AUGUSTANA CAMPUS

Project-based CoreA new core curriculum with a focus on project-based learning will give students the opportunity to tackle real-world issues. They will be encouraged to think creatively in a variety of backgrounds and to collaborate across a spectrum of disciplines, and with the community.

Multidisciplinary ConcentrationsStudents will no longer have to stick with one major. Instead, they will be able to study various topics across disciplines, in a way that caters to their unique interests, and coincides with their career aspirations. aug.ualberta.ca/innovations

RENOVATIONS TO CLASSIC LISTER

Over the next three years, extensive renovations will be undertaken to fully refresh suites, student lounges, washrooms, and other amenity spaces in all three towers.

ADMISSIONS 101We believe applying to school should be easy — so let’s break it down.

STEP 3 ACCEPTING THE OFFER

After applying, students will have access to the UAlberta Launchpad portal to check application status and will also receive a UAlberta email account. Students should check this account for notifications.

Students need to accept their offer and pay a $500 tuition deposit by the deadline stated in their UAlberta Launchpad portal in order to register in courses. uab.ca/accept

STEP 4 REGISTRATION

Registration 101Our advisors help students build their schedules and advise on which courses to take. Both in-person and online workshops are available. uab.ca/reg101

Student Loan WorkshopsOur advisors will help students navigate the student loan system. Students can apply for their Alberta Student Loan during the workshop. uab.ca/loans101

STEP 1 REQUIREMENTS

Students must meet both the minimum and competitive admission-average requirements for their program. The competitive average varies each year, based on the applicant pool. Presenting marks within the competitive range does not guarantee admission, as program space is limited. uab.ca/averages

Direct-entry programs require five core academic courses, varying by program.

STEP 2 ADMISSION

Students can apply using final Grade 11 marks and any final Grade 12 marks. They must also indicate which Grade 12 courses they plan to complete. If not eligible, students can submit new grade information for a re-evaluation after February 1.

Linear school students can submit interim Grade 12 marks if they reflect at least half of the course content, after February 1. uab.ca/apply

ADMISSION IS ROLLING

We start admitting students as early as October. Students should be encouraged to apply early, as they could be offered admission based on their final Grade 11 marks. Students can continue to submit updated final grades as available.

It can be difficult to advise on averages, but you can guide students by looking at the average range from the previous year’s applicant pool. Admitted Student Profiles can be found online. uab.ca/averages

PROGRAM TOOL

We encourage students to start with the online program tool. Students can start with a quiz to help hone in on their aptitudes and interests. Students should also check requirements and eligibility while considering, saving, and comparing program options. You can also check what programs may not be direct entry from high school and what pre-professional study is required. uab.ca/programs

ADMISSIONS CONTINUEDWe said it should be easy, so we are including a few more tips.

PROGRAM PRIORITIES

Students should list a first and second priority program on their application. If they are eligible for their first-choice program, they will receive an offer for that program and will not be evaluated for their second choice. Second-choice programs will only be evaluated if they are not eligible for their first choice.

PROGRAM CHANGE FORM

Students may be able to change their program choices prior to the application deadline if they meet the program requirements for their new choices. uab.ca/aftapp

APPLY ALBERTA

Students must apply through Apply Alberta and UAlberta Launchpad (our application system). Grades must be reported directly to the U of A, as we will only pull a final transcript for Alberta students once all Grade 12 courses are complete.

PROVINCIAL EQUIVALENCIES

We take the guesswork out of finding the right courses for admission. Our program tool lists admission requirements based on the student’s home province or territory. uab.ca/programs

SELF-RECORDED GRADES

Students must provide all current grade information, including final Grade 11 and 12 marks when self-recording their grades. We will always take the highest applicable grade when assessing applications.

AP & IB STUDENTS

We recognize the achievements of AP & IB students and want them to continue their studies here. When assessing applications, we will use their AP or IB grade if it is higher than the provincial equivalent. Students can be recognized with transfer credit, advanced placement, or credit by special assessment. uab.ca/ap or uab.ca/ib

SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

Students could receive an award they didn’t even have to apply for, based on their admission average. Otherwise, they simply have to fill out one application and we assess them based on background, experiences, academics, and interests. uab.ca/awards

The University of Alberta administers more than $28 million in financial support, including major entrance scholarships.

PRIVACY POLICY

We take every step to protect students’ privacy.

Official correspondence between the university and students is privileged. The university is unable, by law, to disclose students’ personal or academic information to anyone else without the students’ prior written consent — even if the student is under 18. Students can contact us directly if they have specific questions about their application.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN CANADAAll undergraduate programs are open to international students with the exception of the Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy programs.

BRIDGING PROGRAM

The Bridging Program is designed for applicants who meet all admission requirements for their program of choice except for ELP. The Bridging Program allows eligible students to complete the ELP requirement by taking English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses during their first year of study, while also taking academic courses and earning credit toward their degree. uab.ca/bridging

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Students must possess an adequate level of English Language Proficiency (ELP) in order to be granted admission (except for French-language programs, which require FLP). If they have completed three or more years of full-time education (or equivalent) in English excluding any ESL courses in Canada, the requirement will be automatically met. Otherwise, there are several other ways to demonstrate ELP. uab.ca/languagereqs
