Operational Metrics: How well do the analyses: Address enemy’s elements of national power systems? Identify effects that will influence decision making? Determine how to effect what the enemy values most?

Operational Net Assessment:

“. . . . a continuous and collaborative process that provides a coherent knowledge base about ourselves, the adversary, how the adversary views us, and the environment.”

Effects-Based Operations:

“. . . . focuses on obtaining a desired strategic objective by producing effects through the application of the full range of military and non-military capabilities”

“Knowledge is a key characteristic of future joint operations and a critical attribute for rapid decisive operations.”

Beyond the ExperimentBeyond the Experiment SONAT shows ‘one’ way to assemble agents and

applications exploiting ontologies, data and knowledge bases to provide a specific type of operational support.

DAML Experiment is contributing to a growing inventory of resources usable by the broader semantic web community Ontologies Knowledge bases User Interfaces Agents & applications Development tools

DAML Experiment agents and applications use semantics and instance data in the ontologies, but are not embedded within the knowledge base . . . . Data sources / knowledge bases maintained by owner Can be used for entirely different applications
