"This school truly offers the highest quality professors as well

as students, making our education – and our reputation – superior in this community... Working with other MFT communities in the country, it seems my coursework and my practicum experience surpass those of other programs, and I credit USD for making me a more marketable therapist and

better prepared.  And I must admit, our classroom window’s view of Mission Bay didn't hurt either!" - Natalie Smith, MFT ’09

“An important part of my experience in the program has been the emphasis on diversity. I feel con$dent in my ability to

work effectively with diverse students, parents, and staff members.  My $eldwork placed me in a culturally diverse setting where I was able to make meaningful connections and gain a better understanding of those outside of my own racial and ethnic background. “ - Haylee Sibley, Counseling ’09

International WorkAll SOLES student complete an international experience as part of their program. Opportunities for coursework abroad are available through the SOLES Global Center. This year Counseling and MFT students and faculty traveled to Austria, Italy, Ireland, Kenya and Costa Rica.www.sandiego.edu/soles/centers/global_center

Applied LearningCounseling and MFT students earn hours towards licensure or credentialing through $eldwork, practica and internships at San Diego schools, hospitals and community agencies. Placement is guided by program faculty and $eldwork coordinators.

Eligibility for AidSOLES graduate students are eligible to apply for funds from the Office of Financial Aid as long as they are:• A United States citizen or eligible non-citizen with a valid Social Security Number

• Enrolled at least half time as a regular student in an eligible degree, certi$cate or credential program. Half-time is 4.5 units for master’s

and credential students and 3 units for doctoral students.

All incoming and continuing SOLES graduate students in good standing are eligible to apply for SOLES scholarships and the SOLES Loans program, regardless of citizenship. Some scholarships require that the student be enrolled in a minimum number of units each semester.

Applying for AidThe $rst step in applying for $nancial aid is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have not yet submitted your FAFSA, we recommend that you do so as soon as possible. The FAFSA can be found online at www.fafsa.gov

Need-Based AwardsYour FAFSA will be submitted to the University of San Diego’s Office of Financial Aid. Financial aid eligibility is the difference between the total cost of attendance at USD and the amount you are expected to contribute (EFC). This total cost includes tuition, fees, room and board, an allowance for books, supplies, and other incidental expenses, and a travel allowance when warranted. The aid available to graduate students through the Office of Financial Aid consists of federal loans and the USD Graduate Grant. Please note that your initial $nancial aid award will be determined under the assumption that you will be taking a full-time course load. If you will be attending on a part-time basis you must notify the Office of Financial Aid in writing in order for your award to be adjusted accordingly. Your SOLES academic advisor can assist you in determining how many units you will be taking.

ScholarshipsYou are also encouraged to apply for scholarships, which may be based on need or merit and are awarded by entities other than the Office of Financial Aid. Scholarships are available through SOLES as well as through outside sources, and amounts and deadlines to apply vary. Information on these opportunities is available on the SOLES website at: www.sandiego.edu/soles/admissions/$nancial_aid
