SummaryI'm an accomplished senior production-artist and award-winning writer with 14+ years’ experience overseeing production schedules and design in the advertising and publishing industries. I excel at resolving production or quality assurance issues through improving processes, while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
PortfolioIt’s difficult, as a production artist, to say you alone designed something. Our main function is to refine, resize, revise, retouch, build comps, board presentations, bind booklets and preflight and prepare files to send out to vendors, working closely with designers and art directors to get the best final products possible, while always keeping an eye on efficiency, accuracy and, very often, tight deadlines.
With that in mind, what follows are samples of a few projects for which I had more design input than usual.
Project Description: This mailer had a complex, diagonally cut middle portion that changed when a side tab was pulled. The sample shows the front, front after tab was pulled, inside and inside with pulled tab.
My Role: I created the die-lines for multiple panels on this complex project. I also did retouching on the images.
Project Description: A series of print ads, featuring local sports figures, created for Cleveland Stance, an anti-gang initiative
My Role: Resizing many ads of this kind, revising, photo retouching (removing background from original photos) and preparing final files for publication
Project Description: Resizing and revising static online ads for Cleveland Clinic, always conforming to their brand standards
My Role: For the Adcom Group, I often worked on resizing, revising and preparing final files for static online banner ads like these for Cleveland Clinic. I also worked on resizing hundreds of Clinic outdoor boards with similar layouts.
Project Description: Resizing of outdoor boards for KeyBank, including photo retouching, revisions and preparing final files according to vendor specs
My Role: While working for the Adcom Group, I was responsible for resizing hundreds of outdoor boards like this one. As with ad resizing, the sizes could vary greatly, requiring me to alter the layouts, sometimes radically. I also did photo retouching on many of these.
Project Description: Resizing, revisions, photo retouching - all keeping within Cleveland Clinic brand standards - and preparing final files to meet publication specs
My Role: While I was with the Adcom Group, I resized thousands of ads like this one. Since the ad sizes were so varied - from tall and thin to short and wide - the design of the ads often needed to be altered considerably to accommodate the ad space.
ShowHouse DisplayProject Description: While freelancing at ADPRO Promotional Marketing, I worked on several layouts for Moen faucets and their ShowHouse brand.
My Role: The design shown was created as part of a faucet display, using Photoshop and InDesign. The faucet was mounted on the front, and this piece fit into a glass frame behind. I created the design and layout.
Petland Holiday InsertProject Description: This is one of many Petland layouts I worked on while freelancing at ADPRO Promotional Marketing.
My Role: I didn't design the initial layout for this insert, but did create the coupons. I searched for product images from manufacturer sites, eliminated backgrounds and otherwise manipulated the images, using Photoshop and QuarkXPress.
Project Description: This is one of many Petland layouts I worked on while freelancing at ADPRO.
My Role: I didn't design the initial layout for this ad, but did find and modify the illustrations, and created the map and coupon using Illustrator and InDesign.
Moen “M" DisplayProject Description: I created this piece while freelancing for ADPRO Promotional Marketing. I was assigned the task of creating the "M" and adding various pictures within its boundaries, though I was not provided with the original "M" template.
My Role: I recreate the Moen "M" by choosing the closest font I could find, modifying the "M" in Photoshop, creating a work path from that and pasting the images inside.
Project Description: This banner is one of four created for a Moen/ShowHouse convention. Each piece was more than three-feet high, designed to be attached to support poles, and each included one of Moen's inspirational keywords: "Enjoy," "Create," "Learn" and "Partner."
My Role: I was the graphic designer, using InDesign and Photoshop.
Petland Fish Club PosterProject Description: This is a window poster I designed to promote Petland of Omaha's new fish club. Created with InDesign and Photoshop.
My Role: Graphic Designer. The piece was produced as a freelance assignment for ADPRO Promotional Marketing.
Auto Warranty Group AdProject Description: Print ad for The Antidote Newspaper, created with Photoshop and InDesign
My Role: Sometimes clients who advertised in my monthly newspaper, The Antidote, needed me to design an ad for them. This is an example of such an ad. I did the writing and design.
