In rugby terms not long ago, but when you are simply training, learning new techniques and improving your skills week in week out, with no way of testing and gauging your improvement it makes for a very long time. Finally after eight weeks and a weekend-long camp, the teams hit the backfields for our first pre-season trial against the Wests Bulldogs. Due to the redevelopment of the main field and exciting prospect of it approaching completion, the match was played on Field 4. The atmosphere created by such a setting provided a really enjoyable afternoon which suited the trial game and served to provide a laid back informal backdrop to a pleasant autumn afternoon’s rugby. A new look team, which included new players like Andrew Parker and Premier Colts debutants: Sam Gorey, Chris Mansell, Dallas Anderson, Michael Stolberg and David Harle, blew away some off season rustiness to record a convincing seven tries to nil victory over a willing Wests team. Although there are many areas in which we need to improve to be true contenders in Round 1 against 2010 Grand Finalist Sunshine Coast Stingrays, it was pleasing the new players combined well with established players like Sean Mills, Jack Mullins, Luke Bertini and the likes. Some entertaining rugby was on display and some very stern defence was demonstrated by the ‘to nil’ score line. There were a few rusty squeaks to be heard throughout the game but this was to be expected. Continued Page 2…

The Premier Grade Squad commenced training this year on February 1. In rugby terms not long ago, but when you are
simply training, learning new techniques and improving your skills week in week out, with no way of testing and gauging your improvement it makes for a very long time. Finally after eight
weeks and a weekend-long camp, the teams hit the backfields for our first pre-season trial against the Wests Bulldogs. Due to the
redevelopment of the main field and exciting prospect of it approaching completion, the match was played on Field 4. The
atmosphere created by such a setting provided a really enjoyable afternoon which suited the trial game and served to provide a laid back informal backdrop to a pleasant autumn afternoon’s
rugby.
A new look team, which included new players like Andrew Parker and Premier Colts debutants: Sam Gorey, Chris Mansell, Dallas Anderson, Michael Stolberg and David Harle, blew away
some off season rustiness to record a convincing seven tries to nil victory over a willing Wests team. Although there are many

There are a couple of new ventures planned for 2011 involving Premier Rugby at Easts. We are looking at ways for the Premier
Players and Premier Colts players to work with the Junior teams on selected weeks throughout the season. We hope this will help grow a realistic pathway between our Juniors and our Premier
Colts and Premier players. There will be more information about these ‘Tiger Family Days’ in the coming weeks. Our vision is to
watch Juniors grow into Premier players and then to Super players!
Special mention must go to the ball boys who did an excellent
job in their ‘debut’ match for the Premier team. Well done lads!
All the balls were accounted for at the end of the game and the game flowed with a ball continually available for play.
This week our Pre-season trial moves across Ipswich Road to Chipsy Wood Oval. It sees the return to the park in Tiger colours
of Super players Eddie Quirk, Aidan Toua and Matthew Brandon. Kickoff is at 4.15pm. This match will hopefully
provide another indicator in our progression towards a successful first round venture. We look forward to your support this week
and throughout the season.

Yes the time has finally come! The grass is being laid on
field one hopefully as you read this. It is now time to watch the grass grow. Warm weather and some regular sprinkles of
rain will hopefully work in our favour.
The car park is currently being challenge by the dual
construction projects of field one and the new gear shed. Those who have been down to Bottomley this week will have
noticed the shed begin to take shape. It is an impressive addition to the clubs assets and will certainly make the storage and accessibility to training equipment a streamlined
affair. The car park surface will be restored as a part of the project and in time new car parking spaces will be sorted.
A HUGE thanks to Tim Stoddart who has had the challenge
of overseeing both projects that have not been without their setbacks beyond the clubs control.
