RA Spotlight: Omar Ali

Q: Name:

A: “Omar Ali.”

Q: Hometown and High School:

A: “Hometown is Spring, Tx and I went to Spring High School. But I’m originally Canadian born

and Pakistani raised...which really just means I love all kinds of different and delicious foods!”

Q: Major:

A: “I’m a junior studying biochemistry.”

Q:Floor/Room:

A: “ I’m in room 1034, first floor. Drop by and say hello!”

Q: What do you most like about being an RA?

A: “I love getting to interact with all the people of CP. It really makes my day when I can talk to

someone and help them through a tough day/week/moment. I also love listening to people’s stories

and backgrounds, and how they ended up at UH!”

Q: What do you hope to do after college?

A:“After College I want to take some time off to travel the world, learn a new language, get a

deeper understanding of my religion, and really fulfill a lot of personal dreams before heading off

to medical school. Ultimately, I’m interested in a career in medical policy and global health.”

Q: Why is Cougar Place the best place to live on campus?

A: “Cougar Place isn’t just a Res Hall, Cougar Place is home. I think that’s what makes CP hands

down the best place to live on campus. It starts with the staff and extends to all the residents,

everyone is at home when they’re at CP and they’re surrounded by family. We have the newest

pad. we’re right next to the Woods, and the stadium is in our backyard; It really is Cougar Palace.”

Q: What is something your residents may not know about you?

A: “I love tennis, watching it, talking about it, and playing it! I can also wiggle my ears, which is

pretty cool!

Name: Bryce Dodds

Year: Sophomore

From: Katy, TX

Major: Print Journalism

Bryce Dodds, an active member of UH’s own sports broadcasting program In The Game, talks with us about his

recent album Up North, released under the moniker Forester..

What is your favorite part about recording your EP?

My favorite part would probably have to be recording with one of my friends, Jon Januhowski. He plays in a band form here in Houston, Crimson Arrow. He's a great guy and worked with me to get the EP done and it was just a fantastic time.

What song on your EP holds the most value to you?

Probably Gruene, Tx. That was a song I wrote that has a pretty direct correlation to me. Gruene is a place where my family as a whole goes every year to spend some time. It's an awesome time of relaxing and really getting away from all the stress of work and school here in Houston, and to get out into a whole different world.

What are your plans for Forester looking into the future?

I’m hoping over this next summer to record a full-length album with a full band. I've gotten to know the guys from an Indie-Rock band based in Austin, called Quiet Company, and they are some great guys and write some awesome music, and I might have the chance to record at their studio. That's a possibility I am really excited about. Besides that, just playing a bunch of shows here in Houston with some of my friend’s bands and writing a ton more music!
