IntroductionDNA Genotek was incorporated in 1998. During the first several years, the company concentrated its efforts on research and development. With the launch of its flagship product Oragene® in 2004, the company revolutionized the DNA sample collection market. Through innovative research and development, the company discovered a powerful chemistry that could stabilize DNA from saliva. For the first time, the industry would have a mechanism to collect large amounts of high quality DNA through non-invasive sampling. DNA Genotek expanded on the strength of this chemistry innovation to develop easy-to-use physical devices. The powerful combination of a robust chemistry with an easy-to-use physical device enabled customers to collect and stabilize a high quality DNA sample in an easy, non-invasive and cost effective way.

DNA Genotek has taken the strong position it holds in the human saliva-based DNA collection market and diversified its strength in chemistry and physical design innovation to launch products to collect and stabilize samples for new applications including microbiology and animals. Based on feedback from customers, the company also launched its own GenoFIND™ Genomic Services offering in 2012 to provide superior support, analysis and reporting. The services include extraction, genotyping and sequencing. The company continues to innovate by providing new sample and stabilization products for other sample types including blood.

Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, DNA Genotek was acquired by OraSure Technologies, Inc. in 2011 and today operates as a subsidiary of OraSure.
