T he Pa s t o r s N o t es
Its been a bit over six months since you wel-
comed Susan and me to Central and Franklin
County. I feel weve had a wonderful begin-
ning together, and we are so happy to be here. I
write this a few days after Vacation BibleSchool, and as I think back over that experi-
ence, much of what is good and beautiful about
Central was on display.
First, the emphasis on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Sometimes, VBS can be a glorified play and
craft time with some little Bible lessons
slipped in. Centrals VBS was all about help-
ing children come to know, love and obey the
Lord Jesus. This VBS was the most Spirit-filled and Christ-centered Ive ever encoun-
tered. And one result is that fifteen children
gave their lives to Jesus Christ as their Lord
and Savior.
Second, VBS was saturated by prayer.
Sandys prayer calendar helped us focus on
particular aspects of VBS and pray during the
month leading up to the event; each evening
was begun by prayer and prayer took placeduring may class times as well. VBS is a busy,
detail-intensive ministry and its all too easy to
overlook prayer, but you all kept praying and
as a result one could sense the presence of the
Holy Spirit.
Third, many of you participated in VBS, giv-
ing of your time and energy. I have to admit, by
Thursday night I was tired and all I did was lead
an adult Bible study. Over eighty of you worked
with children, or helped set up, or led the musicand games - requiring preparation, energy and
engagement. Central is a hands-on church where
members rally together to serve in ministry, and
its a blast to be part of it.
Fourth, I was deeply impressed by the compe-
tency and collaborative spirit of our church staff.
Sandy deserves the lions share of our gratitude
for her amazing work organizing VBS, recruit-
ing and training the team, managing the hun-dreds of details and giving it a Christ-centered
focus.
But others from your church staff participated
as well - Dani and Erin leading the music, Deb
presenting skits, Ron and Bertie providing ad-
ministrative and custodial support. What really
delighted me was how the church staff func-
tioned as a team and plunged in to serve to-
gether. What a blessing it is for me to be part ofthis team of servants who love Jesus, and you.
All this makes me deeply grateful to be part of
the community of Gods people at Central
Presbyterian.
PS - Remember that this Sunday is Fifth Sunday at Central. That means ONE blended worship service at
10 AM in the Sanctuary, followed by a pot-luck luncheon in Friendship Hall. Come dressed comfortably
with a dish to share and prepared to worship God with your friends in Christ.

Dear Luncheon Committee,I want to thank you for preparing such a wonder-
ful buffet for the family gathering after my
mothers, (Jayne Nansen), funeral. Since we arefrom out of town, it was very difficult for us to plan
such an event. We were thrilled you offered. Eve-
ryone who attended enjoyed the meal and appreci-ated a place to visit.
Sincerely,
Beth Cerri & Family
Dear Central Church Family,
Thank you for the many acts of kindness shownto me during my time in the hospital and at
home. Thank you to Pastor Scott for his visits and
to others for their visits and caring. Thanks to the
Semper Fidelis/Brotherhood Class for the beauti-ful altar flowers. Many thanks to everyone who
sent beautiful flowers and lovely cards, special
wishes and hugs through Brenda. Thanks most ofall for your prayers and love.
You remain in my prayers. God bless you.Love and gratitude,

Dear Church Family,
During my most recent challenge and hospi-
talization, your thoughts and prayers, cards, phone calls, flowers, food shopping and visits
all contributed to my recovery.
Another important contribution to my contin-
ued faith in a positive outcome was Rev.Scotts home and hospital visits. He always
had a big smile, encouraging words, and won-
derful prayers.Lew and I appreciate your support and best
wishes. The Lord is good!
In Christian Love,
Lucille & Lew
Thank you for the many cards, phone calls,
visits, and acts of kindness that we receivedduring the loss of our mother, Shirley
Rife. Your thoughtfulness was overwhelming
and we truly felt surrounded by our caringchurch family. Your prayers lifted us up and
helped to make a difficult time more bearable.Bruce, Angie, and Drew RifeJim, Marcia, Jess, and Jeremy Whitmore

The figures above show the recap of Central Presbyterian Church income versus expenses for the initial 25 weeks of 2013. If you recall,
we entered 2013 with a deficit budget versus total projected income of approximately $60,100. To date, our giving is slightly over budget for
2013 and is 32% ahead of 2012 giving through the same period. Our total income is also benefiting from Bank and Trust income over
budget and a small tax refund. Our spending year to date is slightly below budget. As planned for 2013, Central will need to maintain cur-
rent giving and attendance growth to meet our budget obligations. We are making progress!

Wednesday, June 12 was the annual Men's Picnic. Morethan 30 men and boys attended and enjoyed two typesof Ribs, Wings and Hot Dogs. Most of all we enjoyedtalking and sharing together. There were many greatdishes that were brought to be shared and true to the"manly" thing there was no dessertleft of the large assortment that wasbrought! The rain held off just as we
ordered. Kids waded in thestream--some played beanbag toss--others ate water-melon!

Casavant Organ ProjectFor some time the Swell reeds on thepipe organ have been difficult to keepin tune. We have consulted with our
organ tuner, Mark Steiner as well asCraig Doyle from Hagerstown Organ, the company that rebuilt our consolein the late 1990s and did other workat that time. They in turn have dis-cussed this with Trivo, a company inHagerstown that makes reed pipes. Itis their recommendation that we re-place these unstable Swell reeds withnew ones that will hold tuning better.
Samples have been brought to the
sanctuary and tested when the organtuner was here recently. They willbe voiced at the factory and thenbrought to the church for finishing. The organ is not expected to be "down"or out of use for any Sunday Worshipservices. The new pipes will replace theold ones with the work being done dur-ing the week. It is anticipated now thatthe project finish target date is aroundLabor Day.We will attempt to keep you informedas to progress. If you have any ques-tions you may contact me as Organ-

UPCOMING FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITIESJULY 20: ChambersFest On July 30, 1864, Chambersburg became the only northern town to
be burned by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. Chambersburg bounced back quickly
and has celebrated the spirit of the townspeople and the rebirth of the town every July since
1986. Central participates in the celebration by extending our hospitality and opening our doors
to visitors. Greeter sign up sheets will be posted in the lobby in June.
AUGUST 23: Annual Church Picnic Once again we will be meeting Friday evening at Norlo
Park to share food and fellowship with members and friends of Central. More information, and
reservation slips, will be available soon, but reserve the date now.
SEPTEMBER 29: 5th Sunday Service Central will worship together as one body and celebrate
our 145th anniversary. Following the service will be a special lunch commemorating our heri-
tage. More information will be available soon, but reserve the date now. You will not want to
miss this service.

CHAMBERSFEST
On July 30, 1864, Chambersburg became the only northern town to be burned by Con-federate soldiers during the Civil War. Chambersburg bounced back quickly and hascelebrated the spirit of the townspeople and the rebirth of the town every July since
1986. Numerous events are held during a 16-day period for a complete listing visitchambersburg.org/pages/ChambersFest/
On Saturday July 20 Celebrate! The Arts at Old Market Days will be held downtown. This is a street festival featuring food and craft vendors as well as entertainment. Aspart of this celebration, we will again have the church open for cool air and bathroombreaks. We are looking for volunteers to serve as greeters in the LWW lobby. We willneed approximately 2 people for each shift: 9:00-11:00 AM, 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, 1:00-3:00 PM, 3:00-4:00 PM, 6:00-8:00 PM, and 8:00-10:30 PM.
Last year the organizers added a new event the simulated Burning of Chambers-
burg. Using lazar lights and character actors, people will experience an interactive re-enactment of the ransom demand and the town burning. Since this event was very wellattended last year, we want to keep our building open through the evening.
If you are interested in greeting, please add your name to the sign up sheet posted inthe Lincoln Way lobby. This is a wonderful opportunity to share in the fun downtownand extend our Central hospitality.
