Regulation 25 (2) of Regulation BOWEC has stipulate that site safety supervisor must be a person who is competent to perform the duties specified in sub-regulation (3) and (4), and have qualifications approved by the Chief Inspector and working experience of at least for two years as a construction site foreman. Chief Inspector is Director General of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health. With regard to the competency of a site safety supervisor, Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) had decided that site safety supervisor must be a person who has successfully completed a site safety supervisor course carried out by the instructor registered with DOSH, and passed the examination conducted by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) or institution accredited by DOSH.

We aimed to assist the government in developing the potential of our construction industry by providing competency training for Site Safety Supervisor (SSS). It also to fulfil the requirement as state in Regulation 1986

under BOWEC.

Mahayuddin Abdullah is a Register Safety Officer with DOSH. He holds a Master Degree in Industrial Safety from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi and now was doing his PhD in Environment Studies and Policy at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), KL. He also involves in various universities in development of OSH and Environmental Syllabus and programs such as i) Expert Panel Member for University Technology Petronas (UTP) for review the curriculum for MSc Process Safety program – 2015, ii) Expert Panel workshop on Processsafety certification development programfor University Technology Petronas UTP– 2014, iii) Industrial Expert panel onBachelor Degree in OSH program forUniversity Industry Selangor (UNISEL) –2014, iv) Industrial sharing practice withAcademician Program with UniversityKebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) – 2015, v)Industrial Panel advisor with UniversityScience Malaysia (USM).
