Crosby High,

I can’t even begin to express how excited I am to go to University of Texas at Arlington, and though I can’t say that this school has been perfect, it has taught me how to accept all sorts of people. It’s kind of funny, actually. You would think that because our school is so small, the students inside of it would be relatively similar. Not quite.

I’ve met all sorts of people here. The opinions circulated here are drastically different, the experiences that every individual went through in their own way their own, and this has helped me to see another person’s perspective with a little more clarity.

I’m going to miss Class of 2011, and I can’t deny that I’m curious what path everyone will take. My friends and I have already decided to try to stay in touch through letters. We’re pretty old school, but it is undeniably fun. As for where I’m going, I plan to get a doctorate in Neuropsychology. I’d like to travel to New Zealand, as well as Europe, Iceland, and Norway, perhaps as a simple tourist. Maybe I’ll arrive as a member of the Peace Corps, anything is possible. I smile with giddiness at the thought of going sky diving. If I survive that, it’d be really fun to free fall, but I’ll take it one step at a time.

I give a special shoutout to Aaron Williams, who I’m going to undeniably miss. I love you so much, and don’t worry, we’ll keep in touch. I’ll write you letters!

To Caley and Maeson, I know you’ll take newspaper to heights never reached before. Your determination and patience is something to be admired.

To Ms. Shaddix, I’m sure you already know you’re my favorite teacher. We’ve had alot of laughs and I’ve really enjoyed 6th period throughout the years. Somehow you even managed to make Literary Criticism fun. I’ll miss you! Thank you for being an ear to listen during hard times. I really appreciate it.

My advice to underclassmen is to enjoy the ride. Freshmen year is a breeze, Sophomores get a wakeup call from the amount of work unexpectedly pressed upon them, Juniors experience the horrid reality of SATS, TAKS, and AP tests, and Seniors… Senior year can be paralleled with the feeling one gets when a roller coaster takes a 90 degree drop from the sky. Exciting, terrifying, and it goes by in what feels like a fraction of a second. Have fun with it. Try not to get too caught up in the drama of everyday life, because at the end of this ride, trust me when I say it doesn’t matter.

Signed,Danica Womack

Dear CHS,

You’ve had to deal with my awkward stages in life; my super eyeliner stage, my wannabe gothic stage, and my “had-to-be-straightened” hair stage. Through all of it I was here, unfortunately, being teased and taunted by the staff and students. Through all the stupidity of my former youth I have become a stronger person.

You’ve taught me well in the ways of politics and life, and though I’m sure it was unintentional, it was a very helpful lesson. You’ve shown me that the rules and expectations change as you age.

If I had to give any advice to the under classmen I would tell them to take advantage of any and all opportunities they possibly can. Specifically for the freshman: don’t be afraid to be yourself! You are who you are and nothing and no one can change that. For the Sophomores: You’re not an adult yet so calm down and enjoy the time you have. When life finally catches up you’re going to wish you had more time. And, finally, for the Juniors: Life’s going to crash into you soon so beware.

Special thanks to the underclassmen I’m leaving behind; Aaron Williams, Nancy Garcia, Frida Manzo, Brian Cromeans, Jordan Comeaux (even though he’s no longer here), Raymundo Mendez (My future brother-in-law), Meagan Morris, Victoria Wukasch, and Brent Matula. Without you, my senior year wouldn’t have been as awesome as it was. I’m taking a special trip from England just to visit you guys! Good Luck! You’ll need it.

Sincerely,Brandy Lozano

Dear Crosby High, Despite having our senior picnic, our senior magazine, and any remotely interesting field trips taken away from us – I actually liked being a part of Crosby High School. I’ve learned over the years that it’s not how competent the staff members are, or how boring or fun a class is that makes the school. What ultimately makes high school interesting is the students, and Crosby High School has some of the best.

I’d just like to give a shout out to the whole senior class who were so nice and so supportive and who willingly covered my butt whenever I didn’t exactly come up with five minutes of presentation material for a project. Seriously guys, class of 2011 was the best ever and, as sentimental and cheesy this sounds, I’m actually going to miss a lot of you guys. Have fun and good luck!

Signed,Ashley Feack

What’s something fun I can do after graduation that is exciting, safe, and I can win tons of cool free prizes?

Two words—Project Graduation.

On June 2, CHS will be home to Proj-ect Graduation, an adult-supervised and alcohol-free program that allows new-ly-graduated seniors to celebrate their commencement free of possible danger. One can purchase their raffle tick-ets with the cougar bucks given to them with admission or earned through their volunteer work. All seniors are guaran-teed a gift card and at least one gift. Ad-mission to project graduation is free and lasts from10:00pm to 6:00 am, but once the doors are closed at 11:45 pm they will remain locked until the event has ended. And best of all…SENIORS ONLY!

Glitch cuts mission shortAaron WilliamsReporter

NASA’s mission on the Endeavor was cut short due to a glitch in sensors that detected carbon dioxide. The carbon di-oxide censor is crucial because of the im-portance that astronauts do not give out large amounts of carbon dioxide as too much could be fatal to those exposed. Endeavor, launched on Monday, May 16, was sent to the International Space Center to deliver the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer—a device used to mea-sure cosmic rays. Studying cosmic rays provides information about dark matter and antimatter that exist in the universe, potentially leading to the discovery of the origin of the universe. Repairing the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer as soon as possible could only lead to scientific dis-coveries being revealed faster. Within five hours of a six-and-a-half hour planned mission, the glitch was apparent in the spacesuit of Gregory Chamitoff, veteran, experienced dive master and instrument repair pilot. Even though levels might not have been ex-tremely high, NASA decided to call off the repair mission just in case something dire would occur. Chamitoff’s partner during the mission, Drew Feustel, asked for an extra forty-five minutes to repair the antenna on the space station. Deciding it would take too much time, controllers decided to cancel the mission for now. NASA is-sued a clean-up task and the Endeavor is expected to return within the beginning of June.

During the middle of May, the voice of Christian Radio, Harold Camping, had preached about a specific day: May 21, 2011. Camping said that on that Satur-day, God was going to establish Rapture, sending those who are worthy to Heaven and letting those who are unworthy to experience seven years of Hell. Camp-ing, a multi-millionaire who invests in the needs of dedicated Christian con-sumers, spent his savings in advertising the day of Rapture and how it’s “not too late to redeem yourselves” in the Unit-ed States and areas in the Middle East. Some people have begun to believe that they need to prepare for the end, while others began to turn towards their belief, questioning how Camping could pos-sibly know the exact moment of God’s descent. However, when the clock struck 6pm—the time Camping told the world that God will come down—nothing seemed to change. The public began to ques-tion Camping’s prediction, wondering if there will actually be Rapture anytime soon; his only comment was that we were all being judged “spiritually”, and the actual event will not happen until October 21st. Nobody so far has seemed to believe him. Some of the public who believed him have already gotten rid of a few of the necessities, such as their jobs, houses, or even their own lives. Camping is now being questioned whether or not he will remain in the position of power in the Christian community.

Movie ReviewsWater for ElephantsMaesen Ash

Page Editor Robert Pattinson has done it again with another dramatic movie that will leave you breathless. In Francis Lawrence’s film, “Water for Elephants”, Pattinson stars as Jacob, a young man who quits veterinary school after his parent’s untimely death and is left with nothing. His life changes when he runs away to the circus and becomes the care taker for the animals. Jacob’s entire goal was to be able to spend more time with the mysterious woman who is the circus’s star act. Pattinson later falls in love with Reece Witherspoon’s character, Marlena, the boss’s wife. Their love grows stronger when the circus encounters a new star, an elephant named Rosie. Trouble arises for Jacob when Marlena’s husband, August, the ring leader, grows sus-picious. This movie is filled with drama and a forbidden romance that will leave you wanting more.

She then convinces Josh to move homes, but little did she know the possession would follow her to the next house. The movie was extremely enter-taining and continu-ously sent chills up the audience’s spine. Audiences weren’t

Rachel Cessna

Copy Editor Delirium by Lauren Oliver is a sad love story with a bittersweet mes-sage about both the pain and happiness that love can bring. The story is set in a future where humans are modified to feel nothing so they won’t be debilitated by their own emotions. The reader follows the life of 17-year-old Lena Ho-loway as the day of her procedure gets closer and closer and she has to fight harder and harder for her love and for her life. Delirium is brilliant and has strong, well rounded characters, though leaves something to be desired in the story

building department. While the reader may be touched by the characters, their

forbidden love, and the decisions they are forced to make about them-selves, each other, and the world around them, the story itself could have been added to and built on. Overall though, the story was heart warming, thought-provoking, and well written. The book is the first in a trilogy; ac-cording to blogspot.com, the following books will be called Pandemonium and Requiem. Pandemo-nium is set to come out

in 2012 and Requiem has no set release date as of yet.

Insidious is a suspenseful hor-ror movie about a demonic possession of a little boy named Dalton Lambert. Dalton doesn’t know it but he is a well traveled little boy who goes from one world by day to another at night. Neither he nor his parents Renai and Josh know that Dalton’s dreams are actually a way of him traveling from one world to the next. His parents are afraid for him though once Dalton goes into a coma and won’t wake up, leaving

A warning to those of you out there who feel the need to dress up as your favorite superhero and attempt to fight real criminals in real life: Don’t do it. Seriously. Not a good idea. Go play video games, or let off some steam at the gym. Dressing up as Batman and linger-ing around your neighborhood waiting for bad stuff to happen isn’t exactly what the sophisticated among us would label “a good use of one’s time.”

One such gent learned this the hard way when he was caught “hanging from the wall of a downtown business” in Petoskey, Michigan. The 31-year-old was dressed in a really bad homemade Batman costume, and carrying with him a baton, a can of chemical spray and lead-lined gloves. Needless to say, police arrested him for trespassing and posses-sion of dangerous weapons.

Williams is supposedly a ‘comic book entusiast’ who describes himself in his MySpace page as ‘a pretty easy-go-ing guy. I like to help people when I can, especially my friends’. He was arrested earlier this year for dressing up as the Crow—another character from a graphic novel.

Nanananana BATMAN!

Originally thought to be a single species, called Ophiocordyceps unilate-ralis, the fungus is actually four distinct species—all of which can “mind control” ants—scientists announced Wednesday.

The fungus species can infect an ant, take over its brain, and then kill the insect once it moves to a location ideal for the fungi to grow and spread their spores.

Hughes and colleagues made the discovery after noticing a wide diversity of fungal growths emerging from ant vic-tims, according to the March 2 study in the journal PLoS ONE.

“It is tempting to speculate that each species of fungus has its own ant species that it is best adapted to attack,” Hughes said.

“This potentially means thou-sands of zombie fungi in tropical forests across the globe await discovery,” he said. “We need to ramp up sampling—especially given the perilous state of the environment.”

Made by the Japanese Neu-rowear, Necomimi is the product where fashion and technology meet each other. The concept idea aims to reach a form of “augmented human body” with the help of brainwaves and biosensors. And it’s only the beginning. Neurowear claims to develop other various items in the future.

But how does Necomimi work and what is it good for? The ears on the headband stand up when the wearer con-centrates or sees something interesting. And when the user relaxes, the decreasing brain activity makes the ears fall down. So by simply showing your actual mood this extraordinary clothing accessory It can boost up your social life, it can help on your dates, it can arrange a first con-tact with the boy next door.

As the Tokyo-based Neurowear claims (or to be honest: overstates a lit-tle) they created a new human’s organ, a brand new communication tool that aug-ments human’s body and ability. This cat’s ear shaped machine express your condition before you start talking.

When a new console emerges on the market, it’s not uncommon for some games to be forgotten in the flood of its initial releases. Konami’s Shadow of Destiny (known to the world outside of North America as Shadow of Memories), released in the States on March 5, 2001,

only about six months after the PlaySta-tion 2 came to American shores, is one

of many overlooked gems; however, this murder-mystery adventure game has found new life in a recent port to the PlayStation Portable.

The game revolves around pre-venting the protagonist’s death, but in Shadow of Destiny, there’s a little more sophistication to the process than the usual slaughter of monsters and self-proclaimed villains. The main character, Eike Kusch, is no sword-wielding war-rior, and it’s up to the player to foresee and take preventative action against at-tempts on his life. Naturally, this is easier said than done, and players are not ex-pected to succeed on their first try. When Eike is stabbed to death in the first few moments of the game, he awakens in a dark stone room and is greeted by Ho-munculus, a mysterious character who seems to have some personal interest in Eike’s survival. Intentions aside, he pres-ents Eike with the game’s most critical

device—the time-traveling digipad. Us-ing this, Eike is able to return to times prior to his demise and manipulate cir-cumstances to his advantage for when the fated moment re-emerges.

But as Homunculus is quick to point out, simply avoiding death is not enough; Eike’s true goal must be to un-cover the perpetrator of these attempted murders. As a result, his time travels span more than just the immediate moments

prior to his death. The mystery surround-ing these crimes is a full-blown web spanning centuries of the town’s history, and Eike’s journey takes place on four time planes: 2001, 1980, 1902, and 1580.

Soon, a murdery mys-tery transforms into a story of self-discovery and the interwoven tales of generations of the town’s inhabitants.

Overall, Shad-ow of Destiny was well received. While criti-cized for its lack of traditional action, the game was praised for

its excellent plot and voice-acting. How-ever, ratings for the new PSP port of the game have tended to be lower. If a PS2 or PC version is reasonable available, going with the original may be the better choice.

A Hartford teacher accused of forcing students to clean the classroom toilet with paper towels and a cleaner with bleach is on administrative leave.

For two years, Catherine Saur required any student who used the bath-room to clean the toilets, even if they only went to the bathroom to wash their hands, the Hartford Courant reports.

Jane Russell complained when her son had an allergic reaction to the cleaner and told her what his Kennelly School art teacher was requiring student to do in the bathroom of a portable class-room, the newspaper reports.

Principal Peter Dart sent a letter to parents on Monday that said the teach-er had been requiring students to clean the bathroom for the past two years. He said he did not endorse or know about the practice before May 17, when it was re-ported to authorities.

Saur, reached by telephone at her home Tuesday morning, declined to comment.

Embarrassing Moments

When I was about thirteen years old, I had my new boyfriend come over. We were playing outside and I ex-plained to him that I could talk to birds. Suddenly, I noticed a baby bird on the grass in the backyard of my neighbor’s house. I climbed on the fence and began to chirp. The baby bird hopped away but I proceeded to call to it and out of no-where, the momma bird appeared. It flew violently at my head and once landed, it began flapping its wings. I ran inside screaming, with tears streaming down my face and while he laughed, I ran to my room. Great first visit to my house.

-Thirteen and having guys over? First off, bad start. Back to the point though, if the baby bird was hopping away from you, leave it alone. It obviously doesn’t want you. Your unnecessary determina-tion led to your embarrassment.

When I was fifteen, my parents decided to take me to Sea World. I had felt a little odd, but I ignored it. My stom-ach began to hurt and a booming head-ache came out of nowhere! Later, I went swimming and rode rides when, the un-thinkable happened. I got on the tallest slide, my parents got everyone’s atten-tion by yelling happy birthday and as I

slid, a long strip of red was left behind me. It was my fifteenth birthday, and I was on my period.

-The warning signs for your period should be obvious. You’re fifteen; grow up. You should know when it’s coming. Honestly, I feel sorry for you but you sort of walked right into that one… or slid into it.

This year I was taking my TAKS test. I was really nervous so I seriously took my time. After lunch, I went back to work, more focused than ever. I was the last one taking the TAKS and felt awk-ward. Everyone looked angry and impa-tient. Normally, I wouldn’t have cared but my crush was one of them, sitting behind me. After the test, I felt relieved. I put my head down and fell asleep. Soon after, I was awakened by the classes’ laughter. Suddenly I smelt a horrible odor. And it was coming from me. My crush stared at me in disgust.

-Honestly, that’s just horrible. That’s a truly embarrassing moment. There’s not much I can say except, poor guy. Thing about it this way, now you have some-thing to laugh about!

There is this guy I like and he told every-body that I’m a loser. I’ve had a crush on him forever. We dated once before but it was a long time ago, and he still denies it. I care about him, I’m not stalking him. How do I make him see that?

-If this guy is being that rude, drop him. Leave him alone. He’s rude and no good anyway. If you can’t find someone who cares about you, start looking for someone who does. You deserve better I’m sure.

My mom recently walked in on me wearing my sister’s underwear. I’m a guy. It was only out of cu-riosity, I was just wondering if they were comfortable. Now she wants to send me to counsel-ing, and doesn’t believe I was just curi-ous. She thinks its an everyday obsessive thing. How do I stop this misunderstood problem?

-Well, that is embarrassing but explain to your mom what you just explained to me. If she still doesn’t get it, I’m sorry but you pretty much have to endure what your mom decides to put you though. I hope it work out!

So I was d a t i n g this guy for a year and we p l a n n e d to go to prom to-gether. I b o u g h t

my dress, mask, purse, accessories, limo and even the ticket, but last Fri-day night… he dumped me. What do I do now? I’m a senior, should I go with someone else even though I miss my ex

or return everything? Ex-cept the dress, it cannot be returned.

-I would still go. Bring a friend and have fun,

you’re a senior! Senior prom is a one time chance. Go and be proud. Hold your head up and take your best friend! Move on for the night, once your home, it will all be just a memory.

Sport: BaseballQ: What did you do to prepare yourself for each baseball game?

A: I listen to my favorite songs, stretch my arms, and clear my head and just think about the game I am about to play.

Sport: Football Q: If you could, what would you change about this football season?

A: I wish we wouldn’t have look passed goose creek because I think we were thinking about Dayton a week ahead. I think we should have stayed focused on goose creek and taken it 1 game at a time.

Sport: FootballQ: Do you plan on carrying this sport to college?

A: No, I lost interest in the game. I got 2 scholarships from junior colleges asking for me to walk on but if there is no love for the game, why waste anybodies time?

Sport: FootballQ: What did you do to prepare yourself for the games each Friday night?

A: After the pre-game dinners I would sit in the locker room listening to my music and going over my jobs in my head.

Sport: SoccerQ: Is there any college you wanted or planned on attending?

A: I plan on attending Bacone College on soccer scholarships and I am ma-joring in Medical Imaging.

Staci LucianiSport: SoftballQ: Have you gotten any scholarships? If so, where to?
