Its October and that means The Festival of Lights is upon us. To all Hindu’s celebrating this year, Deepavali Valthakal. To everyone, please take great care and caution when balik kampung to celebrate the festive season with your loved ones. Its times like these that enables us to come together, place our difference aside and just enjoy in the spirit of the festivities. What better way than murruku and jam tarts to go along with reminiscing of the good ol times.

Adding to the cheers is the man on our front cover, Sasi the Don. Now you would think that with a name like Don, it would conjure up the images of Russian bodyguards standing beside him. But as it turns out, Sasi is a really nice guy (and no, he didn’t actually have any Russian bodyguards). You want to know what his tradition for Deepavali is? Turn to the feature story on page 24/25.

Guy Stuff section is back in Chic Fix as we got some good response for the column we ran last month. Looks like this will be a feature staple in our future issues. Not forgetting the girls, Chic Fix is going Denim in this issue. Did you know that Denim was once banned? Check it out in our Fashion Trend section.

On that note, from all of us here at Campus Plus, we wish all our Hindu readers Happy Deepavali and everyone a safe trip home.

Cheerios.

Prudential R U Ready Music Video Contest

10,000 Jobs at Career Fair on Malaysia Day Weekend

CAMPUSPLUS \\ OCTOBER 2011

What does music and financial planning have in common? According to Prudential, music is a great way to convey the importance of financial planning. Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad (PAMB) has taken an unconventional approach to promote fiscal awareness amongst Generation Y by launching the “R U Ready” music video contest. The contest which offers up to RM30,000 in cash is based on the song “R U Ready” jointly created by Prudential and local indie band Busco. The song has since hit the local airwaves beginning July 25th, 2011. According to Fiona Liao, Brand and Communications Director of PAMB, “the reason behind the launch of this contest was to get the youth to start thinking about their life game plan and how best they could be prepared for it.” She further added, “We were looking for the best way to communicate to the youngsters on the importance of getting ready for their life and that includes the financial aspect of it and we found music to be a powerful medium for us to connect with them. As much as we want to get our message across, we also want to engage them in conversations and make them feel comfortable in sharing and expressing their views on life”. Aside of financial planning, youths also stand a chance to be featured on the screen as each of the selected entry will win RM1,000 in cash and be featured in Busco’s “R U Ready” music video. The “R U Ready” music video contest is open to all legal residents of Malaysia aged 18 and above. Submissions and more information can be obtained through R U Ready Facebook page at www.fb.com/rureadymy.

Over 10,000 jobs was up for grabs at the JobStreet.com Malaysia Career & Training Fair 2011 (MCTF ’11). The event was jointly organized by AIC Exhibitions and JobStreet.com at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Kuala Lumpur from 16th to the 18th September 2011.

Officiated by Deputy Human Resources Minister, Senator Dato’ Maznah Mazlan, the second MCTF occupied 45,000 square feet of exhibit space and featured over 120 local and international companies as well 60 universities and training providers.

Among them were top class companies such as RBC Dexia I.S., KFC Holdings (M) Bhd, Sony EMCS (Malaysia), Hewlett Packard Malaysia, Western Digital, UMW Toyota, Venetian Macau Limited and many more.

According to William Ng, Managing Director of AIC Exhibitions Sdn. Bhd, “The MCTF is being held during the Malaysia Day weekend to enable more jobseekers from outside of Klang Valley to visit and apply for their dream jobs. The response has been overwhelming, with visitors queuing up as early as 7 am for the Fair to open at 10 am”. The event attracted a total of 72,000 visitors.

Jobseekers who attended were also given on-the-spot interviews as well as resume clinics and career talks to brush up on their job hunting skills. Alongside the MCTF’11, the Post Graduate Education Fair (PGEF) was also held for visitors keen on gaining additional education for better employment.

The MCTF’11 fair offers the most variety of jobs, ranging from fresh graduate jobs to senior management positions, from IT sectors to banking and manufacturing.

IACT College wins MOHE’s Website Design Competition

Nottingham University signs MoU with AutoV

IACT College was recently awarded first place in the Best Website Design Competition 2010 organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) under the IPTS - Kolej (Private Higher Learning Institute - College) category. The award was presented by the Ministry of Higher Education in Putrajaya.

The competitions’ main objective was to improve the quality of higher education institutions’ website content – delivering information effectively in order to meet the ministry’s requirements. The MOHE also endeavoured to create healthy competition amongst various institutions to encourage improvement in Information Technology management.

IACT College’s winning factor was a website design that consisted of a harmonious combination of bold and striking colours, which at the same time did not lose its nature as a higher learning institution website. The website fully demonstrates IACT College’s philosophy, and its actual state – a creative communication college, calling for creative thinkers who dare to be different.

“This award serves as a form of recognition that IACT College’s website is of quality, highly accessible and fulfils the public’s needs. It also indicates that IACT College possesses the expertise in the field of creative communication, extended to the digital platform. I am certain that this attribute of our ever growing management team will certainly provide a positive influence to our students and ultimately – to the Malaysian community,” said Michael Choong, Chief Operating Officer of Kolej IACT Sdn Bhd.

The evaluation of the competition is based on such criteria as bilingual interface, ease of browsing, external links accessibility, student services availability, social websites connectivity, supportive technology, and the quality of design and presentation. Additionally, MOHE also aims to transform websites into an alternative medium of service and reliable source of information for the public.

AutoV Corporation Berhad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC). The signing enables AutoV to enter into a research and development (R&D) commercialisation collaboration with the instituition, launching a key knowledge transfer initiative in the country.

The signing also marks a synergistic working relationship between a home-grown industrial corporation with a world-class research university to drive and leverage on R&D. Both AutoV and University of Nottingham will investigate and exploit opportunities arising from the partnership which is hoped to produce an in-depth knowledge body. The industry-education sector collaboration was formalised in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the university campus in Semenyih.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bernard Kong and Deputy Chief Operating Officer Idris Mohammad Musa inked the MoU on behalf of AutoV while UNMC was represented by Chief Executive Officer and Provost, Professor Ian Pashby and Vice Provost Research and Knowledge Transfer, Professor Graham Kendall.

“AutoV is buoyed by the prospects of this smart partnership which has immense potential to be a catalyst of growth for the knowledge-based economy, which the Government promotes,” said Kong.

The MoU will now provide AutoV with access to University of Nottingham R&D facilities and talent pool. There will be joint efforts in R&D and possible commercialisation of the R&D outcome.

AutoV will reciprocate the institutions knowledge transfer through R&D by providing engineering undergraduates with access to the group’s manufacturing facilities for on-the-job training through a structured job-placement programme.

HELP University debut World Giant Poem In Malaysia

Gatsby Dance Competition returns with Gusto

11CAMPUSPLUS \\ OctOber 2011

“The World, A Giant Poem” made its debut in Malaysia. The global event that promotes world peace by enabling participants to pen original and impromptu poetry was brought to Malaysia thanks to HELP College. The event was held at the instituitions campus at Jalan Metro Pudu.

The Giant Poem project is the brain child of Mr. Angel Arenas, Director of International Relations at UNESCO. Written over 120 meters of paper, The World, A Giant Poem is a socio-artistic project that aims to enable people to get in touch with their creative side.

According to Arenas, “Most of what we learn in school is very scientific. There is very little space for creativity. Through this, I hope to get more people to appreciate the importance of their creative side!”

The project came about when Arenas was working on his Doctoral course in Finland where he studied the implications of poetry on cultural development of societies. As a result of these studies and his creative pursuits, this project was born four years ago as a way to promote world peace through poems and prose.

To date, the project has travelled to over 32 cities around the world including USA, Spain and Italy. The event in Kuala Lumpur was aptly titled, “Kuala Lumpur, A Giant Poem.”

According to Dr. Choong Yeow Wei, President and CEO of HELP College of Arts and Technology, “In HELP’s 25 year history, we have always encouraged our students to go beyond the classroom, to be involved in culture. Bringing the Giant Poem program to Malaysia is inline with our mission to produce well rounded graduates.”

The third quarter of 2011 marks the return of Gatsby Dance Competition in its forth year running. Anticipation runs high, along with great expectations for the next rising star to repeat the feat of 2010-2011 Champion, Jackson Chua and 2009-2010 Champion, Alex of Poppin’ Rex.

The 4th GATSBY Dance Competition launch and press conference was held at The Bedroom, Pavilion KL. Addressing to members of the media, Mr. Tomohiro Shibuya, General Manager, Marketing Division of Mandom (M) Sdn. Bhd., expressed that the company is going all the way this year to support more young students who are passionate about dancing.

“Since we first introduced the GATSBY Dance Competition in 2008 for young students to channel their passion and creativity, we have recorded overwhelming response which kept growing season after season. This year as we intensify our talent search, we will tap into various on-ground channels and online media in efforts to extend the opportunity to even more students and help them realize their dream on the dance floor,” he added.

The regional contest organized by GATSBY is opened exclusively to students from eight countries - Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. On the local front, GATSBY will organize a series of auditions in major cities, namely at City Square Mall in Johor Bahru on 15th October, Traders Hotel Penang on 22nd October, Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu on 29th October and Boulevard Hotel, Mid Valley Kuala Lumpur on 5th November.

The Judges have spoken… Now for the Exhibition!

The 2011 Conscience Camera Award (CCA) competition drew to a close at midnight on Monday, 15th August 2011 with almost 500 photography entries received from all over Malaysia, most notably from Sarawak, Penang and Perak. It sure was amazing to see where some of the entries came from and how the ages of the participants ranged from teenagers to retirees. And how some participants sent in not just 1 or 2 entries, but even more than that…

Judging commenced within a week of the closing date, on a day that the five illustrious and expert judges agreed on to meet at BASF PETRONAS Chemicals’ headquarters at Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam. Having the opinion and feedback from the five judges, all of varying backgrounds and with their own styles and approaches to photography made the judging session a very interesting and exciting one!

What a round of judges it was - From Patrick Low who is a big fan of artistic and conceptual wedding photography to veteran CCA judge Mohd Azlan Mohamed Amin who modestly claimed to be ‘just an academician’, belying his many awards and exhibitions, Arthur Teng and Maxby Chan who are respected professional photographers in their own rights, to Dr Volker Seidl of BASF PETRONAS Chemical’s Business Management Division, the five brought their own wealth of diverse experiences and opinions to the table on judging day, leaving us in no doubt of their capabilities.

With that, the finalists have been earmarked and all that’s left now is to prepare for the CCA Photography Exhibition from Wednesday, 12th October to Sunday, 16th October at Fahrenheit88 Shopping Mall at Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

So, keep yourselves free on those five days and make your way to Fahrenheit88 to find out who the winners are and to take part in the exciting fun, games and activities happening over that period! Oh, did we mention that there will be some local celebrity appearances too? Check out the CCA Facebook page or the BASF PETRONAS Chemicals website at www.basf-petronas.com.my to find out more!

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals is a joint venture between BASF SE of Germany and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) of Malaysia. Incorporated in 1997, the company operates an integrated complex situated at the Gebeng Industrial Zone, Pahang. The range of chemicals produced by BASF PETRONAS Chemicals meet the growing demand in various industries including plastics, adhesives, lacquers, dyestuff, automobile and industrial coatings, paper, diapers, water treatment, textile and leather.

BASF PETRONAS Chemicals is committed to Sustainable Development where economic considerations do not take precedence over ecological and social needs. The Sunway–Lancaster Exchange students who were here for the Programme, together with an International Opportunities intern from Lancaster University who chaperoned the British students to Malaysia, were present on both the 12th and 13th of September to help the StART Society.

After facilitating an exciting business simulation game and planting 150 “Tengek Burung” trees at the Raja Musa Forest Reserve, the enthusiastic Lancaster University students were hard at work behind the scenes at the Dewan Sivik, Petaling Jaya for two days in preparation for the “I Believe” Benefit Concert organised by StART Society recently.

He is now the Programme Director for the underprivileged children who have been taught to express and articulate their feelings and emotions through music, fine arts, drama, dance, speech, writing and life skills.

Sunway University together with the assistance from Malaysian Care provided school-leavers with scholarships and are now pursuing their studies in a degree of their choice.

The story...

Did you know that in the 1950’s, jeans were occassionally banned in theaters, restaurants and schools in the US? This is because James Dean in the film “Rebel Without a Cause” had made denim the symbol of teenage or youth rebellion.

It started out in the 1800’s where workers wore jean or denim cloth because the material was strong and did not wear out easily. Leob Strauss (who later changed his name to Levi Strauss), a wholesale businessman supplying denim clothes to the workmen, joined forces with a Nevada tailor to patent the tailor’s idea of putting rivets on stress points of workman’s waist high overall.

Initially created for gold miners and cowboys, jeans today have lost their appeal as a workers fabric and is classed as a fashionable item to own. Jeans or denims are even acceptable for formal occasions like red carpet events.

Beauty Q & A

Q : All of my girlfriends are using masks as part of their beauty regime and I would like to try one myself. What types of mask are there and how do I choose a suitable one?

Q : Before applying the facial mask, I usually just wash my face with water. Is that the ideal method to prepare my face before applying the mask?

Q : After removing a facial mask, do I need to use any other beauty products to complete this routine?

Q : Facial masks always leave my skin feeling rejuvenated. How often can I use a facial mask to avoid harming my skin?

Q : I love putting on a facial mask at the end of a tiring day in college. When is the best time in a day to pamper my skin?

Q : Is there a special technique to apply and remove facial masks?

Q : My skin is a reflection of me...sensitive! Looking for beauty products is a hassle to say the least. Is it advisable to get a facial mask off the shelf or do one at home?

A : There are a lot of masks out there. From hydrating to whitening to mask that lifts. Choosing the right mask really depends on what your concerns are. If your concern is about uneven skin tone and fairness, you can try a mask like SKINZ UV White Instant Radiance Rinse-Off face mask. It is a whitening mask that rejuvenates and whitens your skin. It has natural AHA that helps remove dead skin cells & mineral clay that unclogs pores of impurities and excess oil.

A : Do cleanse your face with a foaming cleanser like SKINZ UV White Purifying Facial Foam and also tone your face before applying face mask. This is to ensure that your skin’s surface is thoroughly clean so that the mask will be able to work more effectively. Use alcohol free toner like SKINZ Infinite HydraPlenish Glacier Toner. It refreshes your skin without stripping its natural moisturizers.

A : I would recommend that you tone your face again after removing the facial mask. This is to prepare your skin for better absorption when you apply face moisturizer right after. For day moisturizer, do use a moisturizer that contains UV filters like SKINZ UV White Whitening Day Moisturizer SPF20PA++. It is a water based day cream that is quickly and effectively absorbed into the skin to whiten, protect and hydrate your skin. For night moisturizer, wake up to fairer and hydrated complexion with SKINZ UV White Intensive Night Moisturizer. It contains Alpha-Arbutin that penetrates deeper to boost the skin’s whitening process as you sleep.

A : It is recommended to use up to 3 times weekly. Make sure you leave a day or two before the next application. This is to ensure that your skin takes a little break.

A : It can be anytime but the best time would be at night when you are all relaxed and ready to go to bed. It’ll take only about 15-20mins to use SKINZ UV White Instant Radiance Rinse-Off face mask.

A : Using a face mask brush would be helpful. Removing SKINZ UV White Instant Radiance Rinse-Off face mask is simple. After 15-20mins when mask is dry, rinse face thoroughly with water & clean it completely with SKINZ Infinite HydraPlenish Toner.

A : It really depends on the individual. DIY masks are good because it’s natural & organic but it might not have ingredients or properties like Radiant-Gene Activator & mineral clay that would give you more instantaneous results.

Flawless skin begins with suitable products and maintaining the right beauty regime. To top your daily beauty routine, pamper your skin with some facial masks. Do not be afraid, the team from SKINZ has given the lowdown on these masks with added tips!

Sasi the DonOur Reggae Ambassador

I had the opportunity to record my first album in 2000. It wasn’t easy but I really worked my way through and approach this Indian label called Alai Osai. I told them I have confidence that I can do something. Alai Osai agreed to finance. Took about a year to record the album. I failed one semester, things were going haywire. I had to balance both. At that point itself, I started to establish my mindset on what is “Sasidharan” and “Sasi The Don”. When the album came out, it wasn’t an easy process. The album was called “Manitha Piravi”. The album got banned because my pronunciation in Tamil didn’t work apparently. But you know what kept me going? It was my non-Indian friends in University. They were very proud that I got an album. Even if it was a Tamil album and they did not understand a word, they were very proud.

So, it was during that process that Sasidharan the student became Sasi The Don.

Let’s be honest, reggae music is not everyone’s cup of tea but when your songs are played, unconsciously we bob our heads and sway to the tunes. Do you have a plan on how to keep this phenomenon up and rising?

When you do reggae music, you must understand that it is a genre that not everyone can do. It is not like picking up the guitar and calling five of your friends to start a band or deciding to become an R&B singer. It’s not like that. Reggae is different from any genre. It is the only genre that brings the world together. It is one genre that has no ego, no difference.

I realised this many years ago when someone actually told me that if you are doing reggae, you must know that reggae isn’t a very popular genre in the world. But I thought maybe that person was wrong, because everyone knows Bob Marley and not everyone is smoking weed to know Bob Marley. People know Bob Marley for his music and his message. So, somebody has got the context wrong.

For me to go out there and do reggae music, I have to understand that I’m not going to be another Bob Marley. Why? I’m not Jamaican. When you hear my first album, it did play in the Tamil Clubs. But, I needed to get better. It’s always a process of improving from point to point. Besides that, I came to realise that when you do a song,it also comes down to the naming of the song. Every point you put in the song is important.

Over the years, when I did Reggae music, I never once copied or imitated a Jamaican. And I think that is a very important rule I took onto myself because tomorrow, is a Jamaican going to listen to my music? Like what Apache Indian told me. “Doesn’t mean that to do reggae or rasta, you need to have dreadlocks!”. It’s not wrong to have dreads. But if you’re into music, make sure you establish that first.

So, it is very important for me that every song I did, I sat down and listen to it many many times. It is also important that every song I did, it just had to make a point and an impact, whether to the society or committee, I wanted to know I made an impact.

You took some time off work to keep a 365-day album journal which resulted in your latest album “Don’t Panic, It’s Just Music”. What were the most memorable experience and the most challenging moments during this journey?

The most memorable experience was traveling the world. I traveled to London twice, I was in Europe, I went to Hong Kong and India. I performed in a lot of places and the most memorable moment would be working with Maxi Priest. In this one year, so many things happened. I did not predict what was going to happen, nothing was planned. I just went with the flow.

The most memorable moment was pushing myself through this. At one point, I even wanted to give up because it was too much money being spent. I just saw money going out and I could not stop spending because if I did, I will have to put limits to my work. For me, I did not think of getting back the money. If money has to come, it will come.

Most of us live by certain principles and quotes. Is there a particular saying that gets you through each day?

People always complaint “Bro, no one is helping me, nobody is doing this or that for me”. I think it happens in everyone’s life. Nothing is going to come to your door step just because you are born to someone rich or influencial. No way! It’s all about your determination.

We know getting out of our comfort zone is always a challenge. So take us through the transformation of Sasidharan to Sasi The Don.

Everything started exactly in 1999. I was a student in University Malaya (UM) at that time and being a student, I always wanted to be different from the rest of my mates. Besides studying in the same university, the one thing that made all of us come together was that we all were there to study. But I was just very curious and mischievous.

As you know, I had interest in music. I was already a deejay before that. I used to play in clubs when I was studying in MARA Sains Kuantan. And from then, when I got into UM, I knew that I was different from my batch mates. During the weekends, everyone wanted to go back home, I went to work. I always kept myself busy. From that point, as I was moving from step to step. I wanted to brand myself in the context that people will actually understand me right from my name.

I thought of many names, you can never imagine (laughs!). Very funny right. I grew up listening to Dr. Alban. My school mates in St. Johns will still remember, I used to call myself Dr. Asid, because if you see my name, Sasidharan, the word ‘asid’ is in there. Then one part, I called myself M²C...I brought maths into it! (laughter in the room!). M²C means Malaysian Emcee. I was changing names every week until I came to the point I thought I had to lock down a name and I always wanted to keep my name. I believe that, if you had your real name at least you know that it’s you. Your family knows it’s you. It’s very very important. So, I kept my real name and went very creative about it.

Role Models behind The DonRole Models behind The Don1. Tun Dr. Mahathir2. Tony Fernandez3. Azran Osman Rani4. Dr. Alban

The one tagline that I have in my life that has kept me going to face my challenges, to face people who didn’t believe in me is “You have to make it happen”. I have to make people listen, understand and talk to me because nobody is going to make it happen but me. And this happens in any level of society. I think the most important thing is people should stop complaining and look at how we can maximize each other when we are together.

They say, “When you dream alone, it’s just a dream but when you dream together, it is a reality”

When it comes to music, talent and passion should go hand in hand. Once you have that, what is the next step in becoming a recording artiste?

You know what’s the most important thing when you have talent and passion? Luck! But for some people, why they are stuck where they are...they did not give themselves the opportunity to educate themselves about what is next. So when you do music, a lot of people don’t know how to go about it because they don’t understand the business. They think to do music is to record an album, work with the record label and release! Do you know why we don’t hear from most of the successful international artistes of the 90’s today? It’s because they didn’t understand the business.

They were not ready for the music transformation from cassettes to iTunes, and they don’t know how to manage piracy. One of the most important things when you want to go all out for something...understand the business. And knowledge is not about going to college or university only. Today, knowledge is about talking to people with experience and doing online research about things you are curious about. Having talent...everyone has talent but not everyone has the passion!

As the festival of lights is approaching, tell us the one thing that has not changed for you since your childhood during this auspicious celebration.

Every Deepavali eve, I will be at my parents’ place. I make it a point that on Deepavali morning, I must wake up at home, to my parents. This has never changed. I have always made the experience during Deepavali better for my family from year to year because that is what they have done for me. Ever since I was a kid. You know, from buying for me t-shirts, branded KIKO Puma, Adidas, Reebok...they just made my lifestyle better. From a little kid to a teenager. And as an adult, I make their experience better for them. You know, like what I could give back to the family, something. Just to see them happy.

The other fun thing that has not changed is the common friends. For me, friends are very important and I have a lot of friends. I always make sure my friends come to my place on the eve of Deepavali for dinner and have a good time. I do see the change in respect...my childhood friends suddenly have fear talking to me (Laughs!)

For me, Deepavali is the point where I forget about myself. Sasi The Don doesn’t exist. If you see me on TV, that’s what I’m doing there. I would eat, I would maybe accidentally spill a glass of sirap, I might break a glass at your house. It’s just me being the real me during the festive season.

Be it through greeting cards, text messages or Facebook, greetings never fail to brighten up any occasion. What is your Deepavali shout out to all our Campus Plus readers?

Thank God you’re alive for Deepavali this year. Appreciate your family, invite your friends in, be happy that you are celebrating Deepavali in Malaysia and as a message to all Malaysians, in any form of festivity, never look at Malaysia as a country you live in. Look at Malaysia as your motherland. And I think it’s great that we have a country so beautiful.Appreciate it, make the best out of it, love your country!

Overwhelming success at Celcom consumer launch for the

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1AMD announced the next

generation in mainstream consumer computing with the availability of the new high-performance AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) in Malaysia. Enabling truly immersive computing experiences in consumer notebooks and desktops, the AMD A-Series APUs enables brilliant HD graphics with supercomputer-like performance and over 10.5 hours of battery life.

“The A-series APU provides brilliant high definition computing, HD graphics and AMD AllDay battery life ,” said Alex Tan, country manager, AMD Malaysia.

To meet the consumers’ needs where multitasking, vivid graphics, life like games and ultimate multimedia performance are required, the AMD A-Series APUs combines up to four x86 CPU cores with powerful DirectX11-capable discrete-level graphics and up to 400 Radeon cores along with dedicated HD video processing on a single chip.

The AMD A-Series APUs (previously codenamed “Llano”) are now available in a selection of AMD Fusion-based desktops and notebooks including Acer, ASUS, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Sony, Toshiba and others.

Kaspersky Lab marked another milestone in their digital protection

with the introduction of an innovative hybrid protection software combining the power of cloud computing and pc. The new hybrid software provides maximum security and convenience in the brands upcoming 2012 version of its flagship product - Kaspersky Antivirus (KAV) and Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS).

Cloud technology has improved protection against spam as databases located in the cloud provide templates for new spam emails in real time. This helps Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 to quickly adapt to ever-changing spammer tactics and quickly provide protective measures.

“Kaspersky Lab experts have found that attacks launched using Internet browsers had skyrocketed significantly from 23,700,000 in 2007 to 580,000,000 attacks in 2010 . This analysis reminds us that as much we rely on the Internet, the anti-virus software that we are using has to be powerful, updated and fast enough to detect any malwares or irregularities to stay a step ahead of cyber criminals,” said Mr. Jimmy Fong, Channel Sales Director, SEA, Kaspersky Lab.

42nd Pictures, under the lead of director Yasu Tanaka and producer Bea Tanaka will showcase their latest production, a tele-movie titled “Lari, Sayang, Lari” on ASTRO Prima.

‘Lari Sayang Lari” is a romance-cum-thriller story that starts with pair of star-crossed lovers, Hakimi & Surina who come from opposite ends of the economic divide. Hakimi is from the other side of the track, while Surina is from a well to do family.

Both are in love with each other but are forced to be apart not just due to their economic standing, but something more sinister. One that threatens Hakimi - He has to run for his life as he is suspected of murdering Radzi, Surina’s future fiancé in a marriage arranged by her family.

The onus is now on him to find a way to prove his innocence. Besides having to be on the run and figure out who framed him, complicating things are a pair of detectives, Jefri and assistant Rick, who are hot on Hakimi’s heels. Jefri is more than a detective for hire as he is Surina’s uncle, making the capture and apprehension of Hakimi a personal mission.

Idris, Surina’s father on the other hand, is always busy with work. Since Surina’s mother passing, he has gone on to remarry. His second wife, Roslina, comes in tow with a daughter of her own, Lyana, and together, they are quietly but definitely on the move to weave themselves into Idris’ family with very materialistic intents.

What happens next? How did Hakimi finally get caught? How well does Roslina succesfully destroy Idris’s family? What does Surina, faced with a lover on the run and enemies at home, do to cope with all this? More importantly, is the love between Surina and Hakimi strong enough to survive even though they are separated?

Lari Sayang Lari will feature the best of two worlds - A star studded cast of Alif Satar (Hakimi) from the Dendam and Suria di Cordoba drama series, and 17 yr old Erin Malek (Surina) from Tentang Bulan and Congkak, and the best in movie production as the movie’s post production was done with state of the art technology in Japan.

Imagine if you could live someone else’s life; Mitch Planko and Dave Lockwood (Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman) are best friends. While Dave is an overworked lawyer, husband and father of three, Mitch has remained a single, quasi-employed man-child who has never met a responsibility he liked. After a drunk night out, they somehow wake up in each other’s bodies. Despite the freedom from their normal routines and habits, the guys soon discover that each other’s lives aren’t as rosy as they thought. Adding to the comic is Dave’s sexy legal associate, Sabrina McArdle (Olivia Wilde) and Mitch’s estranged father, Mitch Sr. (Alan Arkin), as they both race to get things back to normal.

When Sally gives in to her curiosity, she opens a gateway into a hellish underworld from which beady-eyed, sharp-clawed monsters emerge, small in size but endless in number. Confronted with the horror, Sally desperately tries to warn the whole house, but unfortunately, no one believes her.

Hugh Jackman (of X-Men, Wolverine fame) returns to the big screen as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pounds, 8-foot-tall steel robots made their entry into the boxing ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, he earns just enough piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal, to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a potential championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

The ThingIn Cinemas 13 October 2011

This is a remake of the horror blockbuster. Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) travels to the desolate Antartica region for the expedition of her lifetime. At the research site, together with a Norweigian scientific team, they discover an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, it is up to the combined efforts of everyone to stop it as it kills all humans one at a time. Further making it difficult is the aliens ability to mimic anything it touches. The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film of the same name.

Album Reviews

The first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, is scheduled to release her fifth album, “Stronger”, on the 24th of October. According to Ms. Clarkson, the entire album is about empowerment and strength. “I love singing songs like that. I love having attitude. I love raining on boys’ parades!” Kelly said in a Livestream chat session. The album includes 13 new songs with lead single ‘Mr Know It All’ on top of the list.

The wait is now over for Joe Jonas’ solo debut “Fastlife”. The 21-year-old Jonas is giving the solo option a shot, he explained the title of the album, “I think my life has been so crazy busy for the past year and a half, and I kind of wanted to show people a little bit more of what my life is about.” Sounding like a cross between Chris Brown and Justin Timberlake, “Fastlife” is led by the single “See No More” with contributions from Brian Kennedy, Chris Brown and more.

After a three year sabbatical, Evanescence went back into the studio for their third album titled, “Evanescence”. Although the band members have changed several times, the opener and first single, ‘What You Want’, shows the band being able to carry on that same unique Evanescence’s style they had in their previous releases. In an interview with MTV news, Amy Lee (vocalist) said, “It’s about freedom — that’s definitely a constant theme on the record.” Evanescence is an overall well-thought-out album showcasing the soothing, yet haunting and powerful voice of Amy Lee.

Meditation12 years ago, if you said you did meditation, people would look at you

with a “You’re what?” expression. 12 years on, if you said you do the same thing, chances are, the person listening will go “Oh? Really? What kind?”.

Still, today, anyone from scientists and doctors prescribing healthy options for a better life right up to the average clubber joe next door all know one thing – meditation is good for us. that shit after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.
