We also anticipate seeing an increase in the next several days for areas in Western Kansas due to the new testing strategies implemented. There may be delays with those county numbers being reflected in KDHE’s total due to the additional time it’s taking to enter the lab reports.

Please note, there has been a significant increase today due to KDHE not receiving lab reports from a private lab, which affected Lyon County numbers, along with
several other counties. We also anticipate seeing an increase in the next several days

Situation Overview KDHE continues to closely monitor an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID–19). The outbreak first started in Wuhan, China, but cases have been identified around the world including in the United States. The first case in the United States was announced January 21, 2020.
Kansas announced its first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in a Johnson County woman under the age of 50. It was announced Saturday, March 7 at a press conference. As of today, the patient is doing well.
KDHE Response Activities Other labs in the state are beginning to test for COVID-19. These labs are asked to send all
results to KDHE. KDHE will continue reporting/announcing results from these labs for Kansas cases.
KDHE will update its website with the number of positive and negative tests daily, Monday — Friday by 5 p.m. Any further presumptive positive cases will be announced via press release moving forward.
KDHE is no longer reporting Persons Under Investigations as this is no longer feasible.

Situation Overview
KDHE continues to closely monitor an outbreak of a respiratory illness caused by a novel
coronavirus named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID–19). The outbreak first started in Wuhan,
China, but cases have been identified around the world including in the United States. The first case
in the United States was announced January 21, 2020. As of 4:30 p.m. on March 6, Kansas
currently has no confirmed cases of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus and two persons currently under
investigation (PUI). Eleven previous PUIs have tested negative for COVID-19. State health officials
continue to work with CDC and other health agencies to learn more about this virus.

• The Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories (KHEL) remains ready to test with the CDC/
FDA-authorized Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) kits. At this point, KHEL has adequate
capacity to support the needs of Kansas.
