Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)

Certificate Program

This Program includes theory instruction, skills practice and supervised field and clinical time in selected pre-hospital sites. Upon successful completion of the Program (student must maintain an 80% average throughout the Program), the student is eligible to take the NREMT-Basic exam and apply to the local EMS Authority. County-issued certification as an EMT (Basic) is valid for 2 years.

• Must be 18 years old on first day of class

• Must be able to lift 100 pounds

• 6.5 units (72 hours classroom, 91 hours lab, 44 hours field/clinical)

• 15 seats

• 16 week Program

Certificate Program

This Program includes basic nursing principles used in the care of clients inlong-term care facilities. Successful completion of the Program results ineligibility to take the State certification exam consisting of a written exam andpracticum.

• Must be 16 years old on first day of class (concurrent enrollment in high school allowed)

• 6 units (72 hours classroom, 108 hours clinical)

• 15 seats

• 12 week Program

provide preparation for care of residents in home care settings.

Student Release of Information

Hepatitis B Vaccine form

Background check and drug screen through Englander Investigations NOTE: Students should be aware that the results of the background check and/or drug screen may have an impact on academic program eligibility or clinical/community site placement. Tuberculosis Screening

All students participating in programs must submit results of a 2-step PPD (Tuberculosis) screening

Day 1: The medical provider places serum under the student’s skin on the left or rightforearm and documents the date, the location of the placement of the serum, and signsto confirm the information.

Day 3 or 4: Two to three days later, the student returns for a reading. The medical providerdocuments the date of the reading, the reaction or lack of reaction, and signs toconfirm the information.

So long as there is no reaction to the serum (a negative reading), the student repeats theprocess one to three weeks later. If the PPD reading is positive, the student must undergoa chest x-ray. So long as the chest x-ray is negative/normal with no active disease, thescreening requirement has been met. The student must submit a copy of the radiologyreport with the medical form documenting the positive reading.

Immunity & Vaccination

• All students participating in programs must have a current Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheriaand Pertussis). This vaccination is good for ten years, students who do not havedocumentation of receiving a vaccination with all three components must get a booster.Students may have the medical provider document the booster on the medical form orprovide a medication receipt from a provider such as a pharmacy or urgent care facility.

• All students must have a blood draw and submit a laboratory report documenting titersfor:

If the student is not immune to any or all of the listed diseases, the student must provide documentation of vaccination as required on the pre-entrance medical form.

Hepatitis B Vaccine FormThe student must read the Hepatitis B Vaccine Questions and Answers and check thebox indicating understanding of the risks and benefits of the Hepatitis B vaccine.

The student must check the box indicating immunity has been demonstrated by apositive titer. If the student is not immune to Hepatitis B (supported by titer results onthe laboratory report), the student receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series.

The student must complete the bottom portion of the form with contact information.

Release of Information

The student must read and complete the Release of Information Form. This signed release permits the student’s records being shared with clinical partners, if required.

Background Check and Drug Screen

CMC EMT and nursing programs require a criminal background check and drugscreen. Students should be aware that the results of the background check and/or drug screenmay have an impact on academic program eligibility or clinical/community siteplacement. Students may be denied access to any program on the basis of the results of thebackground check and/or drug screen. The College is required to comply with licensingrequirements and with the policies of our partner agencies. If you have a felony or amisdemeanor in your background, please contact the Health Sciences Department to discussthe impact on your academic and professional career.

The Health Sciences Department has retained Englander Investigations to performbackground checks and arrange for drug screens. Students must request servicesthrough Englander Investigations; no other background check or drug screen resultswill be accepted.

Students must submit the original letter from Englander Investigations with the otherrequired documents. The letter will be on letterhead with an embossed seal at thebottom and attached will be the drug screen results. We must have this letter to cleara student to register for any EMT or nursing program. There are no exceptions.
