Romania Facts
Host Organization
• Tutova Hospital which supports a Pediatric Recovery Clinic caring for underweight, disabled and abandoned babies.
• Local Barlad High School and Middle School.
• Invited Global Volunteers in 1999.
Volunteer Work Projects
Clinic volunteers work with almost 30 children stimulating them, helping them to achieve new motor, cognitive and social skills. Most of all they give them the love they need so much to grow.
School volunteers teach English with the help of the Romanian English teachers. This is a summer project only.

Accommodations
Pensiunea Raluca, a comfortable hotel with double occupancy rooms located in the Tutova community.
Internet connection available, telephone in each room, individual bathrooms with showers, and air conditioning.
Restaurant at the hotel where we have our meetings and most of our meals.

• Meals are hearty, but not always very varied. • Breakfast typically includes coffee, eggs, ham,
bread, dry cereal, yogurt, and on occasion, some fruit.
• Lunch and dinner consists mostly of soups, pork, beef, chicken, or fish and potatoes.
• All your meals will be share with the team in area restaurants or at the hotel.
Meals
• You will be met and picked up at the airport. Team members will travel to Barlad by train.
• You will walk or be transported to the work project by van.

• Transylvania - at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains you can see the cities of Brasov and Sinaia. Near these cities you can also hike the towering slopes of the Prahova Valley and visit the legendary Castle Bran (known as Dracula’s Castle).
• Northern Moldavia (southern Bucovina), you can visit the spectacular "Painted Monasteries."
• Locally, you can shop in nearby towns or hike the countryside. You can also attend a football (soccer) game, as this is the most popular spectator sport in Romania.
Free Time
• Temperate climate with four distinct seasons
• Summers are hot from July to August
• Winters are very cold between December and March, with snow falling throughout most of the country
