• Rational addiction is the hypothesis that addictions (to heroin, tobacco, television, etc.) can be usefully modeled as specific kinds of rational, forward-looking, optimal consumption plans.

• The canonical theory tried to reconcile addictions with the standard rational choice framework of modern economics. Though controversial, the theoretical approach has become the standard approach to understanding addiction in economics, and a variety of extensions and modifications have been developed and published by other authors over the years.

• One half of the pair who formulated this theory is Kevin Murphy. The other went on to win the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1992.

• In the early 1900s while India was still under the British rule, one of the strongest manifestations of mass awakening was the desire to patronize all that was 'Swadeshi' (Made in India).

• What was thus established by country's patriarch and freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak became one of the oldest and best-known listed retail companies.

• It was inaugurated by the country's 'Grand Old Man,' Dr Dadabhai Naroji on December 17, 1906. The store was then located at the present Times of India Building, on D.N. Road, Mumbai.

• The story goes something like this. The legendary writer Anthony Burgess named his first novel __________________ (the first part of the Malayan trilogy The Long Day Wanes) after the advertising slogan of this very famous beer.

• The beer was popular in the Malaya of the 1950s, where Burgess was working. Burgess reveals in his autobiography that, when his book was published, he asked the manufacturer, then Fraser and Neave, for a complimentary clock with the beer's slogan. The brewery declined to offer this or any other freebie. But fourteen years later, when Burgess was better known, it relented. In 1970 it told Burgess he could consume any of their beers free of charge while in Singapore, with their compliments. “But it was too late.” Burgess wrote, “I had become wholly a gin man.”

• Identify the slogan/book.
