Creating a random quiz in Brightspace
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mA3vNTbYcOc
There are multiple ways to randomize within a Brightspace quiz. They are:
1. Shuffle questions at quiz level – This shuffle will make the available questions shuffle throughout the quiz. This would shuffle all questions.
2. Question Pools – Allows you to select a number of questions to randomize from a pool. Each question will have the same value. For example, Select 3 questions out of 16 (from question library). You cannot make the point levels per question different, nor make some questions in the pool mandatory.
3. Section Pool – Allows you to shuffle and purposely pull all questions that you want to give to learners. You can also add different point values per question given.
Option 1 Shuffle questions at the quiz level
✔ Click on the square next to Randomize answers for each learner to randomize
answers for each learner.
✔ Enter the appropriate number of points for this question.
This will be at a default of 1 point, if you do not change it.
✔ Click on the Save button to finish creating the question.
If you click on the dropdown arrow next to Save, you will also be able to save this question and either copy the question or create a new one.
Option 2: Question Pools
If you have longer quizzes, you may import question pools into your Question Library.
Question LibraryThe first time you use Brightspace, your individual Question Library will begin empty.
It can be populated by importing zipped question pools, or you can make them yourself.
Import a question pool
✔ Click on Course Tools in the course navigation bar, then select Quizzes from the
drop down menu.
✔ Select Question Library
✔ Click Import, and then Select Upload a File from the drop down menu.
The popup window will appear allowing you to upload a question pool file, either by using the drag and drop feature, or clicking Browse files to select from a file location. Files must be in a supported format to work.
In this quiz, two questions were added as individual items by selecting Browse Question Library, and selecting questions one at a time.
But what if you want all three of these as a randomized block?
To add these to a question pool, you will need to import them.
✔ Click Add, and then Select Question Pool from the drop down menu.
If you select Browse Question Library before you type into the next window, your question library will pop up to the right.
Here, you see that the first question was already used in this quiz because there is a green check mark and text that says Already Imported , so you won’t re-select it and have it appear twice in the same quiz.
Now, you can look at the remaining questions and check the questions you want to use.
