WELCOME TO THE JACKSON STREET CHURCH OF

CHRIST

PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES

Psalm 147:1-5 Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God;

For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. The LORD builds up

Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the

brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. 4 He counts the number of

the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in

power; His understanding is infinite.

MATH

A. CONTROVERSY OVER COMMON CORE (MATH).

B. WE ARE GOING TO LEARN HOW TO COUNT GOD’S WAY

Page 7: counting god’s way

I. WE MUST COUNT OTHERS

AS BETTER THAN OURSELF

Page 8: counting god’s way

I. COUNT OTHERS BETTER THAN SELF

A. JESUS’ EXAMPLE Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, {6} who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, {7} but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. {8} And being found in appearance as a man, He hum bled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

I. COUNT OTHERS BETTER THAN SELF

B. SEEK THE THINGS OF CHRIST Philippians 2:19-21 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. {20} For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. {21} For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.

C. INTEREST OF OTHERS - Philippians 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. {4} Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Page 10: counting god’s way

II. WE MUST COUNT WHAT

WAS GAIN AS LOSS NOW

Page 11: counting god’s way

II. COUNT WHAT WAS GAIN, LOSS

A. Philippians 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. {8} Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ

B. TREASURE IN A FIELD Matthew 13:44 "Again , the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Page 12: counting god’s way

II. COUNT WHAT WAS GAIN, LOSS

C. PEARL OF GREAT PRICE Matthew 13:45-46 "Again , the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, {46} "who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

D. BODIES LIVING SACRIFICE Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you there fore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. {2} And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

III. WE MUST COUNT OUR THOUGHTS AS

SUPREMELY IMPORTANT OUR

THOUGHTS CONTROL OUR LIVES

Page 14: counting god’s way

III. COUNT OUR THOUGHTS IMPORTANT

A. Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things.

B. Genesis 6:5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Page 15: counting god’s way

III. COUNT OUR THOUGHTS IMPORTANT

C. 1 Chronicles 28:9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a will ing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

D. Jeremiah 6:19 Hear, O earth! Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people; The fruit of their thoughts, Because they have not heeded My words, Nor My law, but rejected it.

Page 16: counting god’s way

III. COUNT OUR THOUGHTS IMPORTANT

E. Romans 2:15 who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)

F. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Page 17: counting god’s way

III. COUNT OUR THOUGHTS IMPORTANT

G. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ

Page 18: counting god’s way

IV. WE MUST COUNT HEAVEN AS OUR HOME

Page 19: counting god’s way

IV. COUNT HEAVEN AS HOMEA. Philippians 3:17-21 Brethren, join in following my

example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. {18} For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: {19} whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame; who set their mind on earthly things. {20} For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, {21} who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Page 20: counting god’s way

COUNT HEAVEN AS HOMEB. PRESS TOWARD GOAL Ph11ippians 3:12-15 Not

that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. {13} Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, {14} I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. {15} Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

Page 21: counting god’s way

COUNT HEAVEN AS HOMEC. SEEK KINGDOM Luke 12:31-34 "But seek

the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. {32} "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. {33} "Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. {34} "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
