News & Politics

This is a very important legislation in the context of gender or sexual violence. It brings in major amendments to Indian Penal Code that was enacted by the British towards the end of nineteenth century. Definitions of what is Rape, what is Consent, Age of Consent, etc have undergone serious up-gradations. Some new crimes have been defined to meet emerging reality of harassment at work place, what constitutes harassment, use of social media in harassing women, throwing of acid on women as power tool, and so on.
