Passive Voice
Here is a brief review of the form and function of the passive voice. Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. Example: My car was stolen. Form of Passive:
When rewriting active sentences in passive voice, note the following:
1 The object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence.
2 The finite form of the verb is changed (to be + past participle).
3 The subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence. It is introduced by by (ex. by me). (Be careful: the pronoun has to be me, you, him, her, it, us, them.) It can also be dropped if it is not important to know who did the action. (ex. The car was washed.)
