Design DevelopmentAPG International offers its clients the benefit of its experience in a design assist fashion; In Design-Assist, APG International becomes involved very early in the design process, providing design input, value engineering and field detailing services in order to accelerate the delivery and installation of the glass wall for an on-time completion of the project. We work with design professionals to generate and to evaluate engineering ideas for the client.

Our engineering team will review the design to ensure that it adheres to good design practice, applicable codes, and all special requirements of the Client. Our engineering team ensures that preliminary load assumptions and calculations are correct prior to final review by the consulting engineers. This process allows for smoother interactive communication for design alternatives with the benefit of offering the client multiple engineering viewpoints in a time saving and cost efficient manner.

Specific Design-Assist services and deliverables include: Design document review, development of value engineering recommendations, attendance at design development meetings, development of approval drawings and details, development and processing of performance mock-ups and structural engineering calculations to verify the system materials and connections.

Manufacturing and FabricationThe combined manufacturing capacity of APG International is one of the largest of any curtain wall fabricator in the United States. Our 150,000 sf facility, based in Glassboro, New Jersey, USA is capable of producing more than 3,000,000 square feet of unitized curtain wall material per year.

Cost Effective Pricing: Because of our “partnering” model with international unions and world renowned vendors, and together with vertical integration of various manufacturing tasks, APG International is able to minimize its overhead, resulting in an extremely competitive pricing of our projects.

Logistics & InstallationBe it new construction or renovation, APG International will provide the highest quality level of aluminum and glass curtain walls, entrances and storefronts, strip, punched, and operable windows, all-glass doors, tenant interiors and more. CUSTOM CURTAIN WALL APG International’s Core Business Strategy is to provide Customized Curtain Wall products.

Unitized CurtainwallsFor larger projects, a Unitized Fabrication approach might apply where 1 or 2 Storey tall units are pre-manufactured in the workshop and delivered to the jobsite essentially completely fabricated.

This has the following great advantages:

• Rapid installation times

• Improved quality control from preassembly of parts at the shop

• Weather independency

• Better control of logistics, schedules and jobsite deliveries

At the shop, and under protection from inclement weather concerns, frames for these Glazed Units will be fabricated and assembled in a production line sequence, and then passed to the glazing line for the glass to be inserted. Structural Glazing will be applied under controlled conditions according to manufacturer’s specifications.

For overseas work, units can either be shipped from one of our fabrication centers complete ready to install, or can be partially assembled and finished in local workshop facilities. All local work will be supervised by our trained Supervision Team.

Conventional Mullion / TransomeAPG also offers “Stick Wall” Design for smaller jobs or where a “Stick”, Mullion / Transom design is proven more appropriate. This is where the mullions, transoms and glazing installation all take place, piece-by-piece, in the field.

We can provide advice and consultation on the best and most cost effective method for either type of Custom Curtain Wall. Due to our Global presence, APG continues to remain at the technological forefront of Curtain Wall Design technology in U.S.A, Europe, and the Far East, and we continue to integrate new developments within our systems.

SPECIAL GLASS STRUCTURES

Point-Supported Glass FaçadesPoint- Supported Glass Facades are frameless structural glass applications where the glass is supported by stainless-steel based connection systems that are connected to light-weight substructures in order to provide transparent building enclosures.The point supports can be achieved by drilling holes through the glass, or capturing the glass edges using pressure-clamp devices. Glass can be monolithic or insulated. APG International is also able to integrate media capability into Point Fixed Glass Systems.

APG International provides expert design & engineering for all kinds of special glass structures such as:

Structural Glass Walls & SkylightsStructural Glass Systems use full-height or cantilevered glass fins instead of conventional metal mullions to brace the system, and transfer wind load and seismic forces. Laminated multilayer glass fins can be fabricated within a wide range of dimensions, even up to a length of 12m in one piece. This provides for greater transparency and an unobstructed view.

Different systems can be designed and supplied containing light substructures made of tension-/compression-rods forming a load-force following ‘fish-bow’, V-shaped or straight trusses.

Cable Wall SystemsCable systems are single-surface structures comprised of cables that are arrayed in either a two-way grid or stretched vertically across an opening in a manner that achieves its structural integrity to resist applied loads through the pre-tensioning of the cable elements. Clamps or nodes are attached to the stainless steel strands to support the glass. The building structure must be designed to accommodate the substantial cable wall reaction loads as well as stiffness requirements. The visual effect is dramatic & the design message is one of technological excellence & aesthetic minimalism.

Blast Resistant GlazingAPG International works with Owners, Architects and General Contractors to provide cost effective solutions to meet today’s ever increasing demands for security in building envelopes. Our expertise in the design, budgeting, procurement and delivery stages of the project can assist your team in all phases of the construction process.

APG International can develop the appropriate blast mitigating glazing solution to meet the most demanding applications.

Free-Form StructuresAPG International specialises in 3 dimensional free-form structure design, fabrication and installation. Any kind of regular and irregular shape of a structure made of different cladding materials can be applied. Super thin sub-structures made of rods, cables or in-plane strengthened glass panels form the substructure envelope connected via nodes, clamps or profiles.

These free-form structures fulfil the modern style of architecture and can be applied to large skylights, domes, façades and interior decorative features.

ANIMATED ARCHITECTURE

Trends in media and façade design have developed a new branch of façade engineering called Animated Architecture, or Media Façade. Building exteriors provide expression to their surroundings, and are focal points for our everyday life, but can now come to life using creative lighting and LED technology.

APG International is at the forefront of technology in this field and we have many options to integrate media, and animation into the façade. Our award winning designers are able to provide spectacular design options to suit all constraints, and we have teamed up with leading LED system specialist suppliers to help integrate these systems into the building skin.

Façade Animation can be grouped into the following:

Projected Animation - a high resolution, high powered projector or “beamer”, is placed behind the façade. Glass is treated with a reflective foil to project the image through the glass.

Side Lit Animation - light is projected into the edge of the glass panel. The glass is printed with reflective screen print resulting in a “glow” effect.

LED Mesh Animation - LED points are positioned inside, or close to the glass in a grid, and can be individually controlled. The overall effect is an animation of the complete wall.

Hybrid Animation - this is where a combination of the above methods are used.

INTERIORSWith our experience in all fields of cladding technology, APG International has executed many interior work projects. This specialty field of work ranges from Glass Partitions, Elevators Facades, to complex Glass Sculptures with custom design. We can combine our expertise in animated glass, and custom glass structures to offer a complete range of internal glass solutions.

Environmental issues are at the forefront of APG International’s method of operations and strategy. We understand the responsibility placed upon us to look at the environmental effects and the part they play in Façade Design.

APG International is a front runner in this field and we integrate new developments into our façade systems.

Low Energy Glass - Triple glazing, and high performance solar glass products.

Electrochromic Glass Products - intelligent glass which is able to actively change color upon the push of a button.

BIPV - Building Integrated Photovolatics attached onto, laminated into glass, or integrated into skylights or roofs for generation of energy from sunlight.

High Performance Curtain Wall Framing - Low Energy Thermally Broken Systems.

Shading - Operable, Louvre systems to control shading and lighting.

We are proud to have achieved Platinum LEED ratings on executed projects, and we have trained LEED representatives able to offer advice and assistance on energy related issues.

All façade construction requires operable openings of some kind, be they windows, doors, vents, or louvers.
