Helpful Tips on Keeping a Portfolio If you already have a professional portfolio there is no need to maintain a separate one.

Creating a portfolio is the simplest way of keeping everything together. It will:

• help you know what you still need to complete

• bring clarity to your discussions with your Confirmer

• Help you be prepared if the NMC need to see your supporting evidence to verify the declarations you have made in your application

It must demonstrate:

• outcomes of your learning (knowledge/skills)

• how you have applied your knowledge and skills in the workplace

• your competence and confidence as a nurse or midwife registered with the NMC

Third Party Confirmation

Confirming Evidence in the Portfolio

Confirmation increases professionalism by making registrants more accountable for their performance and improvement. It also encourages those registrants who work in isolation from other colleagues to discuss their professional development and revalidation with a third party.

Confirmation in practice

The NMC requires:

• A declaration that the nurse or midwife has demonstrated to an appropriate third party that they have complied with the revalidation requirements using the online form

• The Confirmer must provide their name, NMC Pin or other professional identification number (where relevant), email, professional address and postcode of the appropriate third party.

Group Exercise Consider the two cases studies submitted in a portfolio and decide:

• Has the registrant completed the requirements for revalidation?

• Are the reflections linked to the Code?

• What feedback would you provide?
