RESEARCH QUESTION Would the use of a central hub (website) to display

community service project information cause a rise in attendance to these event?

HYPOTHESISI predict that there will be a 25 percent increase in my

comparison data if a website is made.

POTENTIAL IMPACT ON SOCIETY

This would have an impact on our understanding of society, and how it works in relation to motivation and volunteering.1“Those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer”

http://www.jvn.org.uk/blog/four-reasons-four-sons-for-goodness-sake-we-need-young-volunteers/

BASIC SCIENCE• 5People who Volunteer and participate in community

service tend to have positive health benefits

• Community service brings the Community together

• If people know about something then they will most likely help

Page 6: CreswellR_ResearchPP

SIMILAR STUDIES/ EXAMPLES• 2United Way’s website displays community service

events through out the Nation on a large scale. It is a large scale model for what I am trying to achieve

http://www.unitedway.org/

Page 7: CreswellR_ResearchPP

SIMILAR STUDIES/EXAMPLES• 3A study done on “Differential Benefits of Volunteering

Across the Life Course” looked at the effect of volunteering on ones health

• Their study focused on those people 60 and older

Page 8: CreswellR_ResearchPP

DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY• Create a survey to administer to random mast classes to

see their involvement in community service

• Collect the data and see what percentage of people were involved and also to see with what organizations, and how they heard about getting involved.

• Contact community service groups around Chapin and collect dates and contact information from them.

• Create a website with the dates and contact information

Page 9: CreswellR_ResearchPP

DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY (CONT.)• Pass out the QR code and post it around town and in

the school.

• After one month of the websites creation hand out the survey to the same mast classes

• See how the data compared from one month prior

Page 10: CreswellR_ResearchPP

DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY (CONT.)• With the comparison data I will be able to support my

hypothesis and the reasoning for having the website

http://mattressessale.eu/tag/people-volunteering

Page 11: CreswellR_ResearchPP

DATA COLLECTION• Survey given to randomly generated 11th and 12th grade

MAST classes

• Handed out survey through the use of a QR code

• 25 points of data was collected

DATA ANALYSIS (PRELIMINARY)

Page 13: CreswellR_ResearchPP

DATA ANALYSIS (POST)

Page 14: CreswellR_ResearchPP

CONCLUSION• There is no statistical evidence to back the creation of the

website and its effectiveness on community service

• Some limitations were the amount of time the website was out and the low number of events for community service during this time
