You took a vision for an internal JROTC news source and through a team effort you far exceeded my expectations. You should all be proud of your planning and organization efforts over the last three months preparing for the publication of this addition. Congratulations on your success. This has certainly been a busy year filled with transitions, change, and some uncertainty. While we had to say good-bye to Master Sergeant (Ret) Mike Allen, we have also been blessed with the addition of Sergeant Major Gerry Thifault. SGM Thifault served as the Army Instructor for the HOPE High School JROTC Program for the last five years and brings with him a great deal of expertise and institutional knowledge. He has already made far reaching positive impacts on this program and I’m enthusiastic about the progress Gerry and I will make over the summer with the program. Bottom line; we are better today than we were on 1 September, and we will continue that progress. To the Senior Class, I’d like to extend my congratulations on a successful four years and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Remember this, assume no risk - expect no rewards. Never be afraid to challenge yourself and don’t settle for the easy way out!!! Each one of your have the potential within to accomplished your established goals – however, you have to work for it. Thunderbolts!! To the in-coming leadership for SY 09-10; Regine Felix, Sovattana Eang, Channa Uy, and Christopher Blake and all those who will be trusted to assume the mantle of leadership; my expectations for you are simple, make this program better! Bolts Marksmanship Team Earns Silver Medal at the Rhode Island Junior Olympics By Cadet Command Sergeant Major(LET 4) Dyami Kelley-Clark
The Cranston H.S. East JROTC Marksmanship Team’s shooting aces, including team Captain Dyami Kelley-Clark (LET 4), Dennis Wilbur (LET 3), Daniel Curran (LET 2), and Andy Le (LET 1), recently earned the Silver Medal at the RI Junior Olympics in Newport, RI. On April 18th, 2009 the team traveled to Newport RI to compete against schools, and other rifle clubs. The completion required shooter to fire 20 shots from the Prone, Standing, and Kneeling positions. Despite the fact that the CHSE
team was competing in a competition designed for high precision marksmanship rifles, they still succeeded in bringing home the silver team medal. Cadets Kelley-Clark and Curran also distinguished themselves and Cranston East by achieving bronze individual awards for breaking a score of 400. Dan Curran fired a score of 402 while Kelley-Clark fired a 412. With the graduation of Dyami Kelley-Clark in June, Cadet Daniel Curran has been named Marksmanship Team Captain for the 2009-2010 school year.

Special Thank You to “The Drill Mom” In this newsletter we would like to say a special thank you. We would like to recognize a woman that is always trying to help us out without expecting any pay. The Cranston High School East JROTC Battalion wants to thank Ms. Ruggieri for being such an optimistic and cheerful influence in our battalion. As the “Drill Team Mom”; Ms. Ruggieri interacted with most of the Cadets in the Corps and won the hearts of all of us in the Battalion with her warm presence. We would like to let Mrs. Ruggieri know that we appreciate all your effort s in helping the program.
