This upward trend suggests that Florida's real estate market is beginning to stabilize, starting with Naples, Fort Myers, and the surroundi ng areas. In September, the Florida Association of Realtors released a report comparing August 2008 home sales statewide to those ofAugust 2007. Several areas offered substantial increases in the number of home sales, led by the Fort Myers-Cape Coral area at 32 percent. According to many experts, the good news may indicate that the real estate market is beginning to stabilize, beginning with areas such as Lee County. "August and September are usually slow months for the real estate market in our area," says Michael Burke, a luxury real estate expert specializing in Lee and Coll ier Counti es. "But this year, August's sales actually surpassed those in January, March, or June - and September's sales ranked even higher." According to the August report, the Fort Myers-Cape Coral area enjoyed 684 home sales in August 2008, a significant increase from only 520 sales in August 2007. Condo sales in the area also rose substantially, from 128 to 168. In addition to showing an increase from last year's data, Burke notes that the number ofhome sales in August 2008 also beat out the average for the month o ver the last decade. "Ifyou take the number of home sales in August over the past nine years, you come up with an average of 649 homes sold. But in August of this year, there were 729 pending sales, 12 percent more than the month's average." This upward trend becomes even more obvious in September's numbers, with the pending sales for Lee County coming in at a whopping 200 percent increase over September 2007. In the combined ar eas ofNaples, Bonita, and Estero, September's closed sales surpassed September 2007 by 40 percent. At the same time as the number of sales have increased, prices have decreased. The Florida Association of Realtors' report indicates that median prices in the Fort Myers-Cape Coral area have fallen 41 percent over the past year: From $250,800 in August 2007, to $146,900 in August 2008. Year- to-date sales numbers for September 2008 show a similar story: The median price for the combined areas of Naples, Bonita, and Estero was $304,495, down 20 percent from $381,000 at the end ofSeptember 2007. "In June of 2007, I sold a house for $575,000. In July of2008, I sold the same model for $525,000," Burke said, noting that he has observed price drops in choice communities ofbetween 9 and 12 percent. with CNBC, the economist RichardDekaser recently referred to the real estatemarket in neighboring Naples as "slightlyundervalued." According to the Burke,"Seventy-one percent of all closed salesare under $500,000, with 36 percent under$250,000. As a result, buyers are rightly
coming to the conclusion that now is agreat time to get a good deal."
Additionally, Burke notes, sellers whoprice their homes competitively benefit themost from the increase in sales. "I havenoticed that the sellers who are pricingtheir houses in the lower 20 percent are theones most likely to sell. The sellers whoare staying in the front of the market withprice reductions, rather than chasing themarket down, are the ones with the mostsuccess."
The lower pricing scheme isanticipated to bring even more buyers toLee and Collier Counties, which in turnwill result in more sales. "Nothing attractsbuyers like the promise of a good deal,"Burke says. "Therefore, price will remainthe key to successful selling as the market
continues to stabilize."Pricing a house on the low end of the
market can be a tough pill to swallow, butit's essentially the same principle usedwhen the market is thriving, Burke notes."If it is logical to price just ahead of themarket when prices are rising, it's alsological to price just ahead of the marketwhen prices are falling. The sellers whohave accepted this and who are priced atthe lower end of the spectrum of themarket are the ones selling."

I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning… to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth
And he spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not how much we own;
The cars, the house, the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
The Dash Poem by Linda Ellis
So, when your eulogy is being read
With your life's actions to rehash
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

plastic pots, they need less water.
Moisture evaporates rom clay pots
keeping the soil cool. Use a good
potting mixture. I preer Miracle
Gro Potting Soil. I planting rom
seed, begin with a seed tray or small
pot. I planting rom seedlings, use
pots, 3-4”.
Step 2
Avoid windowsills exposed to direct
sunlight, but herbs do need approx.
6 hours a day o sun. Turn herbs a
little each day so all parts get light.
You may consider articial lighting.
Most herbs preer a temp. o 60-70
degrees. Sharp temperature drops
are stressul or herbs, so avoid
draughts.
Step 3
Some possible herbs to grow
in pots: Chives, Chervil, Basil,
Marjoram, Parsley, Savory,
Thyme. When watering, use
tepid water and water in the
morning. You can purchase
small stick gauges
i you are not sure
when to water the
herbs. Do not over
water.
Step 4
Group your herbs together to
create a humid atmosphere. You
can also place the pots on moist
pebbles. A quick spray during
warm weather is also helpul. I
leaves become pale yellow, that’s
a good indicator that ertilizer is
needed. Over-ertilization signs
are brown leaves. Liquid ertilizers
dissolved in water work great. You
can also get ertilizer tablets and
sticks.
Step 5
As ar as harvesting your herbs,
resh leaves can be picked at any
time during the growing season.
Leaves are most tender and sweet
when the plant is young. Picked
leaves can be stored in a plastic
bag in the rerigerator where they
will keep or several days. Wilted
leaves can be revived in water.
• See yor Aromatherapist.
Rereshing, natural scents can

like cotton or linen, or foral, like
lilac or gardenia, aromas can make
rooms soothe.
