Appropriations Laser TalkEngage: We know members of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of Appropriations will soon be considering spending levels for life-saving global development work for the fiscal year 2016 foreign aid spending bill.

Problem: As concerned constituents, we are particularly interested in what is at stake when it comes to global development. In addition to saving lives and empowering people to build pathways out of poverty, global development programs also contribute to U.S. economic growth and boost our national security.

Inform (choose two or three requests from this list):

In the area of Global Health -• $850 million for Maternal and Child Health, including $235 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and an additional

$200 million for Nutrition in Global Health• $400 million for bilateral Tuberculosis control efforts• $1.35 billion for the multilateral Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria

In the area of Education for All -• $125 million for the Global Partnership for Education within Basic Education,• A total of $925 million for Basic Education

Call to Action: Will you speak or write to the leadership of the State and Foreign Operations Subcommittee of Appropriations and ask that they include the following funding levels in their bill? We, as constituents, thank you for your leadership and for considering this request.

(Tips for creating your own laser talk can be found online!)
