Motorsport at the PalaceRaises Over £3,000 forLocal CharitiesMotorsport at the Palace is above all a
community event and the organisers arekeen to ensure it provides a lasting
benefit to local residents. As such,
competitors at the 2010 event were asked
to donate a minimum £10 in support of St.
Christopher’s Hospice and the Royal
London Society for the Blind, ultimately
raising £3,150, split between the two
charities. Both charities will again be the
beneficiaries of the 2011 event.
Commenting on this year’s event,Paul
Fennelly, Senior Fundraising Manager at
St Christopher’s Hospice said:“Thank you
very much for supporting St Christopher’s
Hospice.The team all thoroughly enjoyed
itand forme itwas a great tripdown
memory lane with all the beautiful old
cars there.”
Alternative-Fuelled CarsBack on the Bill in 2011
It’s fair to say we were quite taken aback
at the stunning performance of the Tesla
electric powered cars at this year’s event.
The sleek black and white machines put
some real pressure on the traditionally-
fuelled vehicles, demonstrating that you
don’t need spark plugs and ignition coils
to set pulses racing.
We’re pleased to announce that next
year’s event will see even more hybrid
vehicles competing for fastest time of the
day in their own unique class. And while
we expect to see some impressive cars
lining up alongside them, our money isstill on the Teslas to bring home the
bacon, albeit in near total silence!
Why Not Leave the Carat Home for Next Year’sEvent?
We’re very lucky that Crystal Palace is
served by an excellent public transport
network that includes a major bus
terminal and two overland rail stations
(Crystal Palace and Gipsy Hill). Of last
year’s 5,000+ visitors, approximately two
thirds made use of these excellent
transport links, getting to and from the
park with minimum fuss or hassle.
Motorsport at the Palace does provide
car parking facilities for visitors, but we’d
certainly recommend using public
transport wherever possible. Gypsy Hill
train station is just a ten minute walk
from the park and trains run directly from
Victoria station two or three times an
hour. Crystal Palace train station is even
closer (in fact, its main access route
crosses a section of the old race track),
while the bus station outside the park
forms one of the main south-London
terminals. Wherever you’re coming from,
there should be a quick and relatively
inexpensive public transport option
available that will certainly beat sitting in
a traffic jam for two hours!
MayorofBromley endorses Motorsport in the Palace
The Mayor of Bromley has added his support tonext year’sMotorsportat thePalace, praisingthe value the event brings to thelocal communityandbusinessesalike. Commenting on last May’sevent, TheMayor of Bromley, Cllr GeorgeTaylor said:“Motorsport at Crystal Palaceexemplifies thekind of family-orientated event that
works sowell inour Capital’s
parks.Theorganisersput ona great show that not only entertained
thousands of spectators, butalsobrought people into theboroughand gavea boost to local businesses. We’re certainly lookingforward to next year’s event, whichI’m surewill build on this year’s success andgive residents another bank holiday to remember.”
