Copying & Pasting Text in FAWeb7

Tech Support has identified a workflow issue in FAWeb7.

The following presentation demonstrates the issue, it’s cause and how to avoid it in the grading process.

Here is a sample FAWeb7 Gradebook Entry

Clicking Here will enable the “Comments” tab.

Clicking the “Comments” button will open a comment entry and editing window.

Very Important: Notice how FAWeb7 opens a new Firefox window for the comment entry and editing box.

When editing comments in Word it’s important to remember to return to your comment window in FAWeb7, not the main FAWeb7 window.

Because if you “Copy” your Comment…

…and select the “Faculty Access for the Web” main window…

…instead of the comment window…

…you will return to where you started and most of the buttons on the page will –NOT- function.

Additionally…

…clicking the “Comments” button a second time…

…will open up a second comment window for the selected student.

Anything in the original comment window will appear to have been “lost”. However…

If you select the original comments windows

You’ll return to your original comment editing window.

And you’ll be able to successfully paste your comment.

In review:

• At any time, clicking “Comments” opens a new “comment” editing window in Firefox

• Returning to FAWeb7’s main window while a “comment” window is open makes FAWeb7 seem unresponsive

• Clicking “Comments” while a comment window is already open will open another comment window, overwriting the contents of the original comment window

• Clicking the appropriate comment window will allow you to paste your comment or edit your existing comments.

Best Practices• When going between Word and FAWeb7 make sure you

always return to the comment window if you’ve opened a comment.

• If FAWeb7 seems unresponsive check to make sure it’s not expecting you to be using an open comment window instead

• Never open more than one comment window at a time, doing so will hide your previous comment window and a new, blank comment window will appear (i.e. the work appears “lost”)

• If you “lose” your comment, check the taskbar to make sure you’ve not opened an additional blank comment window
