2 2 Product Overview
The Xerox® Dual-Mode Sheet Feeder (BSFEx) transports media from up to two stack locations (or via a bypass transport) to a downstream finishing device. The media is acquired from one of three different sources:
• Top Tray Feeder • High Pile Feeder • Bypass
Media is delivered center-registered to a downstream device.
The BSFEx operates in the following three modes:
• In-line: Physically connected to the paper path. Transports sheets generated from the Nuvera, iGen, and Color Press printers to a downstream device.
• Off-line - Attached: Physically connected to the paper path. Uses the High Pile Feeder and Top Tray Feeder to feed sheets to a downstream device.
• Off-line - Unattached: Physically disconnected from the paper path. Uses the High Pile Feeder and Top Tray Feeder to feed sheets to a downstream device.
Off-line Mode - Attached The printer’s stacker cart is used to transport the stack to the BSFEx and slides into the BSFEx to allow the stack to be transferred. See 2-9 for a complete list of supported Printer Stacker Cart Kits.
Off-line Mode - Unattached The printer’s stacker cart is used to transport the stack to the BSFEx and slides into the BSFEx to allow the stack to be transferred. See 2-9 for a complete list of supported Printer Stacker Cart Kits.
Running: 760 W - 2580 BTU/hr. - 1023 VA Standby: 160W - 546 BTU/hr. - 200 VA
Line Cord and Plug • US:
UL Listed, minimum length 1.5m, maximum length 4.5m, 3-conductor 16 AWG rated minimum 300V, 105 °C, Type SJT or SJTO or SJTOO or SJTOW flexible cord. One end terminates in parallel-blade NEMA 5-15P grounding-type attachment plug, the other end in an IEC60320 C13 molded on grounding type appliance coupler.
• Europe: Harmonized "HAR" Continental European 10 Amp flexible cord, Type H05VV-F, 3 conductor minimum 1 mm2.
Environmental Requirements Environment BSFEx
Temperature 50 – 90° F (10 – 35°C)
Humidity 40 – 85% RH
Heat Emission Standby – 546 BTU/hr Run – 2580 BTU/hr
The BSFEx installation is performed by a C.P. Bourg service technician and takes four hours. Customer training takes an additional four hours.
Optional Equipment The following additional options are available for the BSFEx:
• Purge/Manual Feed Tray (IFB): This option diverts good sheets from the BSFEx to the purge tray when the system detects a problem (like a jam) downstream, so that those sheets could still be used. It also allows single-sheet feeding to the downstream device. The Purge/Manual Feed Tray (IFB) is mandatory when connecting a BSFEx to a BCMEx.
• Docking Plates including Jacks • Internal Barcode Scanners • Hand-held Barcode Scanner enabling IntegratedPLUS Finishing Solution for
Booklets workflow to be utilized both in-line and off-line (Xerox Color 800/1000 Press v2.2 System Software release only)
• Printer Stacker Carts

Floor Load The assumed caster loading for each of the off-line elevator device casters should be 25% of the total weight of the Xerox® Dual-Mode BSFEx.
Floor Level The floor must be level to within 2 degrees.
Compatibility Carts from the following printers are compatible with the BSFEx:
• iGen • Nuvera (DS3500) • Nuvera Production Stacker and Media Cart • DS5000 • DC7000/8000/8080 Gradco HCS • 4112/4127 Copier/Printer • 700i/700/770 Digital Color Press • Color 800/1000 Press • D110/D125 Copier/Printer • Color 8250 Production Printer
All Xerox and non-Xerox carts can be used interchangeably with the BSFEx.
Limitations • If the customer wants to use the kit to stack to the iGen cart and then put the
iGen cart into the BSFEx, two iGen Stacker NVM items, 11531 Stacker Height Range Check, and 12464 Elevator Recalibration Flag, need to be changed when the operator switches between carts with the kit and carts without the kit. This procedure only takes 5 minutes but needs to be done manually.
• With non-Bourg Devices downstream, the GUI on the BSFEx is needed. With Bourg devices downstream of the BSFEx, the GUI on the BSFEx is not needed and the operator must be familiar with the procedure for disabling the GUI. (The GUI downstream becomes the master GUI). The procedure to enable or disable the GUI only takes 15 minutes but must be done to avoid command problems.
• Barcodes can be scanned only on the trail edge of the sheet when using the optional internal Barcode Scanner in the High Pile Feeder. However, barcodes can be scanned on the lead edge, trail edge, or middle of the sheet when using the optional internal Barcode Scanner in the Top Tray Feeder.
• For the Xerox Color 800/1000 Press, Xerox 4112/4127 Copier/Printer, Xerox 700/700i/770 Digital Color Press, or the Xerox D110/D125 Copier/Printer carts, the operator is required to select a button on the User Interface every time the cart is inserted into the Feeder to notify the Feeder of the type of cart being used. This action is not required for other cart types.
• The 26” Stacker Cart is not compatible with a 22.5” iGen Stacker. • The iGen4 Stacker Cart Module/ Wedge Kit used to enable Large Paper Printing is
not supported. • Problems may occur when running covers with cutouts. Any cover stock that
includes cutouts must be tested to validate the potential for successful output.
System Dependencies and Prerequisites The BSFEx for iGen can be re-installed on a Nuvera if required at a future date. A BSFEx configured for Nuvera can be re-installed on an iGen if desired at a future date, using an optional Jacks kit.

4 4 Appendix A Floor Loading Certification Floor loading certification and authorization for delivery
Dear Customer,
It is critical that the installation site and delivery route within the customer building are capable of supporting the weight of the Xerox iGen Press and any additional feeders, stackers and Xerox or third party in-line finishers that will be attached to the press. Refer to the Solutions Planning Guide supplied by your local Xerox Sales Analyst for the weight and size specifications of those in-line finishing devices included with the Xerox iGen Press. For the floor loading specifications of the individual Xerox iGen Press modules, refer to Table B-1, Module Floor Loading, in Appendix B of the Installation Planning Guide. Xerox strongly suggests a structural engineer conduct an on-site inspection to certify that the floor load bearing range will safely support the Xerox iGen Press, its modules, and any in-line finishing devices (both the delivery route and the installation site.) In addition, we require the owner of the building in which the Xerox iGen Press installation will occur to sign this document in order to signify that the disclaimer of liability set forth below is acceptable to such building owner.
Disclaimer of Liability: Xerox Corporation and/or parties associated with the delivery and installation of the Xerox iGen Press, shall not be liable and do not assume any responsibility for any type of damage to tangible property occurring during the delivery or installation of the Xerox iGen Press system which is caused by the inability of your floors to support the weight of such equipment.
