Students will explore consequences of decades of war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the more recent conflicts in Syria and Egypt in terms of economic, political, health, education, and human rights for women. The course will also examine the other side of the issue, studying the active roles that women have played in recent conflicts: ranging from women’s participation in the Palestinian Intifada to the rise of female terrorism to women’s roles in the military in Jordan and Tunisia.
