My Essential Question :

Should cricket be in the Olympics?

Page 3: Cricket

Rules of CricketA pitcher throws a ball and tries to hit three

poles called the wicket. A batter stands next to the pole and tries to hit it into the outfield. Nine outfielders try to gather the ball and throw it to a catcher. After the batter hits it he runs around two poles. If he runs around once by the time the outfielders return the ball to the catcher he gets one point. If the pitcher or another player hits the wicket it is an out. If a player hits the ball out of the stadium it’s eight points. If they hit it into the crowd it’s six points. If they hit it over a small border around the edge of the stadium it’s four points. If a player catches it the batter is out.

Cricket Competition

There are over 50 cricket leagues in Europe alone so there is likely plenty more around the world. Cricket has it’s own “Cricket World Cup.” Cricket plays through all types of weather.

Page 5: Cricket

Fans and CricketThe cricket world cup is the third most

watched sporting event. In Australia the average attendance lately is about 26000 fans per game. Australia also has the most cricket fans.

Page 6: Cricket

Setup to the OlympicsCricket would be played in a large circular

stadium with room for many fans. There would be a large green field with a runway and a wicket.

Problems with Cricket in the OlympicsCricket is rarely played in North America and

only sometimes in South America so attendance may be scarce in these parts of the world. More money would be needed to build stadiums. If cricket replaced another sport some people would be frustrated. There may be very little players from places like Canada, the US, and other countries that don’t play much cricket.

Why Cricket would Help the OlympicsCricket would possibly bring in more fans in

the Olympics. Cricket is also a exiting sport that could last a while. Not many people play cricket around the world, but if it were in the Olympics it might bring in more cricket players and fans. Cricket could also rack in money for the Olympic organization.

My Opinion of CricketCricket is a interesting sport that not many

people know how to play. I think cricket is a cool game and would rack in viewers. Although I would rather watch another sport I might watch cricket in my in my spare time.
