Could Divorce Trigger Hair Loss in Women?
There is a new big question for follicular health and it is that could divorce
trigger hair loss in women? Unlike what many think, hair loss is not exclusive to
men and a large population of women also suffers from it. The type of hair loss
is different and women generally experience thinning in the hair. Bald areas on
the head are a rare occurrence.
Researches are underway to understand the underlying causes of many health
related issues including hair loss. Recently there has been a link found between
female hair loss and divorce during a study carried out by Case Western Reserve
School of Medicine. We shall look a little deeper into the matter and see how a
divorce can cause hair loss.
The Study
The study was undertaken to see that effects of various social events and habits
that people have on hair loss. For this purpose, 98 sets of female and 90 sets of
male identical twins were observed. Genetically identical twins should have the
same number of follicles and any difference has to be caused by an external
factor. Experts compared the number of follicles in all the twins to ascertain any
differences.
It was found that women had an inclination towards hair loss as a result to a
divorce while the event had little effect on the male follicular health. Certain
other factors such as too much exposure to sun, smoking and heavy drinking
were also found to be at play in hair loss in both sexes.
Stress and Hair Loss
It has been known for a long time that stress causes hair loss. Telogen effluvium,
for example, is a condition in which temporary hair loss is observed due to
stress. It has now been established for the very first time that there is a clear link
between divorce and female hair loss.
How to Deal with It
Divorce for anyone is not an easy life event to get over. But for health in general
and follicular health in particular, such women need to take things easier in life.
Being around friends and family is imperative for emotional support and to
reduce stress. Finding healthy activities to stay fit and keeping mind away from
the unfortunate happening is also very important. Ensuring general habits that
boost good health too can help greatly.
