Melbourne 2006 was Scotland’s most successful Games ever and certainly one of my own proudest moments in sport, as part of the team management. It was a Games where everything that could go right, did go right and when athletes took every opportunity to excel within a well prepared team. Everyone wanted to feature on the medal table. CGS has adopted the same rigorous planning and preparation for Delhi 2010 supported by a number of our key partners - the 17 governing bodies of sport, sportscotland and their institute network, as its high performance arm. I would like to thank them all for their hard work and support preparing the athletes and releasing staff to go to the Games, to ensure that first class support continues right through to performance. I would also like to thank our commercial partners in Clydesdale Bank and Emirates Airline, both on board for their second successive Games. We truly value their support, along with that of the Leadership Trust for their excellent team management training. As has been widely reported, Delhi is facing many challenges getting ready to host the Games. CGS has been working hard over the last four years to ensure we are fully prepared and able to minimise the impact of this on our team, but clearly we are heading into an environment we have not had to face before. Coupled with the date clash with a number of London 2012 Olympic qualification events, this will undoubtedly affect our medal winning potential. However we are confident we have selected a strong, talented and well prepared Team Scotland for the 2010 Commonwealth Games who I am sure will rise to the challenges that lie ahead and do Scotland proud.
Michael Cavanagh, Chairman, Commonwealth Games Scotland
As Chef de Mission for Team Scotland, I would like to congratuate all the athletes on their selection. I’m very excited about the quality of the team with its mix of youth and experience. Our focus has been on having the best prepared team we can be and now our role is to bring all sports and athletes together as ‘One Team’. This has been one of the strengths of Team Scotland in the past and again will be a vital factor in our success for these Games. Our main concerns at this stage are
not directly team related, but more about the completion of the physical infrastructure and the organisation of the Games. However, ‘he who adapts best, will do best’. We can do little about Delhi’s preparations. It is important that we and our athletes retain our focus, and look at what we can control, rather than worrying about what we can’t.
Like every Games there are no medal guarantees. Despite reports to the contrary, there will be many current world and Olympic medallists present including from Scotland and I am sure that India will be both generous hosts and formidable opponents, along with our traditional rivals. We have set a medal target of between 18-25 medals which is less than Melbourne, but in India we face different conditions which are very new to many of our athletes. Our earlier predictions were higher, but we have lost a number of key athletes with high medal prospects due to schedule clashes and or injury, such as Sir Chris Hoy and gymnast Daniel Keatings. However thanks to the rigorous selection standards we have realistic medal prospects across the team and now is definitely a time for new heroes to emerge prior to Glasgow 2014. With a positive mindset and the experienced support of our team staff, I know Team Scotland has the ability to do well and I am proud to be leading them in Delhi.
Jon Doig, Chef de Mission, Team Scotland

On behalf of sportscotland I would like to congratulate each of the athletes selected to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. sportscotland is committed to the continual investment in the development of high performance sport and we are proud to provide support and expertise to sports and athletes through our institute network.
Louise Martin CBE, Chair of sportscotland
Representing Team Scotland, wearing the team colours and competing under the Saltire is I’m sure one of the proudest moments of each of your careers. On behalf of Team Scotland partners, Clydesdale Bank, I wish you every success in the challenges that lie in ahead in Delhi.
Steve Reid, Retail Director, Clydesdale Bank
We are proud and excited once again to be the Team Scotland’s official travel partner and look forward to sending them on their way to Delhi in style. The opportunity to demonstrate our support for the best in Scottish sport is a real thrill for everyone at Emirates - we’ll be doing everything we can to ensure that the team benefits from our expertise in helping long-haul passengers arrive at their destinations in the greatest possible comfort.
Denise Holmes, Emirates Sales Manager Scotland
It is a privilege to be involved with CGS; not only in their preparation for success in the Games in Delhi, but also in how they can use that experience to inspire future generations. We wish Team Scotland the very best of luck at the Games.

The arrival of Team Scotland into the stadium at the Opening Ceremony is one of the most eagerly awaited moments at each Games. Amidst the colour and spectacle of the Delhi Ceremony we are sure that Team Scotland will stand out in our exclusive Commonwealth Games tartan kilts supplied by Kinloch Anderson and shirts produced by Alloa company D&M Fashions. What will they look like – you’ll have to wait and see!
World leading sportswear manufacturer Adidas is producing our team leisure clothing based around the CGS Games thistle design and the colour of the saltire. Using the latest performance fabrics we are confident that the team will both look and feel the part.
Kitting out with prideParade, leisure and competition clothing all have a significant impact on how individual athletes feel about their team and how they perform. The team kit is one of the most visible statements of the pride each team member feels about their country.
Each sport has specific performance and design needs for their completion clothing. Using preferred suppliers from each sport we have produced competition clothing that will perform in the climate of Delhi and catch the eye.
We are grateful to the following suppliers for working with us: Canterbury International (Rugby 7s), Edinkillie (Shooting), Endura (Cycling), Speedo (Aquatics), Kukri (Athletics, Archery, Hockey, Shooting, Squash), Milano (Gymnastics), Specialist Sports Shoes (Wrestling and Weightlifting), Taylor Bowls (Lawn Bowls), Tees Sport (Table Tennis), Torra Scotia Sports (Boxing), Yonex (Badminton).

The challenge of a large squad in a warm climate coupled with hygiene and health issues to consider has been the main focus of the medical team. Our team of six doctors and 10 physiotherapists have been preparing for the Games since Melbourne in 2006, building on more recent experiences in India at the Pune Youth Commonwealth Games in 2008.
The medical team have numerous multi-sport Games and single sport championship experiences. Their close links with the sportscotland institute of sport have ensured our athletes have been well supported in the build up to the Games, including the development of heat and humidity strategies with scientific experts. The medical team, led by Niall Elliott, Head of Medical Services, and Lindsay Thomson, Deputy Head of Medical Services /Head of Physiotherapy with input from CGS Medical
