For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in theowner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warrantyapplies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank-

shafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions con-tained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearestSears Parts & Repair Center in the United States. This warranty applies only while thisproduct is used in the United States.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow allinstructions on the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thoroughlyfamiliar with the controls and the properuse of the machine before starting.

• Do not put hands or feet near or underrotating parts. Keep clear of the dis-charge opening at all times.

• Only allow responsible individuals, whoare familiar with the instructions, to oper-ate the machine.

• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., whichcould be picked up and thrown by blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other peoplebefore mowing. Stop machine if anyoneenters the area.

• Do not operate the mower when bare-foot or wearing open sandals. Alwayswear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unlessabsolutely necessary. Always look downand behind before and while movingbackwards.

• Never direct discharged material towardanyone. Avoid discharging materialagainst a wall or obstruction. Materialmay richochet back toward the opera-tor. Stop the blade when crossing gravelsurfaces.

• Do not operate the mower withoutproper guards, plates, grass catcher orother safety protective devices in place.

• See manufacturer's instructions for

proper operation and installation ofaccessories. Only use accessories ap-proved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing graveldrives, walks, or roads.

• Stop the engine (motor) whenever youleave the equipment, before cleaning themower or unclogging the chute.

• Shut the engine (motor) off and wait untilthe blade comes to complete stop beforeremoving grass catcher.

• Mow only in daylight or good artificiallight.

• Do not operate the machine while underthe influence of alcohol or drugs.

• Never operate machine in wet grass.Always be sure of your footing: keep afirm hold on the handle; walk, never run.

• Disengage the self-propelled mech-anism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine.• If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor) andcheck immediately for the cause. Vibra-tion is generally a warning of trouble.

• Always wear safety goggles or safetyglasses with side shields when operatingmower.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip &fall accidents which can result in severe in-

jury. All slopes require extra caution. If youfeel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it.DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: neverup and down. Exercise extreme cautionwhen changing direction on slopes.

• Remove obstacles such as rocks, treelimbs, etc.

• Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tallgrass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

• Do not trim near drop-offs, ditches orembankments. The operator could losefooting or balance.

• Do not trim excessively steep slopes.• Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced foot-

ing could cause slipping.

III. CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operatoris not alert to the presence of children.Children are often attracted to the machineand the mowing activity. Never assumethat children will remain where you lastsaw them.• Keep children out of the trimming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.• Be alert and turn machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,look behind and down for small children.

• Never allow children to operate the ma-chine.

• Use extra care when approaching blindcorners, shrubs, trees, or other objectsthat may obscure vision.

IV. SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

Use extreme care in handling gasoline.Gasoline is extremely flammable and thevapors are explosive.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes

and other sources of ignition.• Use only an approved container.• Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to coolbefore refueling.

• Never refuel the machine indoors.• Never store the machine or fuel contain-

er where there is an open flame, sparkor pilot light such as a water heater or onother appliances.

• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicle,ona truck or trailerbed with a plastic liner.Alwaysplacecontainerson the groundawayfrom yourvehiclebeforefilling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthe truck or trailer and refuel it on theground. If this is not possible,thenrefuelsuch equipmentwith a portablecontainer,ratherthan from a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzle in contactwith the rimof the fuel tank or containeropeningatall times until fueling is complete. Donot use a nozzle lock-opendevice.

• If fuel is spilled on clothing,changeclothingimmediately.

• Neveroverfillfuel tank. Replacegascap and tightensecurely.

V. GENERAL SERVICE• Never run a machine inside a closed

area.• Never make adjustments or repairs with

the engine (motor) running. Disconnectthe spark plug wire, and keep the wireaway from the plug to prevent accidentalstarting.

• Keep nuts and bolts, especially bladeattachment bolts, tight and keep equip-ment in good condition.

• Never tamper with safety devices. Checktheir proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, orother debris build-up. Clean oil or fuelspillage. Allow machine to cool beforestoring.

• Stop and inspect the equipment if youstrike an object. Repair, if necessary,before restarting.

• Never attempt to make wheel heightadjustments while the engine is running.

• Grass catcher components are subjectto wear, damage, and deterioration,which could expose moving parts orallow objects to be thrown. Frequentlycheck components and replace withmanufacturer's recommended parts,when necessary.

• Mower blades are sharp and can cut.Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, anduse extra caution when servicing them.

• Do not change the engine governor set-ting or overspeed the engine.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruc-tion labels, as necessary.

AWARNING: This lawn mower is equipped with an internal combustion engine andshould not be used on or near any unimproved forest-covered, brush-covered orgrass-covered land unless the engine's exhaust system is equipped with a sparkarrester meeting applicable local or state laws (if any). If a spark arrester is used, itshould be maintained in effective working order by the operator.In the state of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the CaliforniaPublic Resources Code). Other states may have similar laws. Federal laws apply onfederal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest SearsParts & Repair Center (See the REPAIR PARTS section of this manual).

Raise wheels for low cut and lower wheels

• To change cutting height, squeeze ad-juster lever toward wheel. Move wheelup or down to suit your requirements.Be sure all wheels are in the same set-

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil inthe engine. For type and grade of oil touse, see "ENGINE" in the Maintenancesection of this manual.A CAUTION: DO NOT overfill engine withoil, or it will smoke heavily from the muffleron startup.1. Be sure lawnmower is level.

2. Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.3. You receive a container of oil with the

unit. Slowly pour the entire containerdown the oil fill spout into the engine.

NOTE: Initial oil fill requires only 18 oz.due to residual oil in engine from themanufacturers 100% quality testing. Whenchanging oil you may need 20 oz.4. Insert and tighten dipstick.IMPORTANT:• Check oil level before each use. Add oil

if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.• Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You mayneed to change the oil more oftenunder dusty, dirty conditions. See "TOCHANGE ENGINE OIL:' in the Mainte-nance section of this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of tank filler neck.

Do not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regularunleaded gasoline with a minimum of87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.Purchase fuel in quantities that can beused within 30 days to assure fuel fresh-ness.

A CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil orfuel. Do not store, spill or use gasolinenear an open flame.• IL CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels

(called gasohol or using ethanol or metha-nol) can attract moisture which leads toseparation and formation of acids duringstorage. Acidic gas can damage the fuelsystem of an engine while in storage. Toavoid engine problems, the fuel systemshould be emptied before storage of 30days or longer. Empty the gas tank, startthe engine and let it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuelnext season. See Storage Instructions foradditional information. Never use engineor carburetor cleaner products in the fueltank or permanent damage may occur.

TO STOP ENGINE

• To stop engine, release operator pres-ence control bar.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings on theengine, a small amount of smoke may bepresent during the initial use of the prod-uct and should be considered normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primerthree (3) times before trying to start.Use a firm push. This step is notusually necessary when starting anengine which has already run for a fewminutes.

2. Hold operator presence control bardown to the handle and pull starterhandle quickly. Do not allow starterrope to snap back.

NOTE: In cooler weather it may be neces-sary to repeat priming steps. In warmerweather over priming may cause floodingand engine will not start. If you do floodengine, wait a few minutes before attempt-ing to start and do not repeat primingsteps.

MOWING TIPSCAUTION: Do not usede-thatcher

bladeattachmentson your mower.Suchattachmentsare hazardous,will damageyour mowerand couldvoid yourwarranty.• Under certain conditions, such as very

tall grass, it may be necessary to raisethe height of cut to reduce pushingeffort and to keep from overloading theengine and leaving clumps of grass clip-pings. It may also be necessary to re-duce ground speed and/or run the lawnmower over the area a second time.

• For extremely heavy cutting, reduce thewidth of cut by overlapping previouslycut path and mow slowly.

• For better grass bagging and most cut-ting conditions, the engine speed shouldbe set in the FAST position.

• When using a rear discharge lawnmower in moist, heavy grass, clumpsof cut grass may not enter the grasscatcher. Reduce ground speed (pushingspeed) and/or run the lawn mower overthe area a second time.

• If a trail of clippings is left on the rightside of a rear discharge mower, mow ina clockwise direction with a small over-lap to collect the clippings on the nextpass.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can be-come filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. Toprevent this, regularly hose catcher offwith water and let dry before using.

• Keep top of engine around starter clearand clean of grass clippings and chaff.This will help engine air flow and extendengine life.

MULCHING MOWING TIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-upgrass and trash. See "CLEANING" in theMaintenance section of this manual.

• The special mulching blade will recutthe grass clippings many times andreduce them in size so that as they fallonto the lawn they will disperse intothe grass and not be noticed. Also, themulched grass will biodegrade quicklyto provide nutrients for the lawn. Alwaysmulch with your highest engine (blade)speed as this will provide the best recut-ting action of the blades.

• Avoid cutting your lawn when it is wet.Wet grass tends to form clumps andinterferes with the mulching action. Thebest time to mow your lawn is the earlyafternoon. At this time the grass hasdried, yet the newly cut area will not beexposed to direct sunlight.

• For best results, adjust the lawn mowercutting height so that the lawn mowercuts off only the top one-third of thegrass blades. If the lawn is overgrown itwill be necessary to raise the height ofcut to reduce pushing effort and to keepfrom overloading the engine and leavingclumps of mulched grass. For extremelyheavy grass, reduce your width of cutby overlapping previously cut path andmow slowly.

• Certain types of grass and grassconditions may require that an area bemulched a second time to completelyhide the clippings. When doing a sec-ond cut, mow across (perpendicular) tothe first cut path.

• Change your cutting pattern from weekto week. Mow north to south one week

then change to east to west the nextweek. This will help prevent matting andgraining of the lawn.

• At least once a year, replace the sparkplug, clean or replace air filter elementand check blade for wear. A new sparkplug and clean/new air filter elementassure proper air-fuel mixture and helpyour engine run better and last longer.

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must be keptsharp. Replace bent or damaged blades._, CAUTION: Use only a replacementblade approved by the manufacturer ofyour mower. Using a blade not approvedby the manufacturer of your mower ishazardous, could damage your mower andvoid your warranty.

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from sparkplug and place wire where it cannotcome in contact with plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.3. Use a wood block between blade and

mower housing to prevent blade fromturning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with glovesand/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade and attaching hardware(bolt, lock washer and hardened washer).

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position blade on the blade adapteraligning the two (2) holes in the bladewith the raised lugs on the adapter.

2. Be sure the trailing edge of blade (oppo-site sharp edge) is up toward the engine.

3. Install the blade bolt with the lockwasher and hardened washer intoblade adapter and crankshaft.

4. Use block of wood between blade andlawn mower housing and tighten theblade bolt, turning clockwise.

• The recommended tightening torque is35-40 ft. Ibs.

• To check blade balance, drive a nail intoa beam or wall. Leave about one inch of

the straight nail exposed. Place centerhole of blade over the head of the nail.

If blade is balanced, it should remain ina horizontal position. If either end of theblade moves downward, sharpen theheavy end until the blade is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcher may be hosed withwater, but must be dry when used.

• Check your grass catcher often for dam-age or deterioration. Through normaluse it will wear. If catcher needs replac-ing, replace only with approved replace-ment catcher shown in the Repair Partssection of this manual. Give the lawn

mower model number when ordering.

AIR FILTER

Your engine will not run properly and maybe damaged by using a dirty air filter.Clean the element after every 25 hours ofoperation or every season. Replace the airfilter every 100 hours of operation or everyseason, whichever occurs first. Service aircleaner more often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER ELEMENT

1. Remove screw.

2. Remove air cleaner carefully to preventdirt from entering carburetor.

3. Take air cleaner apart and clean airfilter element.

4. Wash filter element in liquid detergentand water.

5. Wrap filter element in cloth andsqueeze dry.

6. Lightly coat filter element with cleanengine oil. Squeeze in towel to removeexcess oil. Do not saturate.

7. Reassemble parts and put back oncarburetor.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance,keep mower housing free of built-grassand trash. Clean the underside of yourmower after each use.

• Clean the underside of your lawnmower by scraping to remove build-upof grass and trash.

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector, attached between therear wheels of your mower, is provided tominimize the possibility that objects willbe thrown out of the rear of the mowerinto the operator mowing position. If thedeflector becomes damaged, it should bereplaced.

The handle can be mounted in a high orlow position. The mounting holes in thebottom of lower handle are off center forraising or lowering the handle.1. Remove upper handle and all wire

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to preventgum deposits from forming in essentialfuel system parts such as carburetor, fuelfilter, fuel hose, or tank during storage.Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol orusing ethanol or methanol) can attractmoisture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage.

• Empty the fuel tank by starting the en-gine and letting it run until the fuel linesand carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptablealternative in minimizing the formation offuel gum deposits during storage. Addstabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or stor-age container. Always follow the mix ratiofound on stabilizer container. Run engineat least 10 minutes after adding stabilizerto allow the stabilizer to reach the car-

buretor. Do not empty the gas tank andcarburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replacewith clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" inthe Maintenance section of this manual).

1. Remove spark plug.2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times to

distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one seasonto another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your canstarts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in yourgasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your unit indoors andcover it to protect it from dust and dirt.

• Cover your unit with a suitable protec-tive cover that does not retain moisture.Do not use plastic. Plastic cannotbreathe, which allows condensation toform and will cause your unit to rust.

I. OPERACION• Antes de empezar, debe familiarizarse

II. OPERACION SOBRE LAS CUESTASLos accidentes ocurren con mas frecuencia enlas cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren debido aresbaladas o caidas, las cuales pueden resultaren graves lesiones. • Quitar equipos que funcionan con gasolinadel cami6n o caravana y repostar en el suelo.Si esto no es posible, repostar dicho equipocon un contenedor portatil, mas bien que conuna tobera de gasolina.

• Mantener la tobera en contacto con el bordodel deposito de carburante o de la aperturadel contenedor siempre hasta terminar elabastecimiento. No usar un dispositivo decierre-apertura de la tobera.

• Si el carburante cae en la ropa que se Ileva,cambiarsela inmediatamente.

• Nunca Ilenar en exceso el dep6sito decarburante. Colocar el tap6n de la gasolina yapretar de modo seguro.

V. SERVICIO• Nunca haga funcionar una maquina dentro

Su segadora nueva ha sido montada en lafabrica con la excepci6n de aquellas partes quese dejaron sin montar por razones de envio.Todas las partes como las tuercas, las arande-las, los pernos, etc., que son necesarias paracompletar el montaje han sido colocadas en labolsa de partes. Para asegurarse que su sega-dora funcione en forma segura y adecuada,todas las partes y los articulos de ferreteria quese monten tienen que ser apretados segura-mente. Use las herramientas correctas, comosea necesario, para asegurar que se aprietenadecuadamente.

PARA REMOVER LA SEGADORA DELA CAJA DE CARTON1. Remueva las partes sueltas que se incluyen

con la segadora.2. Corte las dos esquinas de los extremos

de la caja de cart6n y tienda el panel delextremo piano.

3. Remueva todo el material de empaque, ex-cepto la cu5a entre el mango superior y elinferior, y la cuSa que sujeta la barra de loscontrol que exige la presencia del operadorjunto con el mango superior.

4. Haga rodar la segadora hacia afuera de lacaja de cart6n y revisela cuidadosamentepara verificar si todavia quedan partessueltas adicionales.

COMO PREPARAR SU SEGADORAPARA DESDOBLAR EL MANGOIMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango conmucho cuidado para no pellizcar o da_ar loscables de control.1. Levante los mangos hasta que la secci6n

del mango inferior se asegure en su lugar,en la posici6n para segar.

2. Remueva la cuba protectora, levante la sec-cion del mango superior hasta su lugar enel mango inferior, y apriete ambas manillasdel mango.

3. Remueva la cuba del mango que sujeta labarra de los control que exige la presenciadel operador junto con el mango superior.

El mango de la segadora puede ajustarsesegQn le acomode para segar. Refierase a"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la seccion deServicio y Ajustes de este manual.

PARA MONTAR EL RECOGEDOR DE ClaSPED1. Ponga el bastidor del recogedor de cesped

en la bolsa del cesped con la parte rigidade la bolsa en la parte inferior. AsegQreseque el mango del bastidor este en el exte-rior de la parte superior de la bolsa.

2. Deslice los sujetadores de vinilo sobre elbastidor.

AVlSO: Si los sujetadores de vinilo estan muyduros, metalos en agua caliente por algunosminutos. Si se moja la bolsa, dejela que seseque antes de usarla.

La operacion de cualquiersegadora puede hacer quesalten objetos extrafios dentro desus ojos, Io que puede producirdafios graves en estos. Siempre

use anteojos de seguridad o proteccion paralos ojos mientras opere su segadora o cuandohaga ajustes o reparaciones. Recomendamosgafas o una mascara de seguridad de visionamplia de seguridad usada sobre las gafas.

COMO USAR SU SEGADORAVELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor se estableci6 en la f_l-brica para un rendimiento 6ptimo. La velocidadno se puede ajustar.

CONTROL DE ZONA DEL MOTORPRECAUCION: Las regulaciones federales

exigen que se instale un control para el motoren esta segadora para reducir a un minimo elriesgo de lesionarse debido al contacto con lacuchilla. Per ningQn motivo trate de eliminarla funcion del control del operador. La cuchillagira cuando el motor esta funcionando.• Su segadora viene equipada con una barra

de controles que exigen la presencia deloperador, Io que requiere que el operadoreste detras del mango de la segadora parahacerla arrancar y operarla.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTELevante las ruedas para el corte bajo y baje lasruedas para el corte alto., ajuste la altura decorte para que se acomode a sus requisitos. Laposicion del medio es la mejor para la mayoriade los cespedes.• Para cambiar la altura de corte, empuje la

palanca del ajustador hacia la rueda. Muevala rueda hacia arriba o hacia abajo de modeque se acomode a sus requisitos. AsegQreseque todas las ruedas queden igualmenteajustadas.

AVlSO: El ajustador esta correctamentecolocado cuando las orejas de la placa est_lninsertadas en el agujero del mango. Tambien,los ajustes de 9 posiciones (si equipado) per-miten que el mango pueda ser movido entre lasorejas de la placa.

• Para pasar a la opercaion de acolchamiento,remover la recolectora de hierba y cerrar la

dora sin puerta trasera cerrada o el desviadorde recortes o sin el recogedor de cesped,aprobados, en su lugar. Nunca trate de operarla segadora cuando se ha removido la puertatrasera o cuando esta un poco abierta.

PARA VACIAR EL RECOGEDOR DE CIeSPED1. Levante el recogedor de cesped usando el

mango del bastidor.2. Remueva el recogedor de cesped, con los

recortes, de debajo del mango de la sega-dora.

3. Vacie los recortes de la bolsa.AVlSO: No arrastre la bolsa cuando la vacie;se producira un desgaste innecesario.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR ELMOTORAGREGUE ACEITESu segadora fue enviada sin aceite en el motor.Para el tipo y el grado del aceite a utilizar, veael "MOTOR" en la secci6n del Mantenimiento deeste manual._iiLPRECAUCl6N: NO sobrellene el motor conaceite, o fumara pesa demante del silenciadorcuando Io valla a arrancar.

1. AsegQrese que la segadora este nivelada.2. Remueva la varila medidora de aceite del tubo

de desarga de aceite.3. Usted recibe un envase de aceite con la

unidad. Vierta lentamente el envase enterode aceite en el tubo de relleno del motor.

AVISO: El terraplen inicial del aceite requieresolamente 18 onzas debido al aceite residualen el motor de la prueba de calidad de 100%del fabricante. AI cambiar el aceite puedenecesitar 20 onzas.4. Inserte y apriete la varilla medidora de

aceite.IMPORTANTE:• Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.

Agregue aceite si es necesario. Llene hasta lalinea de Ileno en la varilla medidora de nivel.

• Cambie el aceite despues de 25 horas deoperaci6n o una vez por temporada. Puedenecesitar cambiar el aceite mas a menudocuando las condiciones son polvorosas o su-cias. Vea "PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DELMOTOR" en la seccion de Mantenimiento deeste manual.

AGREGUE GASOLINA• Llene el estanque de combustible hasta

la parte inferior del cuello de relleno delestanque de gasolina. No Io Ilene demasiado.Use gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y lim-pia con el minimo de 87 octanos. No mezcleel aceite con la gasolina. Para asegurarque la gasolina utilizada sea fresca compreestanques los cuales puedan ser utilizados

,i durante los primeros 30 dias.PRECAUClON: Limpie el aceite o el

combustible derramado. No almacene, derrameo use gasolina cerca de una llama expuesta.,_PRECAUCl6N: Los combustibles

mezclados con alcohol (conocidos comogasohol, o el uso de etanol o metanol) puedenatraer la humedad, la que conduce a laseparaci6n y formaci6n de acidos durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina acidica puededaSar el sistema del combustible de un motordurante el almacenamiento. Para evitar losproblemas con el motor, se debe vaciar elsistema del combustible antes de guardarlopor un periodo de 30 dias o mas. Vacie elestanque del combustible, haga arrancar elmotor y hagalo funcionar hasta que las lineasdel combustible y el carburador queden vacios.

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR• Para parar el motor, suelte la barra de con-

troles que exigen la presencia del operador.

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTORAVISO: Debido a las capas protectoras del mo-tor, una cantidad peque5a de humo puede es-tar presente durante el uso inicial del productoy se debe considerar normal.1. Para Racer arrancar un motor frio, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de tratarlo.Empuje firmemente. Este paso normal-mente no es necesario cuando se Racearrancar un motor que ya ha estado funcio-nando por unos cuantos minutos.

2. Sujete la barra de controles que exigen lapresencia del operador abajo en el mangoy tire el mango del arrancador rapidamente.No permita que el cordon arrancador sedevuelva abruptamente.

AVlSO: En climas mas frios puede que seanecesario repetir los pasos del cebado. En cli-mas mas calurosos el cebar demasiado puedeproducir el ahogo y el motor no va a arrancar.Si se ahoga el motor espere unos cuantosminutos antes de tratar de hacerlo arrancar yno repita los pasos del cebado.

ONSEJOS PARA SEGARPRECAUCION: No utilizar dispositivos anti-

paja de la hoja en la segadora ya que estosaccesorios son peligrosos, pueden daSar susegadora y anular su garantia.• Bajo ciertas condiciones, tal como cesped

muy alto, puede ser necesario el elevar laaltura del corte para reducir el esfuerzonecesario para empujar la segadora y paraevitar sobrecargar el motor, dejando mon-tones de recortes de cesped. Puede que seanecesario reducir la velocidad del recorridoy/o haga funcionar la segadora sobre el areapor segunda vez.

• Para un corte muy pesado, reduzca el anchodel corte pasando parcialmente por encimadel lugar anteriormente cortado y sieguelentamente.

• Para un mejor ensacado del cesped y para lamayoda de las condiciones de corte, la velo-cidad del motor debe ajustarse a la posicionde RAPIDO.

• Cuando use una segadora con descargatrasera en cesped hQmedo y pesado, losmontones del cesped cortado puede que noentren en el recogedor de cesped. Reduzcala velocidad del recorrido (velocidad de em-puje) y/o haga funcionar la segadora sobre elarea por segunda vez.

• Si queda una huella de cortes en el ladoderecho de una segadora con descargatrasera, siegue en la direcci6n en que giranlas manillas del reloj, solapando un pocopara recaudar los recortes en la pr6ximapasada.

• Los poros en los recogedores de cesped detela pueden Ilenarse con mugre y polvo conel uso y los recogedores recaudaran menoscesped. Para evitar este, rocie el recogedorcon la manguera de agua regularmente ydejelo secarse antes de usarlo.

• Mantenga la parte superior del motor, alred-edor del arrancador, despejada y sin recortesde cesped y paja. Esto ayudara el flujo delaire del motor y extendera su duraci6n.

CONSEJOS PAPA SEGARY ACOLCHARIMPORTANTE: Para obtener el mejorrendimiento mantenga la caja de la segadorasin acumulacion de cesped y basura. Vea"LIMPIEZA" en la seccion de Mantenimento deeste manual.

• La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a volvera cortar los recortes de cesped muchasveces, y los reduce en tamaSo, de modo quesi se caen en el cesped se van a dispesarentre este y no se van a notar. Tambien, elcesped acolchado se va a deshacer rapidam-ente entregando substancias nutritivas parael cesped. Siempre acolche con la velocidaddel motor (cuchilla) mas alta, pues asi seobtendra la mejor acci6n de recorte de lascuchillas.

• Evite cortar el cesped cuando este mojado.El cesped mojado tiende a formar montonese interfiere con la acci6n de acolchado.La mejor hora para segar el cesped estemprano en la tarde. A esa hora este se hasecado y el area recien cortada no quedaraexpuesta al sol directo.

• Para obtener los mejores resultados, ajustela altura del corte de la segadora de modoque esta corte solamente el tercio superiorde las hojas de cesped. En el caso de que elcesped haya crecido demasiado, puede sernecesario el elevar la altura del corte parareducir el esfuerzo necesario para empujar lasegadora y para evitar sobrecargar el motor,dejando montones de recortes de cesped.Para un cesped muy pesado, reduzca el an-cho del corte pasando por encima del lugaranteriormente cortado y siegue lentamente.

• Ciertos tipos de cesped y sus condicionespueden exigir que un area tenga que seracolchada por segunda vez para escondercompletamente los recortes. Cuando se hagael segundo corte, siegue atravesado (enforma perpendicular) a la pasada del primercorte.

• Cambie su patr6n de corte de semana asemana. Siegue de norte a sur una semanay luego cambie de este a oeste la pr6ximasemana. Esto evitara que el cesped seenrede y cambie de direccion.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA1. Ponga la cuchilla en el adaptador de esta

alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la cuchillacon las salientes elevadas en el adaptador.

2. AsegQrese de que el borde de salida dela cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) estehacia arriba hacia el motor.

3. Instale el perno de la cuchilla con la aran-dela de seguridad y la arandela endurecidaen el adaptador de la cuchilla y el ciguefial.

4. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchillay la caja de la segadora y apriete el pernode la cuchilla girandolo en el sentido en quegiran las manillas del reloj.

Deje alrededorde una pulgada de un clavo recto expuesto.Ponga el agujero central de la cuchilla sobre lacabeza del clavo. Si la cuchilla esta balanceadadebe permanecer en la posicion horizontal. Sicualquiera de los extremos de la cuchilla semueve hacia abajo, afile el extremo 3esadohasta que esta quede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE CO:SPED• El recogedor de cesped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene queestar seco cuando se vaya a usar.

• Revise su recogedor de cesped a menudopara verificar siesta dafiado o deteriorado.Se va a desgastar con el uso normal. Si senecesita cambiar el recogedor, cambielosolamente por uno que sea aprobado por elfabricante. De el nOmero del modelo de lasegadora cuando Io ordene.

FILTRO DE AIRESu motor puede sufrir averias y funcionar demanera incorrecta con un filtro del aire sucio.Limpie el elemento cada 25 horas de oper-aciSn. Sustituir el papel del cartucho una vezal ado o tras 100 horas de funcionamiento,mas a menudo si se utiliza en condiciones desuciedad y polvo particulares.PARA LIMPtAR EL FILTRO DE AtRE1. Remueva el tornillo.2. Remueva el filtro de aire, cuidadosamente,

para evitar que la mugre entre en el carbu-rador.

3. Desarme el filtro de aire y limpie el el-emento del filtro de aire.

4. Lave el elemento del filtro en detergenteliquido y agua.

5. Envuelva el elemento del filtro en una tela ysequelo apretandolo.

6. Cubra el elemento del filtro con una capadelgada de aceite de motor limpio. Aprieteloen una toalla para remover el aceite enexceso. No Io sature.

7. Vuelva a montar las partes y pSngalas devuelta en el carburador.

• Haga descansar la segadora en su lado.AsegQrese que el filtro de aire y que el carbu-rador queden mirando hacia arriba. Limpie laparte inferior de su segadora raspandola pararemover la acumulaci6n de cesped y basura.

• Limpie el motor a menudo para evitar quese acumule la basura. Un motor tapado fun-ciona mas caliente y se acorta su duraci6n.

• Mantenga las superficies pulidas y las rue-das sin gasolina, aceite, etc.

• No recomendamos el uso de una manguerade jardin para limpiar la segadora a menosque el sistema electrico, el silenciador, elfiltro de aire y el carburador esten tapadospara evitar que les entre el agua. El agua enel motor puede acortar la duracion de este.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGOEl mango puede ser montado a una posicionalta o baja. Los agujeros de montaje en elmango inferior estan fuera del centro paralevantar y bajar el mango.1. Remueva el mango superior y conexione(s)

el asegurar el (los) cable(s) al mango infe-rior.

2. Remueva las clavijas de horquilla de laclavija de montaje del puntal del mango.

3. Apreite el mango inferior hacia dentro pararemoverlo de las clavijas de montaje.

4. Gire el mango inferior por encima paralevantar o bajar el mango.

5. Vuelva a montar las clavijas de horquilla porencima de las clavijas de montaje.

6. Vuelva a montar el mango superior y todaslas partes removidas del mango inferior.

MOTORVELOCIDAD DEL MOTORLa velocidad del motor ha sido ajustada en la fa-brica. No trate de aumentar la velocidad del motorpues se pueden producir lesiones personales. Sicree que el motor esta funcionando demasiadorapido o demasiado lento, Ileve su segadora amas con su centro de servicio Sears o con unotro centro de servicio cualificado.

CARBU RADORSu carburador tiene un chorro principal fijo noajustable para controlar la mezcla. Si su motorno esta funcionando en forma adecuada debidoa problemas que se sospecha vienen del carbu-rador, Ileve su segadora a contacto con su centrode servicio Sears o con un otro centro de serviciocualificado para repararla y/o ajustarla.IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipule el reguladordel motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la fabricapara la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puedeser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a unavelocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidadde la fabrica. Si cree que la velocidad alta regu-lada del motor necesita ajuste,contacto con sucentro de servicio Sears o con un otro centrode servicio cualificado, el que cuenta con elequipo adecuado y la experiencia para hacerlos ajustes necesarios.

Inmediatamente prepare su segadora para elalmacenamiento al final de cada temporada o sila unidad no se va a usar por 30 dias o mas.

SEGADORACuando se va a guardar la segadora por ciertoperiodo de tiempo, limpiela cuidadosamente,remueva toda la mugre, la grasa, las hojas, etc.Guardela en un area limpia y seca.1. Limpie toda la segadora (Vea "LIMPIEZA"
