214, call/text cell: 217-7170, or
email: [email protected].

St. John’s Sportservice Volunteer Opportunity
An extra special thank you goes out to all of the dedicated
volunteers who have helped with the Miller Park /
Milwaukee Mile Volunteer Opportunity over the past sixteen
years. Thus far this volunteer effort has earned over
$380,000! Each year at the end of the season, the volunteers and
their families gather for a pizza/sub party and to vote
on how the proceeds will be distributed. The vote is from a list
of recommendations that have been compiled and then
approved by St. John’s Executive Board. (We are in the process
of wrapping up the distribution of 2016 funds at this
time.) Through the efforts of this volunteer group, we were able
to purchase:
• gymnasium bleachers
• an electronic scoreboard
• office computers
• boys’ basketball uniforms
• girls’ basketball uniforms
• wrestling uniforms
• Cross Country Uniforms
• cheerleading uniforms
• basketball riggings and backboards

In addition, funds were also available for the start-up of St.
John’s Spirit Club, WELS Synod-wide Advertising
Campaign (2 years), advertising at the Wisconsin Athletic Club,
Library Wishlist, Teacher Wishlists, support for
“Birthday Party for Jesus” and “Discovery Day” and of course the
annual pizza/sub parties for the volunteers and their
families. Grants were also made available to the Building
Expansion Fund, St. John’s Rooted & Growing/Called
Together/Called to Gather, (debt reduction), the Lau Fund
(tuition assistance), school budget support for Athletics,
Technology and the Art program, as well as help with the cost of
a student cochlear implant. The St. John’s Crusader

was also funded by the St. John’s Sportservice
Volunteer Opportunity. WOW! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
