County-to-County Migration

The following county-to-county migration flow estimates are based on the 2015 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates. The ACS program combines yearly datasets from 2011 through 2015 to increase the sample size and provide reliable estimates for smaller areas. For this reason, some figures, especially areas with smaller populations, may be less reliable. While the data is collected over a five-year span, the estimates provided represent one year of migration.

The report also includes additional characteristics related to age, race and Hispanic origin. The universe for all characteristics is 1 year and older. Due to suppression, some characteristic data may not sum to other totals.

The ACS is conducted on U.S. households. As such, the dataset includes persons that migrate from other countries to the United States but not migrants to foreign countries. International in-migrants are not included in net migration calculations.
