COVER STORY July 2015/www.co-opliving.com 13 Best In Show Alex Griffin of Harrogate, Tenn. Fourth Grade At right, Alex’s depiction of himself at the tractor show, part of the Grainger County Tomato Festival. ‘My Favorite Vacation!’ T o a youngster, school’s ending throws wide the door on fun times to come: summer’s three-month potential stretches out beyond a youthful imagination’s horizons. Central to summer fun is the annual vacation, that monu- mental effort from which so much family legend and lore are formed. In this year’s annual Cooperative Living Youth Art Contest, our young creative minds were asked to portray visual depictions of the theme, “My Favorite Vacation.” The contest was open to children in kindergarten through grade 5. Our call for entries generated more than 500 submissions from across Virginia and several neighboring states. In this 13th-annual contest, we were amused and amazed at the variety and depth of creative talent reflected in the youthful artwork. Choosing winners was no easy task. A panel of judges reviewed all qualifying entries, cast votes for their favorites, and after several rounds of judging, winners were determined. The results are shown on the following pages. Congratulations to all whose work was selected in the judging process. And again this year, we want to thank all the young artists who sent in your work for judging. YOU’RE ALL WINNERS!
