The school is hoping that we have a huge turnout, with all proceeds collected from the $2 door entry donation going to the relief fund. The movie is a family movie that will be enjoyed by all titled ‘The Croods’. The school has an expectation that all children and guests be ready to start the film at 6pm. The doors will open at 5.30pm with the canteen operating. It is recommended that children bring a pillow to sit on and we encourage as many parents and younger brothers and sisters to come along. If any parent sends their child or children with an older sibling, please be aware that the school expects all persons to remain in the auditorium for the duration of the film. The film will have and intermission with an expected finishing time of 8.00pm No child will be allowed to leave the school auditorium without an adult. Lindsay Munro, Luke D’Elboux, Nicola Carter and Rebekah Lazarou travelled with Mrs Day down to Darling Harbour and presented speeches to over 600 members of the Aboriginal Education Directorate and associates. They were highly commended for the quality of their presentations and represented Cowra Public School with great pride. A huge thank you goes to the students and Mrs Day for their efforts. This week has also seen two Cowra Public School boys representing Western region at the State Cricket Championships being held in Bathurst. Sam Long and Brodie Graham have both performed well during the 3 day competition with the Western team being successful with a win over Broken Hill and very close games against Mackillop and Polding. Today our Year 2 children enjoyed an excursion to the Cowra Visitors Centre. This excursion was linked to the HSIE unit being investigated this term The children have been very excited about this half day trip which will include a review of early days in Cowra, and the POW involvement in Cowra’s history. At this time of year we start to make arrangements for the following year student leadership team. This week we conducted the pre- selection of the roles for Captain and Vice–Captain. Joshua Pokoney, Lindsay Munro, Luke Kinsey and Jack Drurey are the boys chosen to proceed through to give speeches while the girls selected included Crystal Holmes, Brianna Hindmarch, Zoe Dunlop and Brooke Graham. We wish the best to these students in preparation of their speeches and feel confident with gaining great student leadership from the group. The students will deliver their speeches at 9.10am next Monday. Next week the school commences the Learn to Swim school which is held over two weeks. Mr Lewis is once again coordinating the lessons. We remind all students that they need to have their towel and swimmers each day and parents are reminded to provide sunscreen and a rash shirt or equivalent for protection against the sun. Learning to swim is vital to all country kids as access to rivers and pools is an everyday occurrence. The school is delighted to announce that Mrs Parker will be with us till the end of the year. Mrs Parker has been an outstanding teacher in Stage 2 and kindly came in due to Mrs Cobcroft having to take time away from the school due to family illness. Mrs Parker is an experienced teacher who provides the children with a wealth of knowledge in her lessons. Mr Murray will absent from our school for a short period of time as he has been seconded by the Regional Aboriginal Team to fill the School Education Officer position in Bourke. This was a very quick arrangement with little notice to our school prior to his commencement in the position. Miss Hyde will be replacing Mr Murray and having worked with M3 before will be comfortable knowing the children well. We look forward to seeing everyone at the movies tonight. BUUNJI ABORIGINAL
CONFERENCE
This week we were very honoured to have
two of our students invited to speak at the
2013 Buunji Aboriginal Conference in
Sydney. Nicola Carter and Lindsay Munro
were two of only six students who were
invited to present their speech from the
NAIDOC Public Speaking Competition
which was held earlier this year. They
presented their speech on the History of
the Yirrkali Bark Petitions to a packed
audience of over 600 people at the
Sydney Conference and Convention
Centre on Wednesday.
Presented to the audience by author Anita
Heiss, Nicola and Lindsay proved to once
again be exceptional representatives of
Cowra Public School. Delegates to the
conference commented on their poise
and confidence and on how well they
understood the content and ramifications
of their topic. Cowra Public School has
once again proved to be outstanding in its
endeavours.
