Aims

Minimal size

Smallest D possible

Time factor… not too worried about it

We plan to worry about optimisation later

Page 3: Creativity journey.-group-17

The Standard type of Gear Box

Example in class

Really long- large D

Want to decrease D- make it more of a cube

Page 4: Creativity journey.-group-17

Initial Idea: Planetary GearsWhy?

Very flat profile-

Space saving

Page 5: Creativity journey.-group-17

The problem with Planetary Gears

Precision- Planetary gears are required to be highly accurate… laser cutting is not…

The ring gear is very thin, so it may not be strong enough in acrylic

Possible Layouts

Another Idea…Considering a PulleySpool Size - Affect to Torque Demand

Guiding the String would avoid possible interference of string with Bearings. Depending on String Diameter

Page 8: Creativity journey.-group-17

New IdeaSomething Simpler

Some Considerations (& Calculations)Accommodating grease pocket for lubrication

Page 10: Creativity journey.-group-17

To Further Develop this ideaConsider the factor of safety… does it need to be 2 or can it be smaller and reduce the size of the gears (d)

Consideration into the diameter of the shaft- 6mm is the smallest

Create the smallest gear possible with a 6mm shaft- the smallest gear will have to be slightly larger than 6mm

Locking mechanism of DC motor◦ Use the reverse direction of Motor rotation to ensure effective locking.

Pathfinding

Gear layout optimising software

Not found but could be handy…
